Lois's pov
..
Something was wrong, something just didn't feel right, where had it all gone wrong... She'd been startled awake after a few minutes of managing to shut her lids, however she couldn't go back to sleep, her eyes refused to shut tight, call it a gun man's sense, call it whatever, but she knew, everything was going terribly wrong, something was happening without her knowledge, and the sense of danger did not come from her paranoia of being caught by Gordon. The man had remained a mystery even to her. She couldn't put the puzzle pieces together when it came to Gordon, he was too many things together, he was different than the others, not entirely denying the rumors of him being a much terrible monster for his ability to hold back his sickening brothers. He might be a monster as they'd claim him be, but she'd watched the man be a lover, a companion and more surprisingly a husband, he could be many things, things she was never able to figure out. A wild card. To her, that's what Gordon Darcen was. He probably wouldn't care enough to still chase after some girl he'd met on the streets of Kantama, so what if he'd gifted her the ring, she had surely paid off her debt with all the false pretense, she owed the man nothing, the twin devils were less of a wild card than their brother. She could tell those two monsters were probably causing chaos and sending search quads all over the place. But it was fine, they were going to be fine. Tomorrow, they were going to get on the ship that'd lead them out the twin devil's territories. There was nothing they could do about their escape, no one could stop them now, at least not so soon, they'd come so far. Away from that cursed place. They were going to make it. They had Allegra. Allegra... White haired Allegra... She saw it now, the smudge in the lines. The cause of her disarrayed instincts. She wasn't able to point a finger where. The danger that surrounded their supposed savior's partner. The man whose lethality had stolen most of her attention during their dinning. She had sensed that danger somewhere. It belonged to a certain group of people, a certain family. An air that only they carried. She swore she'd never sensed such danger, it's pure, lethal and real, an air passed down from generations. A special quality only belonging to them and no one else. Maybe if she hadn't met one herself, if she hadn't laid on a bed for months with one of their kind and maybe if she hadn't been tossed and burned and charred by the fires of Kantama, a fire that particular family had set, then maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't have recognized that damned ancient lethality. F*ck!F*ck!!!!!!F*cking hell! How could she be so careless, she'd let it get pass her, she realized now, the bouts of dizzy spells that threatened to drown her was not a result of their long and winding journey, they'd been f*cking drugged. Allegra was never their savior, she was the end that deliberately reached out to satisfy a means, that satisfaction wasn't theirs to enjoy she was never for their course, she never planned on helping them escape and maybe she had only reached out like she did other brides who planned to escape because f*cking hell, who would want to stay with these men! Allegra was the precaution Tony had warned her about. He'd said not just anyone could help her, she'd thought he had been referring to the lack of options and declined plea she got when she had been seeking help. She should've known there could be several other meanings to that statement, she should've known the damned con meant no one would help her. And if someone did, then whoever it was wouldn't be just anyone. She'd thought Allegra was one of the rich aristocrats who offered a hand to the desperate and drowning, slaves who managed to escape their masters, because such people could afford it and enjoyed the reverence that came with it. In a worse case scenario, she'd be an enemy of the Darcens, and actually, it would be perfect if she were the latter.
She had made a f*cked up slip. She'd been too desperate. And in the streets of Kantama, desperation was what had gotten her fellows killed. Desperation was no good companion and she'd fallen victim to it. Such a silly mistake. One that could cost their lives, or worse, should they really be turned in to the hands of those devils.
She could tell the drug wasn't to take effects immediately, they'd wanted to avoid the assured suspicion if dizzy spells took over them so quickly and maybe they had shunned the idea of administering an immediate knock out drug when they'd sensed the familiar craze that reflected in their eyes. They weren't sure what results to expect and what quantity would be just enough to doze them and not mash their brains and leave them cold and lifeless.
She still had a chance, she could still make it. Whatever dose it was, it had taken quit the time to diffuse. Her legs were a wobbling mess though. Grabbing the dagger she'd kept under her pillow, she hastily tore a gash on an expose thigh. Enough to keep her awake and not drain her to death. Within seconds she made quick work of the gash, she couldn't risk an infection now, they needed all the energy they could gather. Who knew where those vile men already sailed to. She had to find Lara. They had to leave this city. Sadly they hadn't been able to enjoy it's blinding lights and buzzing music for long, they never planned to anyway.
