I sat alone on a rock after Kate left, saying she wanted to check on Roland about something. Beside me, the ration bags doubled as a support for my leaning head, my eyes fixed on the distant ruins. Despite the busy atmosphere around me, my attention was elsewhere—caught by a strange, uncommon phenomenon unfolding before my eyes. The land surrounding the ruins was a scorching desert, yet the ancient city itself seemed to breathe with a constant flow of cool air. Even more astonishing, it was the only place within hundreds of miles where lush vegetation flourished.
"Hmmm… according to the files, this area sprouted overnight just a week ago, and the reconnaissance team only detected the presence of a minor god," I murmured, eyes scanning the view.
