Chapter 8 - Awakening [4]

My hands covered my eyes from the bright light, being exposed to darkness for what felt like years, and then suddenly seeing light was harmful to the eyes.

Slowly and slowly my eyes adjusted to the brightness. I was then able to remove my hands from my eyes.

I looked at my surroundings and saw that far away from me sat two figures next to a table. They seemed to be playing a game; it looked like chess but it was not.

On the left was a woman with snow white hair so long that it reached the floor. She wore what it seemed to be a complete white yukata robe.

Next to her chair, a white katana leaned against her wooden chair. Her skin colour was black like charcoal, from head to feet. It looked abnormal to me because no humans looked like that or any other race looked like that.

But for some reason, that color made her look even more beautiful; she looked like a goddess.

Opposite to her, her opponent was a man with long navy blue hair like the ocean tied into a ponytail, he had blue eyes that matched his hair color and his skin was just as pale as a corpse like mine. Just like the woman, he had a striking beauty. I was not gay, but the man I was seeing right in front of me looked like he had many bitches.

Suddenly, my vision shifted; the white space I was in shifted to something else.

My eyes went wide. I couldn't believe what I was watching

From the left side from where the woman sat, it was snowing, and it felt cold, and even the chair she was sitting on was frozen in ice, everything else behind her was just snow and blizzards.

On the right, from where the man sat, something like the color of space started from him and went beyond his back, stretching with no end. It looked like when starlight in space combined, forming a beige shield called Cosmic Latte. It looked beautiful, different stars shone brightly behind the man's space.

No, let me call it a domain.

It is almost as if someone cut half of the universe and put it here. I thought as I watched the beautiful domain.

Something else caught my eye as I shifted my eyes back to the man.

If I did not pay attention closely I would not see it.

On his body, faint crackles of something that looked like electricity or lightning formed every now and then. Another thing that I noticed is that their domains did not clash, they simply stopped in the middle of the board game they were playing on and never touched each other. It was as if something cut the world and divided it into two: one part was ice and the other was cosmos and surprisingly I was in the middle, where the domains had not touched.

That was when I realized that they were not humans at all.

There is no way that these beings are humans, I shook my head. I know that there are strong beings in this world with powers beyond human comprehension, but these ones in front of me are on another level. Which human has ever affected reality with their own domain? Gods maybe?

I nodded my head.

That makes much more sense, after all gods do exist in this world, they are the ones who bless us with their powers but they rarely interact with us.

However, a question bugged inside my head. If they are gods, why are they appearing in my awakening? No history in this empire, that I know of, has ever spoken of an awakening where I'd have some kind of trial or gods appearing. It was just supposed to be: get stabbed, and hope that you get blessed with something good.

Did that mean everyone who awakened went through a trial in their awakening and met the gods?

No, it would be foolish to think that way. I am the anomaly here. That was the conclusion.

A smile formed on my face. If I were indeed an anomaly, that meant that I would awaken something good.

I decided to walk towards them since they seemed not to have noticed my presence, but I doubted that they hadn't noticed me.

I walked forward, looking at both the ice domain and the cosmic domain.

It did not take long for me to stand in front of them. However, they still did not turn to me; they were still focused on the board game.

"Cough." I coughed to get their attention, but they still did not turn my way.

I coughed again, but they still did not turn; it was as if I was not even there.

"Tsk." I clicked my tongue.

Since they were not looking at me, I decided to study the board game.

As I said before from afar it looked like chess but now that I see it closely it looks completely different.

The board was the color of their domains, a mix of white and cosmic latte, so were the pieces. The pieces looked to be in animal shapes like lions, tigers, birds, horses and even a dragon on the side of the man.

From my understanding, the woman seems to be losing since she had only 6 pieces while the man had 10.

Whenever the man moved his piece and knocked one of hers, a comic- like power wrapped around her piece and devoured it, leaving nothing behind. And the more the more devoured, the more his cosmic domain spread on the board.

The game continued until the woman's side did not have any pieces left, and the board was completely in the cosmic color.

⌈I win.⌋ The man with a light smile on his face spoke with a deep cosmic like voice that sent chills all over my body.

⌈Tsk.⌋ The woman clicked her tongue, her white eyebrows twitching. ⌈You literally play this game for eons, how could you not win?⌋

⌈You are just a sore loser.⌋ The man said with a shake of his head. ⌈Now hand over the authority, that was part of the deal.⌋

The woman with a frown on her face leaned back on her chair with her hands crossed over her chest. ⌈There is literally no one who has ever succeeded the trial, why should I hand over the authority? It's pointless.⌋

⌈You are right—⌋

The man did not finish his sentence when his eyes and the woman's suddenly snapped towards the side, looking at me.

I looked at his eyes and her, they were no longer blue, no, they were never where to begin with, the colors kept shifting just like the color of the cosmos. Their stare froze me in place. I could not move; it was as if invisible chains were tied around me. Not only that, but I also felt naked in their eyes, as if they were studying my soul.

W-what the hell?! What kind of power is this?

It was too strong, I couldn't get free. Sweat ran down my back, and a fear suddenly bloomed in my heart. A fear of them killing me.

⌈We were so focused on the game that even notice there was someone next to us.⌋ The woman said as she scanned my body up and down, and for some reason, I felt harassed at the way she was looking at me.

⌈Indeed. How did you get here?⌋ The man asked me.

I tried to speak, but my mouth was kept shut; I could even move my lips in their presence.

Noticing that I was not able to speak, they both stopped whatever power they were using on me.

⌈Sorry there, we've been here for so long that we kept our divine powers constantly on.⌋ The man spoke as both the ice domain and the cosmic domain faded inside their bodies, and the room became white again.

⌈And good thing you didn't step on any of them or else you would've died.⌋ The woman said.

Damn, that's dangerous as fuck. I thought. And he just mentioned divine powers; they are really gods.

After their domains were completely gone, I was finally able to move again. I fell on my knees, breathing heavily.

⌈Goodness, where are my manners?⌋ The man snapped his fingers, and a wooden chair appeared under me and then an invisible force pushed me to sit.

⌈Now…how did you get here, human?⌋ The woman asked this time.

"Through that door." I pointed back to the white door behind.

⌈Did this kid actually pass the test?⌋ The man said in disbelief at my achievement. ⌈Why am I even asking? We can check it if he really did it or not.⌋

The man's eyes suddenly shifted again; this time, they were black in color.

⌈He really did pass the test.⌋ The man said.

⌈If you had looked back even once, you'd have been consumed by the void creatures.⌋ The woman said.

Void creatures? Like eldritch beings of chaos and horror? I felt shivers running down my spine. Fucking hell.

⌈I praise you for not succumbing to the voices of those fucking void luggers.⌋ The man praised me.

"Void lugger?" I asked,

⌈You know that's kind of a racial slur?⌋ The woman said to the man.

⌈Is it racist if I hate my own kin?⌋ The man asked with his eyebrow raised.

⌈You have a point, but you literally created that slur.⌋ The woman retorted.

⌈Yeah, yeah, whatever.⌋

Damn, a racist god and even towards his own people, that's crazy.

"Do those things look like you, sir?" I asked. I was debating whether to call him sir or lord since he was a god, so I chose sir.

⌈Hell no, I don't look like those void lugg—⌋

The woman gave him a look that stopped him from finishing the words. ⌈No, and trust me, you don't wanna see what they really look like, and if you did see them, your soul would perish from existence.⌋ The man said with a serious face.

"I see…"

Damn, as expected from eldritch beings, they are scary as fuck. This just shows that there are beings too powerful that even looking at them would kill you instantly. I wonder if I can one day be that strong.

Turning to them, I asked, "So who are you guys and what is this test I have just passed, madam and sir?" I tried to be as respectful as possible; I did not want to anger a god.

⌈We? Well, we are the creators of this place. We created this place in order to find a suitable soul to bless with our powers.⌋ The woman said. ⌈And as you heard earlier, we have never found a soul worthy of it for aeons. Many souls attempted the test, but never passed. Somehow, you, a human, passed the test. It is fascinating.]

So it was really a test, and will I be blessed with their powers? That's crazy because cosmic power and ice power are powerful abilities.

⌈I am the Goddess of Finality, Finalis…⌋ The woman said.

⌈...And I am the God of Destruction, Virgil.⌋ The man finished with a smile as his cosmic-like eyes glowed.
