Goddess of finality and God of destruction, those are some badass names not gonna lie. I thought.
Bowing slightly to them, I said. "Nice to meet you both, Finality goddess and Destruction god, I'm Lucas."
⌈Would you look at that, despite having cleared the trial, he still has manners.⌋ Virgil said with a smile.
⌈Indeed, after all, humans are very arrogant and proud creatures.⌋ Finalis agreed.
Well, how could I not show respect when both of you could end me whenever you wished it? I chuckled inwardly.
"Can I ask you guys a question?" I said.
⌈Sure.⌋
⌈Go ahead.⌋
"Am I really going to get both of your powers?" They said that whoever cleared the trial would be blessed by both of them, however, to me it seemed too good to be true, but even if I only got one blessing from either of them, Ice is a powerful affinity and cosmos? Hell, cosmos is one of the rarest affinities to ever exist and from the little I know there is no one who has a cosmic affinity and that would be I would be the only one.
⌈Yes and no.⌋ Finalis answered.
⌈Finalis here, lost the match that we were playing, so she has to hand me the authority.⌋ Virgil said while Finalis frowned in irritation.
"What authority?"
⌈The authority of who is the one who will bless the chosen one first.⌋
"Meaning that she would've blessed me with her ability if she had won."
I wasn't even mad because being blessed by the cosmos seemed much better than Ice because having the cosmos affinity meant that it would probably include the space affinity as well. Even time or light. Hell, that would make me so OP.
⌈Correct.⌋ Virgil nodded. ⌈But however, you can still be blessed by her later on, that's if you meet the qualifications.⌋
"What are those qualifications about?"
⌈You will know when the time comes.⌋ Virgil said with a shrug.
"Another question. Is there anyone else going through the same test as I did?"
I was not naive nor a fool. I believed that there was no actual way that I was the only one going through a similar test because the world is vast, and there are other gods.
⌈You are quite smart, aren't you?⌋ Finalis said with a raise of her left eyebrow.
⌈I like him already.⌋ Virgir said as stars moved in his cosmic eyes.
⌈Yes, you are not the only one getting a blessing personally from other gods; there are many, but most of them do not even matter. Only the ones being blessed by a strong god are important.⌋
⌈That is why you must grow strong, child, something is coming that will require for you to be at the top, so don't fall behind.⌋ Finalis finished.
I nodded in understanding. I may be a frog in a well that does not know the ocean, but I know the height of the sky. The world is vast and dangerous; there is always going to be someone stronger than me, but fuck, something is coming? Like a war of gods or something?
"May I know what is actually coming?" I asked even though I already knew what the response would be.
⌈Sorry kid, we can't tell you that, but if you grow strong enough to meet our real bodies, then we might tell you.⌋
Of course, they won't tell me, but whatever and what do they mean by 'real bodies' ?. Suddenly, I remembered something I almost forgot to ask.
"Is there perhaps a god of reincarnation or any entity that can reincarnate a soul from another world into this world?"
Since they were gods, they might be able to answer and give me clues about my reincarnation. I had a feeling that some sort of being or deity brought me here for a reason I don't know.
Frowns formed on their faces as they looked at each other.
⌈Well, I don't know why you are asking about that question, but Virgil can answer you since he is the oldest one and knows about history much better than I do.⌋ Finalis said.
Virgil then looked at me with his cosmic eyes that probably had seen more than I'd ever seen in my worthless life. ⌈There was a god of reincarnation once.⌋
"Was?"
⌈Yes, they died, or that's what it is believed. They suddenly disappeared millions of years ago without a reason. Since no other god had met them, they did not know if they really died or went into hiding for some reason after the war ⌋
"A war?" I asked.
⌈Yes, a war, but you don't need to know about that.⌋ Vergil said.
This bastard—
⌈Well that is all I know. Why did you ask?⌋
"Nothing important, I was just curious if a god could actually reincarnate someone." It was a lie, but not really a lie.
⌈Gods can do a lot of impossible things, kid.⌋ Virgil said as he leaned back. ⌈Don't rely too much on my information, after all we are just avatars of our real selves.⌋
"Is that what you meant by 'real bodies' ?" I asked in realization.
⌈Yes, did you think that you could just talk casually to a god without being sent to oblivion?⌋ Virgil said with a chuckle.
"Not really, I knew that a mortal trying to talk or see a god in person was basically suicide."
⌈At least you know that much. These avatars of ours have been here for millions of years, so they do not have the current memories of our real bodies. Only after we have blessed you will we return to our real bodies.⌋ Finalis said. [Don't think that all gods are friendly like us; most of them are not, and probably even our real selves might not be that friendly, they might kill you on the spot.⌋
"I see…" I gulped.
So that is how it is, they kind of split a part of themselves that would wait for the one who'd clear the trial, while the main body is somewhere in a place I cannot fathom.
After that, I asked a couple of questions for which I did not get the answer to, and now the moment I was waiting for arrived.
⌈Now, are you ready for your blessing?⌋ Virgil asked.
"Yes." I responded firmly.
