Chapter 58
Both Euphoria and Trent turned deathly pale. "Wait here," Euphoria hissed, and before the peacock could protest, she threw herself into the cavern.
She knew the height of the drop. Landing with a practiced roll, she scrambled to her feet only to find Hayes's golden eyes bore into her. Her gaze immediately shifted downward to his tail, which was coiled like a crushing vice around the little fox.
Hayes was squeezing tight. The fox was clearly in agony, its mouth open in a silent scream. If Euphoria hadn't arrived at that exact second, it would have been crushed to death.
Hayes shifted into his human form, though his wine-red tail remained out, still pinning the thief. He looked at Euphoria with cold, simmering anger. "Why have you come back?"
Euphoria forced herself to look away from the fox's suffering. "He's just a cub. Please, let him go."
