Chapter 57
"Thank you, Hood. I've always known you were different from those other monsters," Euphoria said softly.
Hood's body went rigid. He kept his gaze fixed on the fire, though his hand trembled slightly as he turned the rabbit on the spit. Euphoria knew he was a man of few words, so she simply smiled and sat beside him. "Let me help you with the roasting," she offered, settling in.
By the time the meat was perfectly browned, Trent and the little fox had stirred. Trent had spent the night foraging for a hoard of seeds to supplement his breakfast, while the fox scrambled over to snatch a choice cut of meat from Euphoria's hand. After a quick, quiet meal, Euphoria gathered her companions. Trent's energy was high, his wings strong enough for the journey ahead.
"Watch your back out there," Hood said, his voice level as he stood by the hollow.
