Chapter 59
Euphoria stood at the hollow's edge for a long time before Hayes finally stirred. With a lazy stretch, he stalked past her with his usual indifference, leaped to the ground, and vanished into the brush.
Euphoria climbed down shortly after, intent on finding breakfast. Having spent enough time with Trent, she could now distinguish which wild seeds were safe to eat. As she gathered them, she made a mental note to craft another bow; she couldn't rely on luck and Fire Beasts forever. She sat on a low branch to crack the seeds, but they were stubbornly hard, leaving her teeth aching and her stomach still mostly empty.
Just then, Hayes returned. He was carrying a rabbit, and to her relief, he had already killed it. He glanced into the tree hollow first, and not seeing her, his eyes swept the clearing until they found her perched on the branch.
Euphoria looked at the rabbit, then back at him. "Is that... for me?" she asked, a bit surprised.
