By the time he released the third arrow, Hayes had grasped the fundamentals, finally striking the center of the trunk.
"Ahem," Euphoria coughed lightly. she stepped over and gave his shoulder a patronizing pat. "Not bad at all. With enough practice, you might actually become decent."
She was mostly trying to needle him; his stoic aloofness was starting to get a bit dull. Because of that sudden contact, Hayes went stiff for a second. He handed the bow back to her without a word, his expression making it clear he was done talking for the day.
Euphoria pursed her lips, stowed her gear, and began prepping the evening's roast.
During dinner, the usually silent Hayes suddenly asked, "Are all other females like you?"
The question caught her off guard. In what sense? Before she could ask for clarification, he answered his own question: "I suppose they are different."
