Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13 — AFTER THE OUTCOME

Silence.

Not the quiet kind.

The kind that comes after something breaks.

The arena collapsed in fragments.

Not physically.

Conceptually.

Walls blurred.

The floor lost its edges.

Even the air felt unstable—like reality itself was unsure what it was supposed to be anymore.

Eryx stood at the center of it.

Still.

Breathing slow.

Too slow.

Jaxon's body was gone.

Not dragged.

Not taken.

Just…

Removed.

That made it worse.

"…He's really gone," Eryx said quietly.

Soren didn't respond immediately.

Because he was watching something else.

"You changed the outcome," Soren finally said.

Eryx didn't look at him.

"I didn't save him."

Soren nodded slightly.

"That's not what matters."

Eryx's jaw tightened.

"Then what does?"

Soren stepped closer.

Not threatening.

Just… observing.

"You weren't supposed to be given a choice," he said.

A pause.

"But you made one anyway."

Eryx clenched his fists.

"That choice got him killed."

Soren tilted his head.

"No."

A pause.

"The system removed him."

Eryx snapped. "Same thing!"

For the first time—

Soren shook his head.

"No," he said calmly.

"It means you're already outside the rules."

That silence hit harder than anything.

⚠️ SYSTEM INSTABILITY

The lights above flickered again.

Not red.

Not white.

Glitching between both.

The system voice returned.

But it wasn't stable anymore.

"Divergence… detected…"

"Reclassification… pending…"

Eryx looked up slowly.

"…Reclassification?"

Soren's expression darkened slightly.

"That's new."

The floor beneath them shifted.

A line formed across it.

Glowing faintly.

Separating space.

Eryx stepped back instinctively.

"What is that?"

Soren didn't answer immediately.

Then—

Quietly—

"The system is deciding what you are now."

Eryx felt something cold settle in his chest.

"I'm not something to decide."

Soren almost smiled.

"Everyone here is."

🔥 OUTSIDE — RETURN TO THE CORRIDOR

Mira didn't stop running.

Even when her lungs burned.

Even when the gun in her hand felt heavier than it should.

Ashar followed behind her—steady, controlled.

Not panicked.

Never panicked.

"You're too fast," Mira said between breaths.

Ashar shrugged slightly.

"I've been here longer."

That answer didn't comfort her.

They turned a corner.

The corridor ahead—

Shifted.

Mira stopped.

"…This wasn't here before."

Ashar looked at it once.

Then nodded.

"Yeah."

"What is it?"

He didn't hesitate.

"A correction path."

Mira's grip tightened on the gun.

"…For who?"

Ashar glanced at her.

"For whoever broke the system."

Her heart dropped.

"…Eryx."

Ashar didn't deny it.

🧠 THE NEW RULE

Inside—

Eryx stood still as the glowing line spread wider.

Forming a boundary.

Soren stepped back behind it.

Without being told.

Eryx noticed immediately.

"…You're avoiding it."

Soren nodded once.

"Because I know what happens next."

Eryx's voice hardened.

"Then say it."

Soren met his gaze.

And for the first time—

There was something close to seriousness in his eyes.

"When the system can't categorize you…"

A pause.

"It either removes you…"

The light intensified.

"…or rewrites you."

Eryx didn't move.

Didn't step back.

"Then let it try."

Soren's expression shifted slightly.

Almost impressed.

"…You're different this time," he said.

💀 WHAT WAS LOST

Eryx looked down.

At the empty space where Jaxon had fallen.

"…He knew this would happen," Eryx said quietly.

Soren didn't respond.

"…That's why he activated the hunt," Eryx continued.

Silence.

Then—

Soren nodded.

"He pushed the system," he said.

"So it would reveal you faster."

Eryx closed his eyes for a second.

"…He died for that."

Soren tilted his head slightly.

"Not died."

A pause.

"Replaced."

Eryx opened his eyes again.

Slowly.

"…Then I'll break whatever replaced him."

⚡ COLLISION

The glowing boundary surged upward.

Light filled the space.

The system voice glitched violently.

"Reclassification… failed…"

"Subject unstable…"

"Initiating—"

It cut off.

Completely.

Silence.

Soren stepped back.

"…That's not supposed to happen."

Eryx stood still.

Unaffected.

The light faded.

Slowly.

And when it disappeared—

The mark on the wall behind him changed.

Where it once read:

STATUS: ACTIVE UNIT

Now it read:

STATUS: UNKNOWN

Soren stared at it.

Longer than before.

"…You're not in the system anymore," he said.

Eryx exhaled slowly.

"…Good."

⚔️ REUNION APPROACHING

The corridor shifted again.

A path opened.

Leading directly toward him.

And from the other side—

Footsteps.

Fast.

Desperate.

Mira.

Eryx looked up.

Just as her voice echoed through the corridor:

"ERYX!"

He turned.

And for the first time since the arena—

Something inside him steadied.

But behind her—

Ashar walked into view.

Calm.

Watching.

And when his eyes met Eryx's—

He didn't look surprised.

He looked… like he had been expecting this.
