Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Starting the Speedrun

It was more than just familiar; it was like coming home.

The tunnel wasn't long. After Asa and the other two walked for a while, their field of vision suddenly widened.

The train maintenance station.

"Careful, there's danger here!"

In their line of sight, several glowing humanoid creatures were standing there—in other words, zombies.

"Stay back, Shen."

Her sense of duty as a police officer made Jill shield Asa behind her. Her eyes scanned the surroundings alertly, her tactical flashlight pausing occasionally to observe.

Hearing the noise, the zombies stumbled out from the corners. Seeing this, Barry and Jill promptly opened fire. However, just as two bullets were fired to hinder the zombies' movements, a loud gunshot echoed far through the tunnel.

The head and upper body of the zombie Jill was aiming at exploded instantly, blood and flesh splattering all over the ground.

Jill turned back blankly, only to see Asa calmly reloading after taking a shot. Then, with another shot, he blew apart the zombie on Barry's side.

Now, both of them were stunned.

Is this a revolver? Is it really not a hand cannon?

The Comrades Hammer was indeed a revolver; its loading method confirmed it was a traditional one. However, it used two types of ammunition: high-explosive and armor-piercing.

As for standard rounds? Sorry, it didn't have any.

"That gun of yours..." Barry swallowed hard, his voice full of longing. "Can I take a look at it?"

Barry was a professional weapon design master. In his mind, such a crude style couldn't possibly possess such immense power and shooting capability. Given the contradictory appearance and massive power, if the timing hadn't been wrong, Barry would have really wanted to take it apart on the spot to see if its mechanical structure was even normal.

Comrades Hammer: (✿◡‿◡).

Jill, beside him, felt the same. Her aesthetic was similar to Barry's; she also wanted a revolver that was both compact and packed such firepower.

Facing their gazes, Asa shrugged.

"Sorry, it's a lab product. Only one in existence, not for loan."

"What a pity," Jill lamented.

But Barry clearly hadn't given up.

"Have you considered mass production?"

"Mass production? Soon, soon."

Asa answer made Barry and Jill's eyes light up.

"It's already close to mass production?"

"It's close to finishing the blueprints for the factory that builds the equipment to assemble the bullets."

Jill, Barry:...

"Officers, exposing the Umbrella Corporation is a serious matter. You must save your strength. Leave the killing to me," Asa said with a righteous expression.

Asa said with a righteous face.

The two of them unanimously decided not to talk to Asa for the time being.

Next, under Asa solemn persuasion, the tasks were completely divided: the two of them were responsible for shooting to restrict the zombies' movements, while Asa was responsible for killing various monsters.

They didn't encounter the Giant Grasshoppers from the original story; perhaps they had arrived too early.

In the sewer in the middle of the tunnel, there was a small path leading directly to the Training Facility. However, the main entrance wasn't blocked, so why take the side path?

Since Asa had entered the dungeon early, the Ecliptic Express incident hadn't happened yet. The tunnel wasn't blocked by train cars, and the three of them reached the front of the Training Facility without any obstacles.

A Gothic building sat on the edge of a cliff. Its dark gray exterior walls, paired with white window frames and pillars, were both eerie and solemn.

"Training Facility?"

Jill looked at Asa, hoping this Umbrella Corporation insider could explain.

"Without a doubt, it's where one of the Umbrella Corporation's Big Three used to work."

Asa looked up at the three-story classical building with a clock tower, sighing.

"Marcus was undoubtedly a genius, but unfortunately, he had poor judgment in people. His friends betrayed him, his students backstabbed him, and in the end, it was his test subject that inherited his ideology. Don't you think it's ironic?"

"Sorry to interrupt, but who is Marcus?"

Barry raised his hand and asked.

"He was one of the Big Three of the Umbrella Corporation. He died ten years ago."

Asa said as he pushed open the main doors of the mansion.

"You'll be seeing him very soon."

Jill, Barry:...

If you have more 'auspicious' things to say, keep them coming.

The Training Facility was abandoned after Marcus's death, but not entirely. Umbrella Corporation employees would come to clean up from time to time. The place was also filled with Umbrella Corporation's cameras; the only fate for an ordinary person who wandered in here was to become a test subject.

Entering the main door, Asa gestured with his chin toward a portrait on the stairs directly ahead.

"There, that's Marcus."

So that's what he meant.

Jill suddenly realized.

The doubts brought by Asa earlier comment, "You'll be seeing him very soon," vanished. If she hadn't gained a preliminary understanding of Asa, Jill would have thought he was the mastermind behind this trip.

However, this boy wasn't bad at heart. Aside from having a bit of a wicked sense of humor, he truly counted as a good person.

Jill evaluated in her heart.

[Congratulations on establishing a bond with the important female character Jill Valentine: "Comrade-in-Arms (Favorability)." Relationship rewards are available for collection.]

Asa body jolted. Was it finally here? The progress bar!

In the system's judgment, the comrade relationship with Jill was enough to develop to [Heart-to-Heart]. To go deeper would require a different kind of relationship.

"Claim reward!"

Asa thought to himself.

[Congratulations on obtaining Jill's Samurai Edge and two hundred rounds of spare ammunition. Automatically stored in the system space.]

Not bad.

Asa didn't take out the Samurai Edge, lest Jill think he was some kind of creep.

Jill and Barry stepped forward to examine Marcus's portrait. Asa slowed his pace and stayed behind them, scanning the area. He saw a camera with a flashing red light directly above behind them.

Found you, Wesker.

Cyberoptics activated—camera fried!

Then, he took over all the cameras in the Training Facility.

While the two were examining the old man's portrait, a broadcast voice rang out.

"Silence!"

"I am Dr. Marcus!"

"Please quietly recite the company motto as follows:"

"Obedience breeds discipline,"

"Discipline breeds unity,"

"Unity breeds power,"

"Power is life!"
