Next, Jill witnessed what it truly meant for monsters to run amok.
Mutant Spiders, Mutant Grasshoppers, Mutant Bats, Mutant Centipedes—it seemed any disgusting creature could grow to a massive size here.
Have you ever seen a Mutant Spider the size of a washbasin scuttling back and forth in the corridor in front of you?
"Does the Umbrella Corporation usually experiment on these disgusting insects?"
Jill spoke with a grim expression as Asa finished off a crippled Mutant Spider, his high-explosive rounds incinerating the creature into a pile of sparks.
"This is only the beginning."
Asa shook his head; the true giant monsters and Bio-Organic Weapons hadn't even made an appearance yet.
Jill and Barry hadn't brought much ammunition, but fortunately, there were plenty of supplies in the Training Facility: high-explosive grenades, First Aid Sprays, various types of ammunition, and Herbs.
Apparently, Umbrella employees had a minor habit of being forgetful.
Even so, inside a small room, the group couldn't help but gasp upon seeing Umbrella's first bio-weapon, doing their part to contribute to global warming.
Jill's intention was to find supplies in the storage room, but two Hunters were actually hiding in the corner!
Jill had seen them in the files Asa gave her. They were Bio-Organic Weapons created by Umbrella using three-week-old human embryos and reptilian DNA bonded by the T-Virus, ready for use in just one year.
These monsters were green all over. In the dim storage room, combined with their cold-blooded reptilian genes, they left no trace in thermal imaging mode; even Asa hadn't noticed their presence.
Thus, no one expected it. Two Hunters pounced from the corner, their massive two-meter frames lunging simultaneously toward Jill, who was at the front.
Jill's reaction was remarkably fast. The moment the Hunters lunged, she fired her shotgun, forcing one Hunter to its knees.
She then followed up with a tactical roll, narrowly dodging the claws of the other Hunter.
Despite this, a large gash was torn into Jill's tactical vest.
Asa and Barry, positioned behind Jill, reacted in time. A high-explosive round and a slug turned the other Hunter into a firework, while Asa delivered the finishing blow to the one Jill had downed.
[Experience +5] * 2.
The system chimed twice with notifications of gained experience, but Asa had no heart to check them.
He hurried to Jill's side as she fell, checking her injuries.
The Hunter's claws had sliced a wound two centimeters deep and five centimeters long across Jill's taut waist, and bright red blood was gushing out.
"Jill, are you okay?"
Barry asked with concern.
"It's just a flesh wound, not a big deal."
Jill hissed through the pain, taking out the medicinal powder Asa had just given her and applying it to the wound.
After applying the powder, Jill immediately felt much better. A cool, numbing sensation spread across her waist, greatly dulling the pain.
Her iron will remained unshaken by a single injury. Jill wrapped the wound with tactical bandages and looked up to see Asa slightly solemn expression.
"Asa, what's wrong?"
Being scratched by a Hunter meant a 100% chance of T-Virus infection.
However, in the games, as long as the protagonists applied Herbs after being bitten by zombies, they would be fine; the official setting was that the main cast completed their missions without injury.
But the recently released Resident Evil 9 completely subverted this, revealing that all survivors of the Raccoon City incident were actually infected with the T-Virus, with symptoms varying based on the degree of infection.
So, was Jill infected right now?
Actually, long before Asa invited this beautiful officer to team up, he had already anticipated several emergencies.
After some thought, Asa prepared to reveal everything.
"Jill, you should know that the T-Virus is highly infectious, right?"
As soon as he spoke, Jill's face instantly turned pale.
The storage room went silent, and the atmosphere grew heavy.
After a dozen seconds, Jill stood up and said calmly,
"So, am I going to die too?"
"Jill, this..."
Barry stood by, at a loss for words.
Knowing she was about to transform into a walking corpse like the ones at the tunnel entrance, Jill felt regret, yet she could accept this outcome.
It seemed that if Asa hadn't brought them here, she wouldn't have been infected, and her life wouldn't be on a countdown.
But Jill didn't blame Asa. Even without his lead, once she knew about the atrocities committed by the Umbrella Corporation, she would never have stood idly by.
That simply wasn't her style.
It was just...
Jill sighed softly in her heart.
She had dedicated her life to her ideals and never had time to focus on her personal life.
It was somewhat regrettable.
"Kid."
Amidst the heavy atmosphere, Barry suddenly turned his attention toward Asa.
"You brought Jill here, and you're a senior employee of the Umbrella Corporation. You must have a way, right?"
Jill was like a ray of sunshine that brightened those around her. Even the mature and steady Barry viewed Jill as an excellent and close junior. Now that this junior was about to die here, how could Barry possibly accept it?
Seeing Barry about to grab Asa by the collar, Jill quickly stopped him.
"Barry, don't..."
"Wait, who said she's definitely going to die?"
Asa words left both of them stunned.
"The T-Virus vaccine is in the Arklay Laboratory in the mountains. As long as she's injected with the vaccine, Jill will be out of danger."
Asa revealed the location of the T-Virus vaccine.
There was another method he didn't mention.
Elpis.
According to the latest setting in Resident Evil 9, it could clear all infections within the Progenitor Virus system. It was stored in the Ark Underground Base beneath the Raccoon City Orphanage.
However, Asa wasn't sure if Elpis had been developed yet, so he decided not to give false hope.
"Of course, the Arklay Laboratory is still over ten kilometers away. Jill might not last that long, so I have another way."
Barry and Jill watched him intently. If there was a chance to live, who would want to die?
"However, this method involves my greatest secret. Mr. Burton, could you please step outside for a moment?"
Asa wore an apologetic expression.
Barry stared at Asa for a while. Ultimately, Jill's life was the most important thing. He snorted and walked out of the storage room, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Once the door was closed, the tension eased.
Jill leaned against the wall, her impressive curves fully on display.
"You really do have quite a few secrets."
"Can't be helped, it's a dangerous world."
As he spoke, he walked toward the Hunter's corpse.
Jill had expected to hear Asa recount some hidden history of Umbrella or mention some unknown medicine.
But Asa didn't tell a story. Instead, he crouched down and reached out toward the Hunter's corpse.
The other solution—the ability granted by the [Go With the Flow] talent—had already provided the answer.
Thinking this, Asa no longer hesitated. He took the Hunter's claw and sliced it across his own elbow.
Jill was shocked. "What are you doing? Don't do anything stupid!"
However, she was too late to stop him. The wound opened, and blood flowed out.
