Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Virus Progenitor Liquid

In Cyberoptics mode, Asa, who was constantly monitoring the various surveillance feeds, quickly spotted that pale figure.

A two-and-a-half-meter tall frame, pale flesh, and a massive bone spike on one hand—there was no doubt it was the original Tyrant model that should have been destroyed long ago: T-001.

Compared to the Hunter, the Tyrant was undoubtedly a more outstanding biological weapon. It had a higher intelligence level, could be given commands via an internal chip, and its production costs could even be compressed to a selling price of 500,000 dollars!

However, the T-001 possessed none of those advantages. As the original Tyrant model, the T-001 was an undeniable failure: neurological defects, low intelligence, skin sloughing off, and its physical weaknesses were exposed directly as if it were afraid others wouldn't notice.

Well, the last part didn't really count; after all, having weaknesses visible on the outside is the underlying code for resident evil bosses.

Marcus, the Leech Queen, had released the Tyrant for no other reason than fear that the trio's actions would sabotage his plan for revenge against the Umbrella Corporation.

Asa didn't care how Marcus sought revenge against the Umbrella Corporation—neither side was any good anyway. He was only thinking about what treasures he could acquire from the collapse of the Umbrella Corporation triggered by Marcus.

The three of them took the cable car from the rooftop clock tower directly to the chapel.

"Below the small chapel is our destination for this trip."

"Marcus's research facility. Be careful; there are still many B.O.W.s left inside."

Asa warned them. Of course, there was also quite a bit of T-Virus Progenitor Liquid inside, but there was no need to tell the other two about that.

Heading down the lift, the three of them smoothly entered the underground laboratory.

Marcus's underground lab was filled with stagnant water and cracked crevices. Currently, on the water, there were leech ovaries and some wriggling, unidentified organisms.

The leeches led by the Leech Queen were weak to light sources and high temperatures, and Asa had come prepared. He had also prepared some 'goodies' for Marcus while he was at it.

At this point, the single-shot projectile of the Comrades Hammer was a bit insufficient. Asa pulled out the kinetic shotgun he had prepared earlier—the Carnage!

With the shotgun measuring nearly 60 centimeters and using No. 4 buckshot with double pellets, using it was practically one shot, one kill.

"Where did you pull that out from?"

Jill Valentine had managed to hold it in back at the Training Facility when he pulled out serum, stone tablets, and revolvers from behind his back, but now she really couldn't hold it back anymore.

A sixty-centimeter shotgun is always tucked behind his back; as long as one isn't blind, they wouldn't miss it, right?

But why hadn't Jill seen even a shadow of the gun along the way?

With one shot, he blew a zombie researcher's entire upper body to pieces. Asa looked back to see Jill circling him and sizing him up. He chuckled and said:

"Do you like what you see? I know a hotel in the northern district. Why don't we get a room and look at it together after this is over?"

Now that her life was no longer in immediate danger, Jill reverted to her straightforward personality. Hearing Asa words, she rolled her eyes.

"I'm looking at how you hide your gun so no one finds it. Could it be your side job is being a magician?"

"No, I work part-time as childcare."

While they bantered, the bullets in the trio's hands didn't stop.

On level B1, aside from the researchers who had turned into zombies, the primate B.O.W.s Marcus used in his early experiments were also out in swarms, but they were vulnerable before the muzzle of the Carnage.

The increase in his attribute values made the macaques, which relied on agile movements for sneak attacks, instead become the slower side in close-quarters reactions.

Just then, an unusual noise came from the ventilation duct overhead, and the three immediately raised their guns in alert.

The noise grew more intense, and the distance closed from afar until it was directly above the three of them. A dense, subtle sound made it seem as if countless insects were crawling in the pipes above.

"Fire!"

Seeing this, Asa no longer hesitated. The shells from his shotgun sprayed out, punching small holes through the ventilation duct.

A sharp screech came from inside the pipe, and green juice dripped down through the small holes. The duct's mesh screen directly in front shook violently before being smashed open by a burst of immense force.

A massive, hideous centipede head emerged from the pipe, its crimson compound eyes scanning left and right.

"Are you kidding me!"

Barry sucked in a breath of cold air. If he didn't know better, he'd think Earth had returned to the Devonian period—even a centipede with a head larger than a human torso had appeared!

The centipede's head swayed left and right as its compound eyes observed, then it stared straight at Jill. With a movement of its body, a foul wind rushed straight toward her.

It had chosen the one that looked the weakest.

"Watch out, Jill!"

Barry shouted loudly, but Jill, having suddenly gained strength, was just looking for a chance to test it.

"Perfect!"

Jill drew the tactical knife from her leg. She first dodged the centipede's pounce with a side-step, then used the momentum to plunge the knife into the centipede's hard head armor, through its mouthparts, and into the ground.

A beautiful, precise strike.

Asa marveled; the combat talent of the main cast truly lived up to its reputation.

With its head pinned to the ground, the centipede was unable to move, looking like a poor, helpless little bug held down by the great hand of fate.

Since the centipede's wildly flailing body and restless little legs were too much of a Sanity-drain, Asa finished it off with a single shot.

The feeling of only having to land the finishing blow was truly great.

[Experience +15].

A pleasant notification sound rang out. After a series of battles, Asa personal level had officially broken through to Lv.2!

Asa put the one bonus attribute point directly into Constitution; at the current stage, attributes like Strength and Endurance were clearly more important.

Of course, after studying the two categories of Constitution and Spirit, Asa found it was best not to let the gap between them become too large; otherwise, it might lead to a situation where the brain could not precisely control the body.

[Experience: 0/200]

The experience required to level up to Lv.2 had doubled.

After killing the giant centipede, Jill had a rough idea of her own strength. Without relying on firearms, she could almost clear the entire underground lab with just a knife.

Of course, that was assuming Marcus didn't appear and there were no Tyrants.

At the end of the corridor was the Leech Culture Room on level B1. Only after obtaining the key item, the Stripping Agent, could they open Marcus's laboratory on level B2.

The process of defeating the Mimicry Leech Man needs no detailed description; clearly, a Mimicry Leech Man is not very beautiful.

After opening the Leech Culture Room, Asa immediately spotted the blue test tube in the culture tank at the end of the lab.

Mass-produced T-Virus Progenitor Liquid. An isolated sample of the original Progenitor Liquid of the first-generation T-Virus.

Although it did not possess the complete virus sequence and was not the source of the T-Virus sequence, it was still useful.

Asa directly put the test tube into his system space.

"Lang, look what I found!"

On the other side, by a large culture tank in the lab, Jill picked up a diary.

"Marcus's Diary."

Marcus was clearly not a normal person. He had recorded in detail the discovery of the Progenitor Virus, the birth of the T-Virus, a series of human experiments, and the conflict between him and Umbrella Director Spencer in the diary.

Between the lines, there was no lack of resentment toward Spencer, fanaticism for the prospects shown by the experiments, and a planned escape route.

Unfortunately, the end result was still being fed several pounds of heavy metal and unluckily dying of poisoning.
