Kai stood in the middle of the clearing.
His eyes glowed deep purple.
The ten Echoes and Nyxar had taken full control.
When he spoke, the voice was deep, royal, and cold.
"I am the Shadow King now."
Mira dropped her last card. It fell to the ground without exploding.
"Kai…? That is not your voice. Fight it!"
Lira's silver threads glowed bright around her hands. She looked ready to attack, but her eyes were full of pain.
"Kai, come back. You are still in there. I know it."
The new Kai smiled slowly. It was not his usual smile. It was proud and distant, like a king looking at common people.
"Worried servants? How touching."
He raised one hand. Black shadow energy flowed from his fingers. The remaining hunters who were still alive screamed as dark chains wrapped tighter around them.
"These insects dared to touch what belongs to me. They shall serve as an example."
With a small wave, the shadows crushed the hunters. Their bodies turned into black smoke and disappeared.
Mira covered her mouth. "That was too easy… and too scary."
Lira stepped forward slowly. "Kai, listen to my voice. Remember the morgue. Remember the first Echo when you sounded like a rich snob. Remember how we fought together. You are Kai Voss. Not a king."
For a second, the purple light in Kai's eyes flickered.
The real Kai's voice came out weak and mixed.
"Lira… Mira… it hurts… too many voices… the king is loud…"
Then Nyxar pushed harder. The royal voice returned, stronger.
"Enough. The boy is weak. I am stronger. With the Alpha Shadow King, we now control the darkness."
He turned and looked at the dead giant beast. With one gesture, the beast's body dissolved into pure shadow energy and flowed into Kai's chest.
Kai's body grew taller. Dark armor formed over his clothes. His hair turned darker with purple streaks.
He felt unstoppable.
Mira tried to smile, but her voice shook. "Okay… new look. Very cool. But can normal Kai come back now? I miss the funny voice mixes."
The Shadow King Kai laughed. It was a low, echoing sound.
"Funny mixes? Those were the sounds of a broken child. Now I am whole. Join me. Together we can rule the coming chaos."
Lira shook her head. Tears formed in her eyes.
"No. We will not join a god. We want our friend back."
She sent her silver threads straight at Kai, trying to wrap around him and pull the god out.
The threads touched his dark armor.
Kai waved his hand. The threads broke like thin string.
"Foolish fate girl. Your power is nothing against a king."
He stepped toward them.
Mira threw her strongest card — the one with fire and wind combined. It exploded right in front of Kai.
Smoke filled the air.
When the smoke cleared, Kai stood unharmed. The dark armor had absorbed everything.
He looked at Mira with cold eyes.
"Cute toys. But toys break."
Mira stepped back, scared for the first time. "This is bad… really bad…"
Inside Kai's mind, the real Kai was screaming and fighting.
He pushed against the ten Echoes and Nyxar with everything he had.
For one short moment, he won control.
His voice came out as the old Kai — weak but real.
"Run… both of you… I cannot hold him long… the king is too strong…"
Lira shouted, "We will not leave you!"
Mira nodded fast. "Yeah! We are a team! Fight it, Kai!"
The Shadow King took control again.
He raised both hands. Shadows rose from the ground like black snakes. They moved toward Lira and Mira.
"Serve me or be consumed."
Lira sent all her threads at once. They formed a bright silver shield around her and Mira.
The shadows crashed against the shield.
Sparks flew.
The shield held… but it was cracking.
Mira threw every card she had left. Explosions lit up the clearing, but the shadows kept coming.
Kai watched with glowing purple eyes.
A small part of him felt horror.
He was hurting his friends.
But the king voice was louder.
"They will learn. Or they will break."
The silver shield started to break.
Lira looked at Kai one last time.
"Kai… if you can hear me… come back. We need you. I need you."
Her words hit something deep inside.
The real Kai fought harder.
His eyes flickered between purple and normal.
For three seconds, he gained control again.
"RUN!" he shouted in his real voice. "I will hold him! Go to the Breaker camp! Tell them… tell them what happened to me!"
Mira had tears in her eyes. "We can't leave you like this!"
Lira grabbed Mira's hand.
"We have to. If we stay, he will hurt us… and then hate himself forever."
The shadows crashed harder.
The shield was about to break.
Kai's eyes turned purple again.
The king voice returned. "Too late for running."
But before the shadows could reach them, Lira pulled Mira and ran into the trees.
Kai did not chase.
The Shadow King smiled.
"Let them run. They will come back when they see true power."
Inside, the real Kai was crying.
He had taken the tenth Echo.
He had lost control.
And now his friends were running away from him.
Nyxar laughed softly. **"Welcome to your new life, partner. The world will fear us soon."**
Kai's body turned and walked deeper into the forest.
Dark armor shining.
Purple eyes glowing.
The old Kai was still fighting inside.
But he was losing.
