Lira pulled Mira deep into the forest.
They ran fast. Branches hit their faces. Purple rain made the ground slippery.
Mira was crying while running. "We can't just leave him! That was not Kai anymore! He had purple eyes and dark armor!"
Lira's voice was tight. "If we stayed, he would have hurt us. The god has him now. We need help from the Breaker camp. They know how to seal god fragments."
Behind them, the shadows in the trees moved strangely. Like they were watching.
Mira looked back. "What if Kai comes after us? What if the king part decides to catch us?"
Lira did not answer. She just ran faster.
In the clearing, Kai stood alone.
No — not Kai.
The Shadow King stood there.
Dark armor covered his body. Purple light glowed from the cracks in the armor. His eyes were cold and royal.
He looked at the spot where Lira and Mira had run.
A small voice inside him — the real Kai — whispered weakly.
"Don't… hurt them…"
The king voice answered out loud. "They are weak. They will learn or they will break. But first, we need more power."
He raised one hand.
The shadows around the clearing rose like black smoke. They formed into small shadow beasts. Ten of them. They bowed to him.
"Find the girls," the king ordered. "Do not harm them. Bring them back alive."
The shadow beasts ran into the forest.
Inside Kai's mind, the real Kai fought hard.
He pushed against the ten Echoes and Nyxar.
"I am Kai Voss! Game tester! Not a king! Let me out!"
Nyxar laughed. **"You are nothing without us. The tenth Echo made you complete. Stop fighting. Enjoy the power."**
Kai felt his body move even though he did not want to.
He started walking in the direction of the girls.
Every step felt wrong.
But the power felt so good.
Stronger than ever.
He could feel every shadow in the forest. He could command them.
He could do anything.
A new status screen appeared in his vision.

Kai tried to close the screen, but the king part kept it open.
"See?" the royal voice said. "We are improving."
Deep in the forest, Lira and Mira stopped to catch their breath.
Mira leaned against a tree. "I'm scared… What if Kai never comes back? What if he becomes a bad guy forever?"
Lira wiped her tears. "He is still fighting inside. I saw his eyes change for a second. We must reach the camp. They have sealing stones and old rituals. We can pull the god out."
Suddenly, black shadows moved between the trees.
Ten small shadow beasts appeared. They did not attack. They just stood there, watching.
One of them spoke with Kai's new royal voice.
"Come back. The king commands it."
Mira threw her last few cards. Explosions hit two beasts. They turned to smoke.
But more shadows rose to replace them.
Lira sent her silver threads. She tied three beasts, but they broke free easily.
The beasts did not fight back hard. They only tried to surround the girls.
"They are not trying to kill us," Lira said. "Kai is still holding back somehow."
Mira was breathing hard. "Then let's run faster!"
They ran again.
Behind them, the real Kai was screaming inside his own body.
"Stop! Leave them alone!"
The king answered calmly. "They will serve us or they will learn fear. Either way, they are useful."
Kai felt his control slipping more.
Every minute, the real him became smaller.
Like a voice getting quieter in a big crowded room.
He tried one last push.
For three seconds, he took control of his mouth.
"RUN FASTER!" he shouted in his real voice. "I can't hold the king much longer!"
Lira heard it.
She grabbed Mira's hand tighter. "He is still there! Keep running!"
The shadow beasts moved faster now.
The forest became darker.
The purple cracks in the sky glowed brighter.
A big Veil Quake was coming soon.
And in the middle of everything, Kai was trapped inside his own body.
Watching.
Fighting.
Losing.
