Chapter 16 - City and Temple

Aeries gets shocked seeing another official member from Temple of Divine Fire and Animal. He doesn't show his expression to that man. He is wearing similar type of dress and badge like Captain Duke Walter. But there is some exception in this man.

Steven is wearing a blue trench coat having a fire emblem on his right chest. He is wearing a black hat having a silver badge of fire marked. He is wearing a pair of gloves colored with deep blue, seeming like deep ocean, having a red edge in the gloves.

In reply Aeries utters, "I am Aeries Vangrove."

"Great name. I heard similar name somewhere." Steven replies in a relaxing tone.

"Might be."

"Great. Are you new here?" Steven inquires him joyfully having a wide smile on his face. He is a chill guy by look.

"Yeah, most probably."

"Oh, I understand. Where-"

Someone interferes in Steven's talking. He can't finish his question. A middle aged man from behind interrupts him. He ignores Aeries as if Aeries was never in that spot.

A horse carriage having a sigil on the door stops in front of them. The sigil symbolizes the carriage of any official department under any church or temple.

The sigil has a vertical flame shaped like an eye burning with fire. The outer lines form a rising inferno – sharp, elongated, almost a spear like. Inside the flame rests a circular hollow center, representingthe divine core. Through the centers run a thin vertical line symbolizing judgment, purification and justice. The sigil is fully made of silver even colored with silver.

Aeries doesn't understand one thing, "Why is only the symbol of fire in the carriage not any kind of symbol of white tiger like Captain or any animal?"

Steven gets up into the carriage and bids farewell to Aeries.

Aeries follows the path mentioned by Captain. He takes a local horse carriage, having no roof. He calls the coachman and asks if he wants to go to Temple of Divine Fire and Animal.

"Twelve Vellin."

"Lets go," Aeries gets into it without bargaining.

The carriage starts with a steady speed. He notices the locality of Eyle with his deep blue eyes. He finds some carriage, looking like cycle in the earth, run by steam engine. Smell of ashes can be foundand fog of dark gas can be seen from the transports.

The street is fitted with granite blocks, polished smooth by carriages and regulated traffic. Rainwater doesn't gather here; its thin wave runs through the tunnel of drain. Gas lamps stand at equal distance, mounted on black iron-wrought posts curled with elegant metalwork. When the moon starts to rise they ignite one by one. Buildings rise three or two stories high, their facades faced with pale stone and dark timber framing.

Aeries nearly calls it like a developed city like earth but in a Dystopian-Victorian era, where stem engines are the main source.

After going for almost twenty minutes crossing big and small roads, the carriage stops at its destination. The coachman turns his face to Aeries and advises him to step down from the carriage.

Aeries exchanges money and looks at his left side.

The Temple of Divine Fire and Animal rests in front of his eyes. It rises from a basin of black volcanic stone. No banners hang from the peak. Pillars shaped like upward-twisting tongues of the fire line the approach. The air smells ash, iron and resin incense.

At the summit stands the gate of Cinders, a massive bronze doorway scarred by centuries of heat. Aeries gets amazed by the view of such huge building for the first time in this world. He walks into the temple and enters into the main hall.

Inside the main sanctum is a circular chamber, placing with chairs. Aeries looks up at the roof. There is hanging a lantern at the top of the ceiling. There is a flame blowing in the lantern. It is neither a bonfire nor a furnace.

Aeries sits down in the front row and there is no one at that moment in the temple, even no priest. Suddenly two other men enter into the hall of temple. One of them is wearing a simple dress, symbolizing typical middle class family. Another one is wearing a fancy colorful coat over a normal dress, representing his high class. He is taller than the typical middle class man.

All on a sudden, Aeries notices someone coming to them with a note slip in his hand. He is not tall even short. His eyes are the most unsettling parts. His skin bears faint warmth in color, like stone that has sat near a hearth for turnings. He is wearing a white full cloak.

A voice reverberates inside the room loudly. A shiver has run through everyone.

"Welcome to The Temple of Divine Fire and Animal."

Then he looks at them sitting in front of him, hearing his speech with concentration.

"I am Aurevian the Second of His name, The Keeper of The Cinders and the Grandeur Priest of Divine Fire."

Aeries heard everything from the very beginning remembering every word. But Aeries thinks deeply, "If this is Temple of Divine Fire and Animal, then why is he introducing himself as priest of Divine Fire."

The tall man interferes, "Isn't this Fire and Animal?"

"You all are going to sit for the exam under the guidance of Divine Fire committee. Detective department is under the control of Divine Fire not Animal." He takes a pause and states with his clear throat, "Once you pass the exam, you will know the rules and regulations of the temple until then follow what I order otherwise you will be sacked out. REMEMBER MY WORDS PROPERLY."

There is no word coming from the benches. All of them, including Aeries, keep silent.

Aurevian orders them, "Register the names in the forms. Exams will be conducted tomorrow before the commencement of prayer, but the place will be unknown to you."

No one could understand why they are not allowed to know the place. But Aeries asks a question, "If the exam is going to be held tomorrow, then where will we stay today and tonight."

Aurevian replies in a relaxing tone, "Under any area of the temple but don't leave the area otherwise you will be eliminated from the exam."

Aeries hardly understands his words though he bows down his head as a sign of gratitude.

Aurevian steps down and leaves the hall. Everyone is looking around the hall. There is still thirty minutes left to start the prayer. But everyone can't understand what to do with the last words of the Priest.

Finding no way, Aeries keeps staring at the lamp of the hall till people start to come for prayer.
