Chapter 20 - Exam

Aeries enters into the hall of the temple. Everyday the temple opens its door after the rise of one and half stars though the prayer starts at 11 O'clock. Here in this world a day consists of Thirty Sixhours, 25hours for daylight and another 11 hours for night. It has two time names like AM and PM in the earth. But Aeries forgets what they are.

It is now 7 O'clock and it is not proper time for people to come to the temple though there are two persons sitting inside the big hall, under the big candle hanging from rooftop with burning flame. Aeries notices them sitting at a far distance from them. He takes a seat at the first row.

Suddenly a bell rings through the hall room resonating every corner of the room. A man enters into the hall. He is wearing a white cloak having a sigil on the left side. It is the symbol of flaming fire under the department of Divine Fire. He is not enough tall but not enough short. His eyes carry more aura than his whole body parts. His eyes are symbolizing that he is one of the powerful members of the temple. He is Aurevian the Second of His name, The Keeper of The Cinders and the Grandeur Priest of Divine Fire.

He walks to the sanctuary and turns to three persons sitting in front of him. He clears his throat and puts down his veil on the chair. He speaks. There is no mic there to produce sound for the whole room though the sound reverberates through the hall. Everyone can hear this with a loud voice. Aeries gets amazed hearing the voice. He understands that Aurevian holds any kind of special power like him.

Aurevian notices everyone and speaks, "Listen to my words carefully and attentively." He then takes a pause and turns over the page of the notebook keeping in his hand. He then gazes around the notebook for five seconds approximately. All are silent and waiting for Aurevian to speak.

Aurevian explains all the rules and regulations for exam to the participants sitting in front of him, "Your exam is over. You all three have passed the exam."

All three gets a bolt from the blue hearing this rule.

The tall man stands up from the seat and shouts out to Aurevian, "Have you gone out of your mind? What nonsense are you talking about?"

The smaller one adds with him, "When did the exam start? What are you talking about?"

Aeries couldn't manage to control him and expresses out, "We have stayed one night under the open sky finding no place to stay. And you are saying that the exam has been finished!"

The taller man adds with Aeries, "Supernatural phenomena happened last night with me. One giant creature appeared in front of me. I took my life at risk to fight with that monster. If anything happened with me, how could I manage to sit for the exam?"

The other man interrupts him and expresses out, "Same type of incident happened with me. We have heard Eyle is the second largest port city of Tharvoss country. But I haven't heard that supernatural events could happen here. If I knew this, I would not really come to this city ever."

Aeries now understands that mystical incidents not only happened with him last night but also with other two examinees. Aeries is plotting something in his calculated mind, "Captain Duke told me that the exam would held on after two days. Aurevian ordered us to stay in the region of the temple not outside. Even three supernatural incidents happened cumulatively at the same time. A giant, five figures like apparitions. Was it the part of the exam? But Captain told me that the exam would continue for two hours. But there is no sign of such like this. Even Aurevian told us that the exam was over. What's going on with us? Should I ask anything or wait for him to clear all the confusions rising among us? Maybe I should wait."

Aeries doesn't add anything with them yet he is continuously thinking in his mind. He couldn't understand what to reply or what to react. He turns his head to Aurevian.

And then Aurevian replies in a deep tone. In his voice there is domination. He starts to speak, "All you are mentioning was a part of our exam. Even you stayed outside was also a part of our exam. And-"

The taller man interrupts again, "How could all these be part of an exam? It is really a trap."

Aurevian doesn't heed to him properly, "Even the supernatural events you are mentioning is a part of our exam to examine your durability, survival skill, tenderness and fear. Today you will know all about these when you are officially announced as the detective under the Divine Fire department. You will get some of your desired question there. Before we proceed you have to fill up these three forms. I am giving you ink and paper to fill up the papers as soon as possible."

Aurevian provides the participants with ink and papers. Aeries and other two persons get them properly. Aeries gazes at the paper with his sharp blue eyes. There is required information asked in the form. Aeries fills up the form fast. After a while Aurevian collects all the three papers from them and again comes back to the sanctuary.

Aurevian changes his facial expression and starts pronouncing the names written on the forms. "Teylor, Aeries and Baelor. Follow me and don't ask any question to me until I give you chance to speak. Remember you have to follow me by height sequence, starting from shorter one."

No one dares to utter any word against Aurevian. Teylor comes at first position, then Aeries and at last Baelor. No one speaks with each other. What could be the reason is mystery. Is it out of fear? Is it because of the order? Is it because of trust issues? They even don't understand why they don't speak. They just follow Aurevian like a herd of sheep.

Aurevian steps down from the sanctuary and turns to the back stage of the sanctuary. Here he stops in front of a door. There is a remark, "Only for the temple officials", written on the door. He pushes the door inward and the interior portion comes out.

There are stairs starting from the door. Aurevian orders them to follow him. Aeries is looking around the walls. There are lots of embroidery made of cobbled stones and mud. They might be prepared by hands not by machines. All of them follow the path of Aurevian. After passing one floor they come to a bisection way. There are markers written, one is Divine Fire and another is Divine Animal.

Aurevian takes them to the Divine Fire pathway. Teylor is almost going to ask a question but Aeries resists him to speak by pressing his hand on his shoulder. Aeries understands what he can ask to Aurevian. Yet he wants to follow Aurevian without asking any question. Aeries is noticing every other person in that pathway. Every worker is busy solving problems. They don't bother who comes or not along the pathway until it is very urgent. Aeries finds out this is a long pathway than under the sect. He finds Captain Duke discussing with someone else. But Captain doesn't notice him.

Then all on a sudden Aurevian stops without a sound. He is standing in front of a long door. There is a board hanging on the door.

"REGISTER OFFICE FOR DETECTIVE AGENTS."
