Chapter 18 - The Keeper

We drank potions and examined our clothes. A single potion hadn't filled my max magic. I was only wearing half of a shirt and Stella had a huge hole in hers. I don't think the spell caster's supposed to have higher defense than the warrior. I won't complain about it, it saved her and I never put a single magic point into hardening my body let alone trying to enhance it naturally.

"We're going to need to make enough money to get clothes to replace these."

"Yeah…" I looked at the shirt wrapped around my chest.

We used the status skill one last time. Stella was around twelve magic points behind me when we started. After a certain point with magic points things happen to you. Me and Stella are close where magic will naturally increase things about us by itself. Right now some happen naturally with our physical bodies, but soon magic will also increase naturally. I also paid some attention to anatomy class.

My strength was a total one hundred and three magic points. Though the magic makes you stronger you need more than a couple of magic points to finally feel it. I flexed my hand with the new found strength.

"That looks like where the keeper should be." I looked up to see Stella pointing towards the direction the goblins came from. We walked over lighting up the flat stone walls and floor. Within the stone room was a lone chest covered in shadows. The lights were out in this room also.

"Yeah. That's a keeper."

"Not too many dangerous things in this dungeon. Really only those fast goblins."

"Yeah, just be ready." I brightened the room holding the light with as low of a magic cost as I could. I picked up a small rock and threw it at the chest.

The chest stirred and a black hand shot out from the chest. It hit the floor and purple gas surrounds the limb. It pulled itself out of the chest. A seven foot dark purple body was covered in dinky red robes like the goblins who threw spells. The robes had five hands extended outward. The head was round and had a bright white gas pulsing out. Two long eyeballs draped down the face in a sad expression that never changed.

I collapsed gravity magic in my hand and filled it with fire. A small dagger became visible. I nodded at Stella and ran towards the keeper.

The purple dark mass took the stance as those fast goblins. It shot right in front of me and a heavy hand came down in a fist. My recent increase should have allowed me to dodge it, but its hand was still quicker and slammed me.

I countered weakly with a stab of my dagger. It dodged into a bright white spear thrown by Stella. One of its hands was destroyed and a bubbling scream shook the dungeon. One of its extra arms flicked out, and an icicle formed. It shot through the air and towards Stella.

Stella sidestepped it and lifted her staff up. At the same time I followed up my attack and cut its legs. It fell on a knee and Stella's flaming spear hit it in the side. I jumped back but one of its arms grabbed me. Its grip was slightly stronger than the strong goblins before. It whipped me towards Stella.

I stabbed my dagger into its arm and Stella launched one last flaming spear at it. The head pulsed and the entire floor became winter cold. It dropped me, its leg shot out from beneath the robes and kicked me deathly back towards Stella.

Its body absorbed what remained of the first arm. Then its hand all stretched towards us forming a spell.

"Stella, can you block that?"

"I can try but I'm out of magic."

"How?"

"I lost more and more in this and the last room. I was really low when we started." My dagger blinked out right as Stella said that leaving us both defenseless and offenseless.

"Here take my last potions." I reached the bags we left at the door. "Just blow it away please." I tried mimicking the stance again and shot myself forward. I might have imagined it but I went faster. The spell they were casting launched early at me. A beam of bright icicles cut the room. It was easier dodging it then the fast goblin skill.

I couldn't tell if Stella had dodged it because it wrapped its four arms into one and shot a fist towards me. I took the hit and with my smaller body clung onto its arm. I saw Stella's spell brightening behind me. I flipped to its back and forced the gravity down around us. My head exploded with pain but Stella's flaming spear blew through its head. The end of the spear had a pumpkin on it that beamed white.

The purple mass formed back together and fell into a chest before resting back on the ground. I fell backwards from the headache.

"Ow."

"YOU IDDIOT!" Stella ran and cupped my limp body.

"Ah, don't yell. Just get me a tiny potion."

"We don't have any more."

"Just get me out then." With a smile I said. "Oh and get the chest."

With a sigh she stood up and pulled open the chest. She pulled out a light yellow staff with accents of brown. It was a long staff, at the end it had a rectangular shape curve up and a rectangular through the end. The other end had a circle cut out hanging on the end. Then the staff opened up into rectangular curves that surrounded the open space at the end meant for casting spells.

"That's an upgrade."

We slowly walked out of the dungeon. It took us around an hour and a half to get out. We stayed up later than we thought and it was around five am. We went in with a couple potions and daggers. Filled our bag with them and some medal shards. Now we just had the medal.

The guest rewarded us with two hundred and fifty dollars. While we were gone five more people had disappeared. Meaning we had to hurry on this riddle. While walking out the guild we saw Baydí. We walked over to say hi. We told her about the quest we just went on and how we had dragged around a big cake. Of course we left out why we had the cake out of fear of the Queen of the night.

Baydí had similar heavy bags under her eyes. She must have been doing a long quest also.

We got back to our hotel and took a nap that was supposed to last only a little but ended up the entire day. Apparently comboing a day of training then a full night of pushing against magic exhaustion and physical exhaustion and ending it completely empty would leave you this drained.
