Chapter 12: Quirk Assessment Test
"Our country still uses unified physical records as the average standard. That's completely unreasonable," Aizawa Shouta said calmly. "But that's the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology neglecting its responsibilities."
He put his phone back into his pocket and looked at Izuna.
"You ranked first in the practical exam, right?" Aizawa asked. "How far could you throw a softball in middle school?"
"…Ten meters?" Izuna replied uncertainly.
To be honest, he couldn't answer properly. Not only had he never attended middle school in this world, but even before coming here he had never thrown a softball.
"…"
Aizawa was momentarily speechless.
However, considering that Izuna's Quirk was Hypnosis, he didn't pursue the matter further.
"Izuna's Quirk is hypnosis, which probably won't help much with a softball throw," Aizawa said before turning toward another student.
"Bakugo. How far could you throw in middle school?"
"Sixty-seven meters."
As he spoke, Bakugo Katsuki glanced sideways at Izuna, the provocation in his eyes obvious.
"Then you can try again using your Quirk," Aizawa said as he handed him a softball.
"As long as you don't step outside that circle, you can do whatever you want."
"Hurry up and throw it with all your strength."
"Then…"
Bakugo took the softball and stretched his body, concentrating his power into his right hand.
"Add the explosive force to the throw…"
"Go to hell!!!"
He roared as an orange explosion burst from his palm, propelling the softball forward at incredible speed.
Aizawa calmly raised the measuring device in his hand.
"First, you need to understand your limits. That's the proper foundation for becoming a hero."
The number displayed on the device made everyone gasp.
705 meters.
"Is that number real?"
"So we can really use our Quirks freely?"
"This is amazing!"
"As expected of U.A.'s Hero Course!"
Many students immediately became excited.
But Aizawa's expression darkened.
"Is it really that interesting?" he asked coldly.
"Heroes train you to become professionals, yet you're treating this like a game?"
"If that's your attitude… then fine."
He crossed his arms and spoke calmly.
"In this assessment, the student who ranks last overall across the eight tests will be considered to have no potential."
"And that person will be expelled."
"WHAT?!"
The entire class froze in shock.
Uraraka Ochaco nervously raised her hand.
"Teacher… isn't that too unreasonable? Expelling someone on the first day of school…"
"We came here to become heroes. Nobody wants to be expelled."
"Natural disasters, major accidents, and reckless villains won't be reasonable with you," Aizawa replied flatly.
"I'm teaching you your first lesson."
"Survival of the fittest."
"If you want to become heroes who save people… if you want to stand proudly in front of your loved ones… then show me everything you're capable of."
"For those who pass, U.A. will give you the best resources available."
"But in exchange, you'll also face the harshest training."
"If you're confident in yourselves—then the test begins."
Beside Izuna, Yaoyorozu Momo lowered her head slightly, her brows furrowed.
"…Someone will really be expelled?"
"This reminds me of Kakashi," Izuna muttered quietly.
The situation felt strangely familiar to him.
"Enough talking," Aizawa said as he looked at the measuring device again.
"The first test—50-meter dash."
Izuna's results:
• 50-meter dash — 5 seconds• Grip strength — 100 kg• Standing long jump — 15 meters• Repeated side jumps — 200 times• Softball throw — 182 meters• Sit-ups — 102• Seated forward bend — 25 cm• Endurance run — 3 minutes
Izuna deliberately suppressed much of his strength during the test.
Even so, his results were still impressive.
Although a few small incidents occurred during the process, the Quirk Assessment Test was ultimately completed smoothly.
Aizawa looked at the records in his hand with a slight hint of surprise.
"No Quirk that enhances physical ability… yet the results are this good?"
Does this kid train every day?
"Alright," Aizawa said calmly.
"I'll now announce the final rankings."
"Explaining everything individually would take too long, so I'll display them all at once."
A transparent panel appeared in front of the class, showing the total scores and rankings of all twenty students.
Izuna ranked 10th, exactly in the middle.
Bakugo Katsuki ranked 1st.
Izuku Midoriya ranked last.
Just as everyone expected.
"Let me clarify something," Aizawa said as he turned off the display.
"The expulsion was a lie."
He looked at the stunned students and gave a faint smile.
"It was simply a rational way to push your Quirks to their limits."
"…Huh?" Midoriya blinked in confusion.
After worrying the entire time, he could hardly believe what he had just heard.
"The test is over," Aizawa said casually.
"The lesson plan materials are in the classroom. Go back and read them carefully."
Without another word, he turned around and walked away, leaving behind only his tired-looking back.
"…What?!"
