Chapter 30 - Chapter 32:The Moonborn Shift

The forest did not sleep that night.

Even after Kael and his rogue army disappeared into the darkness, tension lingered in the air like the calm before a violent storm.

Torches burned across the pack territory. Warriors patrolled the borders in pairs, their senses sharp and restless. Every rustle of leaves, every snap of a twig sent wolves glancing into the shadows.

War was coming.

Lyra stood in the training clearing, staring at her hands.

Silver light flickered faintly across her fingers.

The Moonfire refused to settle.

Ever since Kael appeared, the power inside her had grown more unstable… more alive.

Her wolf paced restlessly inside her mind.

He's dangerous, the wolf seemed to whisper.

"I know," Lyra murmured quietly.

"You shouldn't be out here alone."

Darius's voice came from behind her.

Lyra didn't turn immediately.

"You're starting to repeat yourself."

Darius walked into the clearing, his golden eyes scanning the dark forest before settling on her.

"And you keep ignoring me."

Lyra shrugged slightly.

"Someone has to stay alert."

Darius stopped beside her.

"You already fought a pack of Shadow Fangs today."

"And tomorrow I might have to fight an army," she replied calmly.

Darius studied her carefully.

The moonlight illuminated her silver eyes, and faint traces of Moonfire shimmered beneath her skin.

"You're different tonight," he said quietly.

Lyra raised an eyebrow.

"That's not suspicious at all."

"I'm serious," he said.

He stepped closer.

"The power inside you is evolving."

Lyra exhaled slowly.

"I can feel it."

Her wolf stirred again, stronger this time.

"It's like something is trying to break free."

Darius's gaze sharpened.

"Your wolf?"

Lyra shook her head.

"Something deeper."

The wind suddenly shifted.

A cold scent drifted through the clearing.

Rogue wolves.

Darius stiffened instantly.

"You smell that?"

Lyra nodded.

"They're here."

The warning howl came seconds later.

One of the border patrols.

Then another.

And another.

The pack was under attack.

Darius's aura exploded into golden light.

"Stay close to me."

Lyra rolled her eyes.

"That's not happening."

Before he could argue, the first rogue wolves burst into the clearing.

Their eyes glowed with savage hunger.

More wolves poured through the trees behind them.

Twenty.

Thirty.

Maybe more.

The battle began instantly.

Pack warriors clashed with rogues beneath the moonlight, snarls and howls echoing through the forest.

Lyra stepped forward.

Her silver aura ignited.

Moonfire burst to life across her arms.

The first rogue lunged at her.

She struck with a blast of energy that sent the wolf flying across the clearing.

Another attacked from the side.

Lyra spun, flames of silver light trailing behind her movements as she slammed her palm into its chest.

The rogue crashed into a tree.

But more kept coming.

They were relentless.

One wolf leapt at her back—

Darius intercepted it mid-air.

His golden energy exploded outward as he slammed the rogue into the ground.

"Watch your blind side!" he shouted.

Lyra smirked.

"I thought you said stay close."

Darius growled.

"Now is not the time."

Three rogues charged them at once.

Lyra and Darius moved instinctively.

Side by side.

She struck first, Moonfire blasting one attacker away.

Darius followed with a powerful kick that sent another crashing through the dirt.

The last wolf lunged straight for Lyra's throat.

Darius reached for her—

But he was half a second too late.

The rogue's claws sliced across Lyra's shoulder.

Pain exploded through her body.

Her wolf roared.

Something inside her snapped.

Energy erupted from her chest like a breaking dam.

The Moonfire flared violently.

Silver light consumed her body.

Lyra gasped as power flooded through her veins.

Her bones shifted.

Her muscles burned.

Darius's eyes widened.

"Lyra…!"

But the transformation had already begun.

Silver flames wrapped around her body like a living storm.

Her wolf surged forward, merging with the Moonborn energy.

Then the light exploded outward.

When it faded—

Lyra stood in the clearing.

But she was no longer entirely human.

Silver markings glowed across her skin like moonlit runes.

Her eyes burned brighter than ever.

And behind her—

A massive spectral wolf made of silver energy towered like a guardian spirit.

The rogue wolves froze in terror.

Darius stared in disbelief.

"Moonborn… shift…"

Lyra lifted her head slowly.

Her voice carried a low echo now.

"I warned them not to come here."

The spectral wolf behind her moved as she moved.

Its glowing form mirrored every step.

The remaining rogues hesitated.

Then they attacked together.

Lyra stepped forward.

The spectral wolf lunged with her.

Silver energy ripped through the battlefield like a tidal wave.

Rogues were thrown aside like leaves in a storm.

Within seconds…

The clearing was silent.

The surviving rogues fled into the forest.

Lyra stood in the center of the battlefield, breathing heavily.

The spectral wolf slowly faded behind her.

Her silver markings dimmed.

Then her knees buckled.

Darius caught her before she hit the ground.

"Easy," he murmured.

Lyra blinked weakly.

"Did… I win?"

Darius laughed softly.

"You destroyed them."

The surrounding warriors stared in awe.

"She shifted without fully transforming…"

"That was Moonborn power…"

"Did you see the wolf behind her?"

Darius lifted Lyra into his arms.

"You pushed yourself too far."

Lyra smirked faintly.

"Worth it."

But before Darius could respond—

A cold laugh echoed through the forest.

Slow.

Mocking.

Both of them froze.

Kael's voice drifted from the shadows.

"Magnificent."

The rogue Alpha stepped out from the darkness once again.

His crimson eyes gleamed with excitement.

"I was hoping the pressure would awaken it."

Lyra's wolf growled weakly.

"You planned this attack."

Kael smiled.

"Of course."

His gaze burned with fascination.

"The Moonborn Shift."

He took another step forward.

"Even I never achieved that form."

Darius's voice turned lethal.

"You're done here."

Kael chuckled.

"Oh no."

His eyes locked onto Lyra.

"I've only just begun."

The air around him darkened as his own power began to rise.

"And soon…"

His smile widened.

"That power will belong to me."

The moonlight dimmed as clouds rolled across the sky.

And for the first time…

Lyra realized the real battle hadn't even started yet.
