Chapter 32 - Chapter 34:Whispers Of Betrayal

The forest was quiet again.

Too quiet.

After Kael disappeared into the shadows, the warriors slowly returned to their posts, though no one truly relaxed. The air still carried the scent of rogues and dark power.

Lyra sat on a wooden bench outside the Alpha house, her body aching from the battle.

Across the clearing, the moonlight filtered through the trees, silver and calm—almost as if the chaos of the night had never happened.

But Lyra knew better.

Something had changed.

Inside her.

Inside the pack.

Darius stepped out of the Alpha house and approached her, carrying a small cloth bundle.

"You should eat something," he said, handing it to her.

Lyra opened it.

Bread. Dried meat. Water.

"You're treating me like I almost died," she muttered.

Darius sat beside her.

"You pushed your power beyond its limit. Twice."

Lyra took a bite of the bread.

"Still standing."

Darius smirked slightly.

"Barely."

For a moment, the tension eased between them.

Then Lyra looked toward the dark forest again.

"Kael said something strange."

Darius's expression hardened immediately.

"What?"

"He said I was valuable."

Darius nodded slowly.

"He wasn't lying."

Lyra frowned.

"That doesn't explain anything."

Darius leaned back slightly.

"The Moonborn bloodline isn't just powerful. It's rare."

Lyra listened carefully.

"In the old days," Darius continued, "Moonborn wolves were leaders. Protectors of the balance between packs."

Lyra raised an eyebrow.

"Sounds important."

"It was."

His voice grew darker.

"But some wolves saw that power differently."

Lyra already knew where this was going.

"Kael."

Darius nodded.

"He believed Moonborn wolves should rule everything."

Lyra sighed.

"Of course he did."

Darius continued.

"That's why he hunted them."

Lyra froze.

"What?"

"He tracked Moonborn wolves across territories," Darius said quietly. "Killed them… or forced them to join his army."

Lyra felt anger spark in her chest.

"So I'm the last one he hasn't captured."

"Possibly," Darius said.

Lyra stared at the ground.

"No pressure."

Before Darius could reply—

A loud argument erupted near the pack gates.

Both of them looked up instantly.

Two warriors were dragging another wolf into the clearing.

The captured wolf struggled violently.

"I didn't do anything!"

One of the guards growled.

"You were caught sneaking near the borders during the attack!"

Darius stood immediately.

"Bring him here."

The warriors pushed the wolf forward.

Lyra recognized him.

Tomas.

One of the pack's younger scouts.

He looked terrified.

"I swear I didn't betray anyone," Tomas said quickly.

Darius's voice turned cold.

"Then explain why you were outside the territory when the rogues attacked."

Tomas hesitated.

That was all it took.

Lyra felt her wolf react instantly.

Something is wrong.

Tomas glanced around nervously.

"I was just scouting—"

One of the warriors interrupted.

"We found this on him."

The guard held up a small metal pendant.

Lyra's stomach dropped.

The symbol engraved into it was unmistakable.

A black crescent moon.

Darius's eyes darkened instantly.

"Where did you get that?"

Tomas's face turned pale.

"I… I found it—"

"Don't lie," Darius growled.

The Alpha aura in his voice shook the clearing.

Tomas collapsed to his knees.

"I didn't have a choice!" he shouted.

The warriors murmured angrily.

Lyra stepped closer.

"What do you mean?"

Tomas looked up at her, panic in his eyes.

"He came to me weeks ago."

Lyra felt a cold chill.

"Kael?"

Tomas nodded.

"He said if I didn't help him… he would kill my family."

Silence spread across the clearing.

Lyra felt her anger slowly cool into something colder.

"How were you helping him?"

Tomas swallowed.

"I was sending signals… telling his wolves when patrols moved."

Darius clenched his fists.

"You helped them attack this pack."

"I didn't want to!" Tomas cried.

Lyra looked at him carefully.

Her wolf studied his scent.

Fear.

Guilt.

Truth.

But something else lingered there too.

"Wait," Lyra said suddenly.

Darius looked at her.

"What?"

Lyra pointed at the pendant.

"That symbol."

Darius frowned.

"What about it?"

Lyra's silver eyes narrowed.

"That's not just Kael's mark."

Everyone looked at her.

"Then what is it?" one of the warriors asked.

Lyra's wolf stirred uneasily.

"It's older than that."

Darius studied the pendant again.

Slow realization spread across his face.

"You're right."

Lyra crossed her arms.

"That symbol belonged to the first Moonborn clan."

The clearing fell silent.

Tomas looked confused.

"I don't understand…"

Darius's voice dropped.

"Kael isn't just hunting Moonborn wolves."

Lyra finished the thought.

"He's rebuilding the Moonborn clan."

The implication hit everyone at once.

A rogue Moonborn army.

Darius looked toward the mountains again.

"If Kael succeeds…"

Lyra nodded slowly.

"There won't be any pack left to stop him."

Suddenly—

A sharp whistle cut through the night air.

The warriors turned toward the trees.

A shadow darted between the branches.

Too fast to see clearly.

Then a dagger flew out of the darkness.

Straight toward Lyra.

Darius moved instantly.

He knocked the blade aside with his arm.

The dagger embedded into the wooden post behind them.

A small note was tied to its handle.

Lyra pulled it free.

Her silver eyes scanned the message.

Her expression hardened.

"What does it say?" Darius asked.

Lyra read the words slowly.

"Send the Moonborn to the northern cliffs by the next full moon… or the pack dies."

The message was signed with a single symbol.

The black crescent moon.

Kael had made his move.

And this time…

It wasn't just a threat.

It was a challenge.

Lyra looked up at Darius.

Her wolf growled quietly.

"Looks like we're going to war."

Darius's golden eyes burned with determination.

"Then we'll make sure he regrets it."

The moon rose higher above the forest.

And somewhere beyond the mountains…

Kael's army continued to grow
