The pack territory was quiet again.
But this time the silence was filled with dread.
Kael's message had spread quickly among the warriors. Everyone knew what it meant. The rogue Alpha wasn't simply threatening them anymore.
He was calling Lyra out.
And if she didn't answer…
The pack would pay the price.
Lyra stood inside her room in the Alpha house, staring out the window at the forest.
The full moon was still days away.
But waiting felt impossible.
Her wolf paced restlessly inside her mind.
He wants you, the wolf whispered.
"I know," Lyra murmured.
And he won't stop.
Lyra's silver eyes hardened.
"That's why I'm ending this."
She quietly pulled on her boots and cloak.
The pack was asleep.
The guards at the borders were fewer at this hour.
If she moved carefully…
No one would notice.
Especially Darius.
The thought made her hesitate for only a second.
He would try to stop her.
He would insist on coming with her.
And if Kael truly wanted her alone…
Then bringing the pack into it would only cause more bloodshed.
Lyra opened the door silently and slipped into the dark hallway.
Within minutes she was outside the Alpha house, moving quickly through the forest.
The moonlight guided her steps.
Her wolf's senses helped her avoid the patrol routes.
Soon the pack territory was behind her.
The deeper forest swallowed her completely.
For hours she ran.
The trees grew older and taller as she moved farther from familiar lands. Strange energy pulsed through the air, ancient and powerful.
Finally the ground began to rise.
The northern cliffs.
Lyra slowed as she reached the top of a rocky ridge.
The wind was stronger here, howling across the mountains like distant voices.
And then she saw it.
Hidden between two massive stone walls stood a ruined structure.
Ancient.
Carved from pale gray stone.
Massive pillars stretched toward the sky, though many had collapsed with time.
Strange glowing symbols covered the remaining walls.
Lyra stepped closer.
Her wolf stirred with recognition.
"This place…" she whispered.
The energy here felt familiar.
Like the moon itself had once touched this ground.
Suddenly a voice spoke behind her.
"You found it."
Lyra spun around instantly.
Darius stepped out from the shadows.
Her eyes widened.
"You followed me."
Darius crossed his arms.
"You thought I wouldn't notice you sneaking out in the middle of the night?"
Lyra sighed.
"You were supposed to stay with the pack."
"And let you walk into a trap alone?" he replied.
"Not happening."
Lyra turned back toward the ruins.
"You shouldn't be here."
Darius stepped beside her.
"Too late."
He studied the ancient structure.
"What is this place?"
Lyra slowly approached the broken pillars.
Her fingers brushed across one of the glowing symbols.
Silver energy flickered beneath her skin instantly.
Her wolf stirred.
"I think…" she said quietly,
"This is where the Moonborn clan started."
Darius's eyes widened slightly.
"A Moonborn temple?"
Lyra nodded.
"These symbols…"
She traced the carvings carefully.
"They're ancient wolf runes."
The ground suddenly vibrated softly beneath their feet.
Both of them froze.
The temple had reacted.
A faint beam of moonlight broke through the clouds above and struck the center of the ruins.
The stone floor began to glow.
Lyra's silver aura responded immediately.
The light grew brighter.
Then a deep voice echoed through the temple ruins.
Not from outside.
But from the stones themselves.
"Moonborn blood has returned."
Lyra's breath caught.
The voice was ancient.
Powerful.
"The heir has awakened."
Darius stared at the glowing symbols.
"Did the temple just… speak?"
Lyra didn't answer.
The light around her was growing stronger.
Images suddenly flashed through her mind.
Ancient wolves standing beneath the same temple.
Moonlight pouring down from the sky.
A queen wearing a crown of silver fire.
And at her side…
A powerful Alpha.
Lyra staggered slightly.
Darius grabbed her arm.
"What did you see?"
Lyra's voice trembled.
"The Moonborn weren't just protectors."
Darius frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Lyra looked up at the glowing ruins.
"They were rulers."
Before Darius could respond—
A slow clap echoed through the temple.
Both of them turned sharply.
Kael stepped out from the shadows between the pillars.
His crimson eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
"Excellent."
Lyra's stomach dropped.
"You knew this place was here."
Kael smiled.
"Of course."
He walked slowly into the moonlight.
"I've been searching for it for years."
His gaze locked onto Lyra.
"But the temple only awakens for true Moonborn blood."
Darius stepped protectively in front of her.
"You set the trap."
Kael shrugged slightly.
"Not a trap."
His voice softened with excitement.
"A reunion."
Dark wolves emerged from the shadows behind him.
His elite guards.
Stronger than ordinary rogues.
Kael stopped a few steps away.
His eyes glowed faintly.
"The temple recognizes you," he said to Lyra.
"Which means it will finally open."
Lyra frowned.
"Open what?"
Kael's smile widened slowly.
"The Moonborn vault."
The ground trembled again.
The center of the temple floor cracked open slightly, revealing a staircase descending into darkness.
Ancient power poured out from below.
Darius's voice turned cold.
"You're not going down there."
Kael laughed softly.
"Oh, I will."
His crimson eyes burned with obsession.
"Because inside that vault…"
He looked directly at Lyra.
"Is the power to control every wolf on this continent."
The moonlight intensified above the ruins.
And the true battle for the Moonborn legacy was about to begin.
