Chapter 11 - Chapter 13:The Man Who walks In Shadows

The forest trembled with chaos.

Wolves clashed with hunters beneath the silver glow of the moon. The scent of blood filled the air, thick and metallic.

Lyra stood in the center of the clearing, breathing heavily.

The silver arrow still pierced her side.

Pain burned through her body like fire in her veins, but something inside her refused to let her fall.

Her power was awake now.

Wild.

Ancient.

Uncontrollable.

The hunters stared at her with fear spreading across their faces.

"What… what is she?" one of them whispered.

The scarred leader tightened his grip on his blade.

"She's the Moonborn," he growled.

"And if we don't kill her tonight, she'll become something none of us can stop."

He lunged forward.

But before his blade could reach her—

A powerful force slammed into him.

The man flew backward and crashed against a tree.

The hunters froze.

A deep, terrifying growl echoed through the forest.

Lyra's head snapped up.

The wolves around her immediately stepped back.

They recognized that growl.

Alpha.

From the shadows of the trees, a massive black wolf stepped into the moonlight.

Kael.

His golden eyes burned with rage as he looked at the hunters surrounding Lyra.

His chest rose and fell violently.

He had run the entire distance after feeling the mate bond scream through his body.

And now he could see her.

His mate.

Bleeding.

An arrow stuck in her side.

Something dark exploded inside him.

Kael shifted instantly into human form, his voice shaking with fury.

"Who did this?"

The hunters stepped back nervously.

One of them raised his weapon.

"Another wolf. Kill him!"

Kael moved faster than the man could blink.

Within seconds he had the hunter pinned to the ground, claws digging into his throat.

"I asked a question."

The scarred leader slowly stood again, wiping blood from his mouth.

"So… the Alpha finally arrived."

Kael turned his cold gaze toward him.

"You."

The hunter smirked.

"You should thank us. If we hadn't attacked, you never would have come running to your rejected mate."

The words hit like a punch.

Rejected mate.

Kael glanced at Lyra.

She was still standing, but barely.

Her glowing silver eyes met his.

There was no warmth in them.

Only cold anger.

The bond between them flickered painfully.

Kael felt guilt crash into him.

"Lyra—"

"Don't."

Her voice was weak, but sharp.

"Don't say my name like you care."

The words cut deeper than any blade.

But before Kael could respond—

The scarred hunter laughed.

"This is entertaining."

He raised his weapon again.

"Kill them both."

The remaining hunters attacked.

The clearing erupted into another brutal fight.

Kael fought like a storm, tearing through the hunters with savage fury. Wolves joined him, lunging from every direction.

But Lyra's strength was fading.

The silver arrow burned deeper with every passing second.

Her legs began to shake.

The world around her blurred.

Sienna rushed to her side.

"Lyra! Stay with me!"

Lyra's breathing became uneven.

"I… can't…"

She felt the power inside her flicker weakly.

The silver was poisoning her.

Just as her knees began to buckle—

A sudden wind swept through the clearing.

Cold.

Sharp.

Different.

Everyone froze.

Even the hunters.

A new scent filled the air.

Not wolf.

Not human.

Something darker.

From the edge of the forest, a tall figure stepped forward slowly.

He wore a long dark coat that moved with the wind, his presence calm and unnervingly powerful.

His eyes glowed faintly red in the moonlight.

Sienna whispered in fear.

"Who… is that?"

The hunters looked terrified.

One of them gasped.

"No… it can't be."

The scarred leader's confidence vanished.

"Retreat."

The new man stopped a few steps away from Lyra.

His gaze softened slightly as he looked at her.

For a moment, the entire forest seemed to hold its breath.

Then he spoke.

His voice was deep and smooth.

"So this is the Moonborn."

Kael stepped protectively in front of Lyra.

"Stay back."

The stranger tilted his head slightly.

"And you must be the Alpha who rejected her."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"Who are you?"

The man smiled faintly.

"Someone who has been watching her for a very long time."

The hunters began backing away nervously.

They clearly wanted nothing to do with this newcomer.

One of them whispered urgently.

"We need to leave. Now."

Within seconds, the remaining hunters disappeared into the forest.

Silence fell over the clearing again.

The stranger's attention returned to Lyra.

His red eyes studied her carefully.

Then he spoke softly.

"Silver arrow."

Sienna nodded quickly.

"Yes! Can you help her?!"

Kael growled.

"We don't know who he is."

The stranger ignored him and crouched beside Lyra.

She could barely keep her eyes open now.

But when she looked at him…

Something strange happened.

The power inside her reacted.

Not with fear.

With recognition.

The man gently touched the arrow.

"This will hurt," he said quietly.

With one swift movement—

He pulled it out.

Lyra screamed.

Then everything went dark.

Her body collapsed.

Kael caught her before she hit the ground.

Panic filled his voice.

"Lyra!"

The stranger stood calmly.

"She'll live."

Kael glared at him.

"You still haven't answered my question."

The man's faint smile returned.

"My name is Darius."

The wolves around them shifted uneasily.

Even Kael's wolf growled in warning.

Because there was something unnatural about this man.

Something powerful.

Darius looked down at Lyra sleeping in Kael's arms.

His voice became quieter.

"Be careful, Alpha."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Why?"

Darius turned and began walking back toward the forest shadows.

"Because the girl you rejected…"

He glanced over his shoulder, red eyes glowing.

"…may become the most powerful creature this world has ever seen."

Then he disappeared into the darkness.

Leaving Kael with a terrifying thought.

And Lyra unconscious in his arms.

Kael's eyes narrowed. "You… I've seen you before."

The man's lips curved slightly.

"Of course you have, Alpha," he said calmly.

"I've been watching your mate long before you rejected her. You just didn't notice me."

Sienna's breath caught. "Darius…"

Lyra's body trembled slightly, but she didn't speak. The silver energy around her pulsed faintly.

Kael's jaw tightened. "Why didn't you stop them before this?"

Darius's red-tinged eyes softened almost mournfully. "I couldn't intervene directly… not until she was ready to claim what is hers."

The wolves shifted uneasily, sensing the tension between the three. Kael's wolf growled in warning.

Darius glanced at Lyra, then back at Kael. "The girl you rejected may become the most powerful creature this world has ever seen. Don't make this harder than it already is."

He stepped back into the shadows, leaving Kael holding an unconscious Lyra and a forest echoing with the aftermath of the battle.
