I just stared at him. My mind could not keep up with what I had just heard, and the weight of his words sat heavily in my chest, pressing down like something I could not push away. He was threatening me, not loudly, and not with anger. But it was there, clear and cold, and it made my stomach twist.
"I…" I tried to speak, but nothing came out.
He did not wait for me.
"Rest properly," he said, his tone final, like the conversation was already over. "Do not make things worse for yourself."
Then he turned just like that and walked out. The door closed behind him, leaving the room too quiet, too empty, like the air had been pulled out with him.
For a moment, I did not move. Then slowly, I pushed myself up, my hands gripping the sheets as my chest tightened.
"What have I gotten myself into…" I whispered.
