Chapter 14 - where she misses

CHAPTER — FRAGMENTS

Jayjay's POV

I wasn't expecting it.

Not from him.

I walked into my room slowly, closing the door behind me.

And then—

I stopped.

On the table—

A small plate.

My favorite.

I stared at it, confused.

I hadn't asked for anything.

Slowly, I stepped closer.

Still warm.

Fresh.

My fingers hovered over it.

Did he…?

A knock.

I turned.

The door opened slightly.

Keifer Watson stood there.

"You didn't eat properly earlier," he said.

I blinked.

So it was him.

"You didn't have to," I said quietly.

A pause.

"I know."

Then why did you…?

I didn't ask.

"…Thank you," I said softly.

The words felt strange coming out of me.

Different.

He didn't respond immediately.

Just watched me.

"Eat before it gets cold," he muttered.

I nodded slightly.

He stayed for a second longer, like he wanted to say something.

But didn't.

Then he left.

The door closed.

And I stood there, still staring at the plate.

My chest felt tight.

Why is he doing this…?

Slowly, I sat down and took a bite.

And I hated it.

Not the food—

But the way it made me feel.

Because for a second…

It felt nice.

Too nice.

But then I remembered

The kiss

The way he ignored me

The way he made me feel like I didn't matter

"This doesn't change anything," I whispered.

But my voice didn't sound convincing.

At all.

Silence filled the room.

My eyes slowly drifted—

To the drawer.

I hesitated.

Then reached for it.

Opened it slowly.

And took it out.

The photo.

My fingers trembled slightly as I held it.

A soft breath left me.

"…Liam."

My chest tightened instantly.

I sat there, staring at the picture.

"You would've laughed at this," I whispered.

A small, broken smile formed.

"Me… like this."

Silence.

"He's trying now," I said softly.

My grip tightened slightly.

"And I hate it."

My voice cracked.

"I hate that it's working."

Tears filled my eyes.

"I hate that I don't know what to feel anymore."

I wiped my cheek, but more tears followed.

"Why did you leave me?"

The question came out softer.

More fragile.

"I didn't ask for this…"

My breathing turned uneven.

"You were supposed to stay."

"You said you would…"

My voice broke completely this time.

"I hate this life."

"I hate this house… this marriage…"

"I hate feeling like this."

Tears fell quietly.

"And the worst part…"

I let out a broken laugh.

"I think I'm starting to forget how it felt… when you were here."

That hurt the most.

"I don't want to forget you," I whispered.

"…so don't let me."

Silence answered me.

Like always.

After a while, I wiped my tears slowly.

Carefully, I placed the photo back into the drawer.

Like it still mattered.

Because it did.

I lay down on the bed, turning to my side, pulling the blanket closer.

Exhaustion slowly took over.

And this time—

I didn't fight it.

Keifer's POV

I wasn't planning to stop.

I was just walking past her room.

But then—

"I hate this life."

My steps slowed.

Something about her voice made me pause.

"I hate this house… this marriage…"

My jaw tightened slightly.

Silence followed.

Then—

"You were supposed to stay…"

I frowned.

Stay?

"You said you would…"

Her voice broke.

And something in my chest didn't sit right.

I stood there.

Outside her door.

Not moving.

"…Liam."

The name made me go completely still.

Liam.

Who is that?

"I don't want to forget you…"

Forget?

My hand clenched slightly at my side.

I didn't hear everything.

Just pieces.

Fragments.

But it was enough.

Enough to understand one thing—

There's someone.

Someone she lost.

Someone she still hasn't let go of.

I exhaled slowly, stepping back quietly.

I shouldn't be here.

Shouldn't be listening.

But I couldn't ignore it either.

I walked away.

But the name stayed in my mind.

Liam.

And for the first time—

I felt something unexpected.

Not anger.

Not exactly.

Something quieter.

Sharper.

Jealousy.

Of someone who isn't even here.

Because whoever he was—

He still has a place in her heart.

One I haven't reached.

And don't understand.

Yet.

But I will.

Because now—

I want to know.

Not just who he was.

But why—

She still sounds like she belongs to him.
