CHAPTER — STAY
Jayjay's POV
The house felt too quiet.
I couldn't sleep.
I tried.
I really did.
But every time I closed my eyes, my mind wandered back to him.
To his voice.
To the way he looked at me.
To the way things were… changing.
I sighed softly and sat up.
Checking the time again.
Late.
Too late.
My brows furrowed slightly.
Where is he…
I shook my head.
Why did it matter?
He could take care of himself.
He always did.
Still—
I got out of bed.
Walked out.
Sat in the living room.
Just for a bit.
Just until I felt sleepy.
That's what I told myself.
But I didn't move.
Minutes passed.
Then more.
My eyes kept drifting to the door.
Without me realizing.
Then—
The sound of it opening.
My heart skipped.
I stood up immediately.
And then I saw him.
Keifer Watson
He stepped in slowly.
Tired.
Quiet.
His shirt slightly torn.
And—
My breath caught.
Blood.
Not a lot.
But enough.
"You're hurt…"
My voice came out softer than I expected.
He looked at me.
Almost surprised.
"It's nothing."
Like it didn't matter.
Like he was used to it.
My chest tightened.
"It is."
I walked toward him.
Without thinking.
My fingers gently wrapped around his arm.
Warm.
Real.
"Sit."
This time—
He didn't argue.
He just watched me.
Then slowly—
He sat down.
I went to get the first aid kit.
Came back quickly.
Kneeling in front of him.
My hands weren't steady.
I noticed it.
But I didn't stop.
I focused on the wound.
Cleaning it gently.
Carefully.
Like I was afraid to hurt him more.
The room was quiet.
But not empty.
I could feel his gaze on me.
Constant.
But I didn't look up.
If I did—
I didn't know what I'd see.
"You should be more careful…" I whispered.
Soft.
Barely there.
But it came from somewhere deep.
My fingers slowed.
Without reason.
Or maybe—
Because I didn't want the moment to end.
When I finished, I stayed there for a second.
Just… close.
"…It's done," I said softly.
I moved to stand.
But then—
His hand wrapped gently around my wrist.
Not tight.
Just enough to stop me.
I stilled.
My breath catching slightly.
"You waited."
His voice was quiet.
Lower than usual.
Not cold.
Not distant.
Just… soft.
I looked away.
"I couldn't sleep."
A lie.
A weak one.
We both knew it.
Silence.
His hand didn't leave my wrist.
Then slowly—
It loosened.
Sliding down.
Fingers brushing mine.
Hesitant.
Careful.
Like he wasn't used to this.
And maybe—
He wasn't.
I looked at him.
And this time—
He didn't look away.
There was something in his eyes.
Something quiet.
Something… unfamiliar.
Like no one had ever taken care of him like this before.
And that realization—
It softened something in me.
Without thinking—
My fingers curled slightly around his.
A small movement.
But it meant more than words.
His hand stilled.
Then gently—
Held mine back.
Warm.
Careful.
Like I might disappear.
"…You should rest," I said softly.
He didn't answer immediately.
Just looked at me.
Then—
"Stay."
My breath caught.
It wasn't a command.
It wasn't control.
It was… quiet.
Almost unsure.
And that made it harder to refuse.
I hesitated.
Then slowly—
I nodded.
"…Okay."
We walked to his room in silence.
Not awkward.
Not heavy.
Just… calm.
I lay down on one side.
Careful.
Aware.
He lay beside me.
Not too close.
Not touching.
Just there.
For a moment—
Nothing.
Then—
A small shift.
The bed dipped slightly.
And before I could think—
His arm moved.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Wrapping around my waist 🤍🫧
My breath caught.
Not tight.
Not pulling.
Just… resting there.
Like he was unsure if it was okay.
Like he was giving me time to move away.
But I didn't.
I stayed still for a second.
Feeling it.
The warmth.
The closeness.
His hand resting gently against me.
Not demanding.
Not controlling.
Just… there.
My fingers moved slightly.
Finding his hand.
Resting over it.
A quiet answer.
A silent it's okay.
I felt him still behind me.
Then—
just a little—
he moved closer.
Not too much.
Just enough.
His presence warm against me.
Safe.
My breathing slowed.
My body relaxing without me realizing.
And for the first time—
that closeness didn't scare me.
It didn't feel overwhelming.
It felt…
comforting.
I closed my eyes slowly.
Letting myself sink into it.
Into the quiet.
Into him.
And sometime between that moment—
and sleep—
I realized something I didn't want to admit yet.
I wasn't afraid of him anymore. 🤍🫧
