Chapter 30 - The Great Eastern Wall (1)

A day later…

The far-eastern side of Novopangea rumbled with an unwavering, eternal fury. A gargantuan blue wall stood between the raging seas and the eroding land, stretching across the eastern coast like a stone serpent.

Its height grazed the clouds above, bearing the assault of the endless rain and hail that fell from the enraged heavens.

Suddenly, countless lightning bolts shot out from the thunderous nimbuses. However, they all fell upon the numerous lightning rods placed on the great wall that redirected the electricity to power the technology of the structure.

The front of the colossal stone serpent braced itself as an enormous wave crashed into it. Yet, the wall didn't break, holding back the sea that dared to consume the land.

Countless towers stood on the front of the serpentine stone giant, filled with mundane soldiers who watched for any creatures that tried to scale the wall. Between those towers, thick, spinning metallic shells rested with multiple long black barrels poking out of them.

Suddenly, one snapped to the left, seemingly tracking something in the dark waters. The next second, a strange sea creature leapt out of the darkness.

It looked… strange. No, murderous would be a better word to describe the creature.

It's crimsons eyes burned like that of the Chaos beasts, it's skin a deep blue a shade away from true darkness that allowed it blend perfectly with the rumbling waters.

Baring its jagged fangs, it screeched as it approached the metal shell.

However, the shell snapped towards it, loading itself and firing countless bullets that shredded the poor creature into oblivion.

Atop the Great Eastern Wall, a small yet thick metal dome was situated in the very middle of the structure. In the absolute darkness of its interior, there was a highly-advanced monitoring setup in the shape of a scorpion…

And within it, a youthful individual rested in the machine with headset stuck to his head, his hands gripping two joysticks and moving them with precision.

Wearing a long dark blue coat with a uniform of the same color underneath, he lazily pushed the joysticks around as though tired to the constant rainfall.

He was the General of The Great Eastern Wall – Albert Roosevelt.

In his vision, he saw holographic screens spread across his visor. Each one containing information about different parts of the Great Eastern Wall.

Suddenly, the General received an E-mail. Momentarily taken back, Albert stared at the notification for a while before clicking on it.

Subject: Delay of the Forbidden Continent Expedition

Dear General of The Great Eastern Wall,

I am most disappointed to inform you that the expedition to the Forbidden Continent has been delayed due to rising tension between Rome and Ashland. As you heard from the recent news, REOC's Black Ops entered Ashland to capture an affiliated drug lord without the clearance of Ashland, which has caused their relationship to be strained.

This has also caused the First unit of the AEOC's Special Ops Division to lose half its members. Through a discussion between the Supreme Commanders of both branches, it's been decided that the PEOC will replace the REOC on this expedition. The Supreme Commander of the PEOC will go on this expedition instead of me.

I hope you can understand our situation and act accordingly.

Dante Deus Augustus

Supreme Commander of the REOC

"The shit?" Albert blurted.

He reread the e-mail, making sure he wasn't seeing things. Then, he leaned back and heaved a heavy sigh.

"Damn… what the hell is going on in the world?"

Tightening his grip on the joysticks, he pushed the email out of his sight and muttered in a low voice.

"I'll tell Isaac later."

After a few hours…

Beyond the clouds covering the sky, the sun finally set. Checking the time on a holographic screen, Albert connected his comms to the Lieutenant General.

"…Lieutenant General, please make your way to the Scorpion – 017 immediately."

Then, he paused and added tiredly.

"You know the rest."

The headset that was wrapped around his head released him from its grip, allowing him to see once more. His face was shrouded in the darkness as he stepped out of the machine, making his way to a small cylindrical vessel behind the Scorpion – 017.

The steel doors of the vessel slammed shut as he entered. Bracing himself, Albert crossed his arms and closed his eyes. The lift shot down from the dome and into the base of the tower.

After a few seconds, movement stopped and the metallic gates split open. Opening one eye, the General was blinded by rays of artificial light.

Finally, his true appearance could be seen.

Rough blonde hair, pale white skin and sky-blue eyes with dark bags painted just below them as if he hadn't slept properly in a long time. He adjusted his long coat, its silver epaulettes glistening and brushing against the dark blue fabric.

Around him, several men dressed in white lab coats were constantly monitoring the environment of The Great Eastern Wall. The monitors that displayed that information were covered in numbers and footage of different places across the serpentine structure.

Albert picked up his cap and placed it on his head as he exited the control room. He strolled down the long, desolate corridor for a few minutes. Then, he arrived at an elevator. Entering the lift, he tucked his hands into his pockets as the doors closed behind him.

After a few seconds, he arrived at the base of the serpentine wall and walked out of the elevator from the opposite side, stepping into a massive expanse.

There, in the massive empty space, he saw a massive ship sitting above an empty harbor supported by steel framework. Albert elevated his head slightly and saw several workers working on the ship, all of them drenched in sweat and oil.

Approaching the ship, he took a deep breath and called out to the lead engineer.

"Isaac!"

The dark eyes of a certain bald man widened. Straightening, he spun around and saw that the General was calling him.

"Ahh… What brings you here today, General?" Isaac asked with a hoarse voice, softly pulling his thick beard as he approached.

"I've got some bad news." Albert lamented.

"What? What is it?" Isaac furrowed his brows.

Albert sighed, pulling his hand and scratching his nape.

"Well… the expedition's been postponed."

Isaac froze and then blurted

"What?"

"Yes, the Supreme Commander told me that 10 enforcers died from the AEOC's First unit ,so… The expedition has been postponed until the First unit has recovered." Albert confirmed.

"Ah…That's a bummer." Isaac sighed.

"Also, the PEOC is going on this expedition instead of the REOC. Something happened between Rome and Ashland." Albert added.

"What in God's good name is going on out there?"

Albert burst into laughter, slightly covering his mouth.

"Who knows? It's not like the news reaches this God-forsaken place."
