Chapter 15 - QUIET SHIFTS

The forest had returned to silence.

But the aftermath of the duel lingered in the air like an invisible pressure.

Students stood scattered, whispering among themselves, their attention repeatedly shifting toward Luxe.

"…That duel was not even close to equal by the end, because he controlled everything completely," one student said. "It felt like Leonhardt was fighting within a pace that Luxe decided from the very beginning."

"…And the most unsettling part is that he never looked pressured or forced to react," another added. "It was like he already knew how the fight would unfold before it even started."

Luxe stood quietly, his expression unchanged, as if none of it concerned him.

"…Their perception is forming faster than expected, which means attention will increase from multiple directions," he said calmly. "That will create both opportunities and complications depending on how it is handled."

Lumi stood beside him, her gaze scanning the surroundings carefully.

"…The number of observers has increased significantly, and not all of them appear friendly or neutral," she said. "Some of them are already evaluating you as either a potential ally or a threat."

Luxe gave a faint nod.

"…That is inevitable," he replied. "Strength naturally attracts attention, and attention always leads to conflict in environments like this."

Leonhardt approached from the side, his expression calmer than before.

"…You didn't just win that duel, you controlled it entirely from beginning to end," he said. "I underestimated how much experience you actually have in combat situations."

Luxe looked at him briefly.

"…And you relied too much on overwhelming force without adjusting your approach when the situation changed," he replied. "That is why you lost control of the fight gradually."

Leonhardt smirked slightly.

"…Then next time, I will adapt faster and break that control before you establish it completely," he said. "I don't plan on losing the same way twice."

Luxe gave a faint nod.

"…That would make the next fight more interesting," he said. "Because predictable opponents become less useful over time."

Leonhardt laughed softly.

"…Good," he said. "Then I'll make sure I'm not predictable next time."

As Leonhardt walked away—

Christy stepped forward slowly.

"…That was not just a victory, it was complete dominance over the flow of the battle," she said. "You didn't simply defeat him, you dictated every movement he made."

Luxe met her gaze.

"…That was necessary," he replied. "If I allowed the fight to become uncontrolled, the outcome would have been less certain."

Christy studied him carefully.

"…You always speak as if every action has already been calculated before it happens," she said. "It makes it difficult to understand whether you are reacting or simply following a plan."

Luxe paused briefly.

"…I prepare as much as possible, but not everything can be predicted," he said. "The important part is adapting quickly when something unexpected happens."

Christy smiled faintly.

"…That sounds reasonable, but it still feels like you are always one step ahead of everyone else," she said. "It makes it difficult for others to catch up to your way of thinking."

Luxe gave a faint smile.

"…Then perhaps they should stop trying to catch up and start thinking differently instead," he said. "Following others rarely leads to real progress."

Christy looked at him for a moment—

Then laughed softly.

"…You really are difficult to read," she said. "But that makes conversations with you more interesting than usual."

A brief silence passed between them.

Not awkward.

But calm.

Christy spoke again.

"…During the fight, you didn't just focus on winning, you were analyzing him constantly," she said. "Even your final strike felt more like a conclusion than a desperate attempt."

Luxe nodded slightly.

"…Because rushing for victory creates unnecessary risks," he replied. "It's better to control the situation until the result becomes inevitable."

Christy's expression softened slightly.

"…That way of thinking is both reassuring and slightly unsettling at the same time," she said. "It feels like you carry more responsibility than someone your age should."

Luxe looked at her quietly.

"…Maybe I just prefer not making avoidable mistakes," he said.

Christy stepped a little closer.

"…Then let me ask you something more directly," she said softly. "Do you always handle everything alone, or do you ever rely on others?"

Luxe paused.

For a moment—

He didn't answer immediately.

"…I rely on others when it is necessary," he said finally. "But I make sure that I am not completely dependent on them."

Christy nodded slowly.

"…That makes sense, but it also sounds like you are trying to protect yourself from something," she said. "People who think like that usually have a reason behind it."

Luxe looked away slightly.

"…Maybe," he said quietly.

Christy smiled gently.

"…Then I'll make this simple," she said. "You don't have to handle everything alone when I'm around."

Luxe looked at her again.

"…That sounds like a promise," he said.

Christy met his gaze.

"…It is," she replied.

From a distance—

Kael watched silently.

"…Their interaction is interesting," he muttered quietly. "Trust forming early between strong individuals can either become an advantage or a weakness."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"…It depends on how it is used."

Meanwhile—

Inside the academy main building—

Several nobles gathered in a private room.

"…The Crown Prince's performance during the duel has already shifted attention across multiple factions," one said. "If this continues, his influence will grow rapidly within the academy."

Another nodded.

"…And that will disrupt existing power balances among noble families," he said. "Some will try to align with him, while others may attempt to suppress his growth."

A third spoke quietly.

"…Then the question is whether we approach him as an ally or treat him as a future threat," he said. "Because ignoring him is no longer an option."

Back outside—

Lumi stepped closer to Luxe.

"…Your influence has already begun to affect the internal structure of the academy," she said quietly. "Even individuals outside your immediate circle are reacting to your actions."

Luxe nodded slightly.

"…That was expected," he replied. "Now the real challenge is controlling how that influence develops."

Christy looked toward the academy building.

"…It seems things are going to become more complicated from this point onward," she said. "This place is not just about training, it's about positioning and decisions."

Luxe followed her gaze.

"…Yes," he said. "And every decision from now on will carry consequences beyond just personal growth."

Christy turned back to him.

"…Then we should be careful," she said. "Because once things start moving, it may be difficult to stop them."

Luxe gave a faint smile.

"…That's exactly why we move carefully, not slowly," he replied.

The sun began to set.

Casting long shadows across the academy grounds.

Luxe stood still for a moment.

"…Everything is beginning to shift," he said quietly. "And this is only the beginning."

Christy stood beside him.

"…Then we face it together," she said softly.

Luxe glanced at her.

"…Yes."

The academy—

Was no longer just a place of learning.

It had become—

A battlefield.
