Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The World That Remembers

The figure disappeared beyond the horizon.

Not in a flash.

Not like something unreal.

It simply… walked away.

As if it had always belonged there.

Silence returned.

But it wasn't the same silence as before.

It carried something new.

A trace.

A memory.

Leon exhaled slowly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"…Okay."

"…That just happened."

Asad didn't respond immediately.

His eyes were still fixed on the horizon where the figure had vanished.

"…Yeah."

Leon looked at him.

"…You're not even surprised, are you?"

A faint smirk appeared on Asad's face.

"…I am."

A pause.

"…I'm just not resisting it."

Leon sighed.

"…Man, I need to learn that."

A soft breeze passed again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Warmer.

Heavier.

Leon frowned slightly.

"…You feel that?"

Asad nodded.

"…Yeah."

"…The world changed again."

Leon looked around carefully.

Everything seemed normal.

The sky was still blue.

The mountains still stood in the distance.

Nothing looked broken.

"…It feels more… real."

Asad finally looked down at his hands.

"…Because it is."

Leon raised an eyebrow.

"…Didn't it already feel real?"

Asad shook his head slowly.

"…Before, it was reacting."

"…Now…"

A small pause.

"…It's remembering."

Leon blinked.

"…Remembering?"

Asad crouched slightly, placing his hand on the ground again.

This time—

There was no pulse.

No sudden reaction.

Just…

Warmth.

Steady.

Calm.

"…It learned from what we did."

Leon crossed his arms.

"…So it's not just copying anymore."

Asad nodded.

"…Yeah."

"…It's keeping it."

That thought lingered.

Leon looked toward the horizon again.

"…So that thing we created…"

"…It's part of the world now?"

Asad stood up.

"…Not created."

"…Guided."

Leon smirked slightly.

"…Right."

"…Big difference."

A moment of silence passed.

Then—

Leon's expression shifted.

"…Wait."

Asad immediately noticed.

"…What?"

Leon pointed ahead.

"…That wasn't there before."

Asad turned.

And froze.

In the distance—

Something stood.

A structure.

Tall.

Sharp.

Perfectly still.

It hadn't formed like the others.

It hadn't shifted or glitched.

It was already complete.

Asad's eyes narrowed.

"…That's new."

Leon frowned.

"…And I don't think we made that."

The air grew slightly colder.

Subtle.

But noticeable.

Asad started walking again.

"…Only one way to find out."

Leon followed quickly.

"…Yeah, because walking toward unknown things has worked out great so far."

Asad smirked faintly.

"…It has, actually."

As they moved closer—

The structure became clearer.

A tower.

Dark.

Smooth.

Almost… unnatural.

No cracks.

No shifting.

No life.

Leon slowed down.

"…I don't like this one."

Asad's expression turned serious.

"…This isn't like the rest."

Leon glanced at him.

"…Meaning?"

Asad stopped a few steps away from the tower.

"…This didn't come from the world."

A pause.

"…It came from intention."

Leon's eyes narrowed.

"…Someone else's?"

Asad didn't answer.

He stepped closer.

The moment he did—

The air changed.

Not violently.

But sharply.

Like crossing an invisible line.

Leon felt it instantly.

"…Okay, yeah. Definitely someone else."

The tower stood silent.

But it didn't feel empty.

It felt…

Occupied.

Asad raised his hand slightly—

And placed it against the surface.

Cold.

Unresponsive.

No pulse.

No connection.

Nothing.

For the first time—

The world didn't answer him.

Leon noticed immediately.

"…It's not reacting."

Asad's voice dropped slightly.

"…No."

"…It's resisting."

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Different.

Leon took a step back.

"…So what is this?"

Asad stared at the tower.

His eyes sharp.

Focused.

"…Proof."

Leon frowned.

"…Of what?"

Asad's answer was quiet.

But clear.

"…That we're not the only ones shaping this world."

A faint sound echoed from within the tower.

Not loud.

But enough.

A signal.

A presence.

Awake.

Watching.

Waiting.

Leon clenched his fists slightly.

"…I knew that 'almost writer' wasn't just watching."

Asad didn't look away.

"…Yeah."

A small pause.

Then—

"…And I think we just found their mark."

The wind stopped again.

The sky remained clear.

But the feeling—

It changed.

Because this time—

The world wasn't responding to them.

It was…

Holding its breath. 🔥
