Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Beyond the Edge of Existence

The moment they crossed, everything went silent.

Not the peaceful kind of silence they had experienced before—

But something deeper.

Something that felt like the absence of sound itself.

Leon stopped immediately.

"…Okay."

"…This is new."

Asad stood beside him, eyes scanning the surroundings.

"…Yeah."

But there was nothing to scan.

No sky.

No ground.

No light.

Just—

Presence.

They weren't standing.

They weren't falling.

They were simply…

existing.

Leon looked down.

"…I can't even tell where I am."

Asad replied calmly.

"…Because 'where' doesn't apply here."

Leon frowned.

"…That's not comforting at all."

A faint shift occurred around them.

Not visible.

But felt.

Like something acknowledged their presence.

Asad's gaze sharpened.

"…It's reacting again."

Leon sighed.

"…Of course it is."

Then—

a voice.

Not loud.

Not echoing.

Just… clear.

"…You came."

Leon tensed.

"…Alright, seriously…"

"…Can we stop with the random voices already?!"

Asad raised a hand slightly.

"…Wait."

The voice spoke again.

"…You stepped beyond your story."

A pause.

"…And yet…"

"…you still move like you belong somewhere."

Leon looked around.

"…Where are you?! Show yourself!"

Silence.

Then—

a shape began to form.

Not like before.

Not from darkness.

Not from light.

But from…

nothing.

Slowly.

A figure appeared.

Not human.

But familiar.

It didn't have clear edges.

But it had presence.

Leon squinted.

"…What is that supposed to be?"

Asad didn't answer immediately.

He studied it carefully.

"…It's not a being."

A pause.

"…It's a state."

Leon blinked.

"…A state of what?"

The figure spoke.

"…Of everything that exists… before it is defined."

Silence.

Heavy.

Leon scratched his head.

"…Yeah, that makes zero sense."

Asad's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…It makes perfect sense."

Leon looked at him.

"…Of course it does."

The figure tilted slightly.

"…You understand."

Asad nodded once.

"…This place isn't part of any story."

"…It's what comes before stories."

Leon crossed his arms.

"…So we went from inside a story…"

"…to outside it…"

"…and now we're in… what? The pre-story?"

Asad replied simply.

"…Yes."

Leon exhaled.

"…That's getting worse."

The figure moved slightly.

Not walking.

Not floating.

But shifting.

Closer.

"…You are interesting."

It looked at both of them.

"…Two beings who escaped definition."

Leon raised an eyebrow.

"…Escaped definition?"

Asad responded.

"…We broke out of being controlled."

The figure nodded.

"…And yet…"

A pause.

"…You still define yourselves."

Leon frowned.

"…What's that supposed to mean?"

Asad looked at his hands.

Then at Leon.

"…We still think of ourselves as something."

"…Main character."

"…Story."

"…Entity."

Leon slowly realized.

"…So we're still… limiting ourselves?"

Asad nodded slightly.

"…Yeah."

The figure's presence intensified slightly.

"…Then let me ask you."

A pause.

"…What are you… without that?"

Silence.

Deep.

Uncomfortable.

Leon looked at Asad.

"…Don't look at me."

"…I was hoping you'd answer that."

Asad didn't speak immediately.

For once—

he didn't have a quick answer.

Because this place…

Was testing something deeper.

Not strength.

Not intelligence.

But identity.

Asad finally spoke.

"…We are what we choose to be."

The figure paused.

"…Choice."

Leon smirked faintly.

"…That's our thing."

Asad continued.

"…Even here."

"…Even without a story."

"…We still choose."

The space shifted again.

But this time—

it didn't feel like a reaction.

It felt like…

approval.

The figure slowly stepped back.

"…Then you are not lost."

A pause.

"…You are early."

Leon frowned.

"…Early for what?"

The figure turned slightly.

"…For what comes next."

Suddenly—

the space began to shift.

Not breaking.

Not forming.

But expanding.

Beyond sight.

Beyond understanding.

Asad's eyes narrowed.

"…Something's coming."

Leon immediately became alert.

"…Again?!"

The figure didn't move.

"…Not something."

A pause.

"…Someone."

Leon's expression changed.

"…That 'someone' again?"

The figure's voice lowered.

"…No."

"…Something far older."

A deep silence followed.

And for the first time—

even the pre-space itself seemed to react.

Not afraid.

But… attentive.

Asad stepped forward slightly.

"…Then we'll meet it."

Leon smirked.

"…Of course we will."

The figure looked at them one last time.

"…Then proceed."

"…But understand this."

A pause.

"…This is no longer a test."

Leon narrowed his eyes.

"…Then what is it?"

The figure answered.

"…A meeting."

The space opened.

And something—

began to approach.

Not from a direction.

But from existence itself.

And this time—

even Asad felt it.

Not fear.

But…

importance.

Because whatever was coming next—

was no longer just part of their journey.

It was something that had been waiting…

since before the story ever began.
