Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The One Before Everything

The space trembled.

Not violently.

But deeply.

Like something vast had shifted its attention toward them.

Leon felt it instantly.

"…Yeah."

"…That's definitely not normal."

Asad didn't speak.

His eyes were fixed ahead.

Watching.

Waiting.

Because now—

whatever was coming…

was no longer hidden.

It was arriving.

Slowly.

A presence emerged.

Not forming like before.

Not appearing.

But becoming noticeable.

Step by step.

As if reality itself was adjusting to allow it to exist.

Leon whispered—

"…Okay… that's… new."

The figure beside them—the one that existed as a state—faded slightly.

Not leaving.

Just…

making space.

Asad's expression sharpened.

"…This is different."

Leon nodded.

"…Yeah."

"…I can feel it too."

The air—or what passed as air here—

became heavier.

Not pressure.

But significance.

Then—

it spoke.

"…So you reached this far."

The voice wasn't loud.

But it filled everything.

Not echoing.

But existing everywhere at once.

Leon froze.

"…Alright…"

"…That voice is way too calm."

Asad stepped forward slightly.

"…You're the one before everything."

A pause.

Then—

a faint response.

"…Before?"

"…No."

The presence shifted.

"…I am what remains when 'before' and 'after' lose meaning."

Silence.

Leon frowned.

"…That makes absolutely no sense."

Asad didn't look away.

"…It does."

Leon looked at him.

"…Of course it does."

The presence continued.

"…You stand in a place where existence is not defined."

"…Yet you still try to define yourself."

A pause.

"…Why?"

Asad answered calmly.

"…Because we can."

Leon smirked slightly.

"…Yeah."

"…That's kinda our thing."

The presence remained silent for a moment.

Then—

"…Interesting."

A shift.

The space around them compressed slightly.

Not crushing.

But focusing.

Like everything was being observed at once.

Leon clenched his fists.

"…This feels like something is measuring us."

Asad nodded.

"…It is."

The presence spoke again.

"…You call yourselves free."

A pause.

"…But freedom without understanding…"

"…is incomplete."

Leon raised an eyebrow.

"…And what do you suggest? We just accept whatever this is?"

The presence didn't respond immediately.

Then—

"…No."

"…I suggest you evolve."

Silence.

Heavy.

Asad's eyes narrowed.

"…Evolve into what?"

The presence answered calmly.

"…Into something that no longer needs to question its existence."

Leon blinked.

"…That sounds suspiciously like losing yourself."

Asad spoke before the presence could respond.

"…We won't lose ourselves."

A pause.

"…We'll refine ourselves."

The presence went quiet.

For a moment—

even it seemed to pause.

Then—

"…Refine."

A faint shift.

"…Not a bad answer."

Leon glanced at Asad.

"…You're really good at this whole talking thing."

Asad smirked slightly.

"…You're not bad either."

The presence spoke again.

"…Then let us proceed."

The space around them began to change.

Not collapsing.

Not expanding.

But transitioning.

A path formed.

Not forward.

Not backward.

But… inward.

Leon frowned.

"…Inward?"

Asad nodded slowly.

"…Yeah."

"…This isn't about distance."

"…It's about understanding."

The presence added—

"…About what lies within you."

Leon sighed.

"…Great."

"…Now we're going inside ourselves."

Asad started walking.

"…We've been doing that since the beginning."

Leon followed.

"…Yeah…"

"…And it keeps getting weirder."

As they moved forward—

the environment began to shift again.

Not into a world.

Not into a void.

But into…

memories.

Fragments appeared.

Scenes.

Moments.

Echoes of what they had been.

Leon stopped suddenly.

"…Wait…"

"…That's… me?"

He looked at a fragment—

of himself.

Older.

Different.

But still him.

Asad noticed too.

"…It's showing possibilities."

Leon frowned.

"…Possibilities?"

The presence's voice echoed softly.

"…Every version of you that could have existed."

Leon's eyes widened slightly.

"…That's… a lot."

Asad stepped forward.

Looking at the fragments.

"…And we chose this path."

Leon smirked faintly.

"…Yeah."

"…And I'd choose it again."

The fragments shimmered.

Responding.

Acknowledging.

The presence spoke again.

"…Then you are not bound by possibility."

A pause.

"…You define it."

Asad nodded.

"…That's the point."

The space began to stabilize again.

The fragments faded.

Not destroyed.

But integrated.

Leon exhaled.

"…Okay…"

"…That was… intense."

The presence began to fade.

But before disappearing—

it spoke one last time.

"…You have passed beyond what most can reach."

A pause.

"…But remember this."

The space grew quiet.

"…Beyond this… there are no more trials."

Leon frowned.

"…Then what is there?"

A long pause.

Then—

"…Only consequences."

Silence.

Deep.

Final.

And then—

the presence vanished.

The space remained.

Still.

But changed.

Leon looked at Asad.

"…So… we're on our own now?"

Asad nodded.

"…Yeah."

A small smile formed on his face.

"…Finally."

Leon laughed softly.

"…You're enjoying this too much."

Asad started walking forward.

"…Because now…"

"…there's no one to test us."

Leon followed.

"…Then what now?"

Asad looked ahead.

Eyes calm.

Focused.

"…Now we create the meaning ourselves."

Leon smirked.

"…Now that's something I can get behind."

And together—

they moved forward.

Not guided.

Not tested.

But choosing.

Because from this point on—

there were no more answers waiting.

Only—

what they would become.
