Chapter 28 - Awakening of the Eclipse

The night air of the plateau had grown heavier, each torch flicker trembling in the sudden silence that fell over the All-Clan Gathering. Nyx's eyes scanned the perimeter, alert to every motion. What had been an uneasy tension now rippled with something darker, something almost alive. Across the plateau, the other clans whispered among themselves, their low voices carrying unease, curiosity, and fear. No one had seen what Nyx had already sensed, yet all would feel it soon.

Without warning, a shadow split from the far edge of the gathering, moving with unnatural speed and silence. The cloaked figure from before had returned, but this time it was larger, darker, radiating an energy that seemed to devour the very light around it. The crowd recoiled instinctively, guardians raising weapons and clan elders stepping forward. But the shadow ignored them entirely. It moved straight toward Nyx, its intent clear, its eyes—if it had any—locked on him alone.

Kael stiffened beside Nyx, his hand gripping the hilt of his blade. "It… it's coming for you," he whispered.

Nyx's calm mask didn't falter, but inside, his senses screamed. "It recognizes me," he said, his voice low, almost inaudible. "It knows… it knows what I am."

The shadow halted just beyond the circle of torches, the heat from the fires seeming to bend around it. The very air shivered, and a strange hum filled the plateau, vibrating in the bones of every observer. The clans felt it, even if they could not name it. Something beyond normal cultivation, beyond Spirit Energy, had manifested.

Nyx felt a pull in his chest, a hunger he could not name. His body tensed, veins darkening as if ink had spread beneath his skin. The shadow pulsed, a distortion in reality itself, and without thinking, Nyx extended his hands instinctively. A surge of energy erupted from him, dark and swirling, the air warping around his form. Where he moved, light bent, and space itself seemed to hesitate.

The shadow shrieked—a sound without tone, a vibration that rattled teeth and eardrums—and lunged. But Nyx did not dodge. He absorbed it.

The energy collided with him, massive and chaotic, and instead of being destroyed, Nyx's body devoured it. Flames of black and silver licked at the ground as the fragment's power poured into him, twisting and reforming his inner essence. Kael staggered back, eyes wide. "Nyx! That's… insane! You're taking it in!" he shouted.

Nyx's vision blurred. A voice whispered in his mind, older than time, cold and hungry: "You are the vessel. You are the Eclipse." His body shivered violently as a pulse radiated outward, knocking guards off their feet and sending torches sputtering. He fell to one knee, breathing hard, his chest rising and falling like a storm. The power coursing through him was not Spirit Energy, nor any cultivation he had ever known. It was alive, intelligent, demanding, and it recognized him as its rightful host.

The clans gasped, fear and awe intermingling. The Hoshin leader, Nyx's father, stepped forward, his voice trembling only slightly. "It… it has awakened," he said, eyes narrowing. "So, the spiritless heir was never truly without power…"

From the crowd, the Tsukiyomi leader whispered, almost to herself, "That energy… it shouldn't exist… no mortal can hold it."

Nyx rose, the Eclipse fragment now fully fused with him, his aura stretching outward in waves. The plateau bent under its weight; the ground cracked, the air warped, and shadows twisted unnaturally, reaching for everything nearby. Kael stepped closer, both in awe and concern. "Nyx… are you okay? You're… changing."

Nyx's gaze swept across the clans, his eyes reflecting the black-and-silver storm swirling within him. "I'm fine," he said, voice steady but layered with power that made even the bravest flinch. "This… power is mine. And it will defend me, whether the world accepts it or not."

From the shadows, several figures moved—Hiyori, Raizen, even some neutral clans—all hesitant, measuring, fear coloring every step. They had felt the surge, the devouring essence that Nyx now controlled. Even Kael, who had stood by him for years, had never seen him like this.

The Hiyori leader's eyes widened. "Impossible…" he muttered. "Spiritless… holding the Eclipse…"

"Spiritless?" Nyx repeated aloud, letting a small pulse of energy ripple outward. "I was never spiritless. My body rejected their system because it could not contain this. But now… I can control what even the strongest fear."

The plateau went silent. Even the smallest whispers faded under the sheer presence radiating from Nyx. His power was not just strength. It was comprehension, adaptation, and absolute authority over the forbidden energy that had been whispered about in myths—the Primordial Eclipse.

And Nyx knew, in that moment, that nothing would ever be the same.

The shadow that had attacked initially now knelt before him—not out of submission, but recognition. Others watched, some in awe, some in horror, as Nyx stepped forward, his presence bending reality around him. This was no longer a gathering of clans. It was the stage for a new power hierarchy, one that began and ended with him.

"Prepare yourselves," Nyx said, his voice echoing unnaturally across the plateau. "This power… this Eclipse… will determine who lives and who falls. And I am no longer your spiritless heir. I am the Eclipse, and nothing will stop me."

A single pulse radiated from him, shaking the ground and leaving scorched marks on the surrounding earth. Torches blew out from the force, and shadows stretched unnaturally, as if reality itself had fractured slightly under the weight of his presence. The clans could feel it, each heartbeat echoing the warning: this power was alive, it was hungry, and it was now fully awakened in the body of the one they had all dismissed.

Kael swallowed hard. "Well… that's a lot of power," he muttered, unsure whether to be terrified or inspired.

Nyx's eyes, glowing faintly silver and black, locked on the distant horizon. Somewhere, in the midst of the world's chaos, the real threat lurked. The fragments of the Primordial Eclipse were not done, and the world would soon pay attention. But Nyx didn't flinch. He had been rejected, mocked, and labeled powerless. That was over. Now, every force that had ever doubted him would see the storm rising within him, and they would remember the name of the spiritless heir who devoured darkness itself.

The wind picked up, carrying a strange chill that whispered of things unseen. The clans watched in silence, aware that this was only the beginning. Nyx's body pulsed with the Eclipse, shadows coiling around him like living serpents, and in that instant, the world understood: the spiritless heir had finally risen.
