Chapter 30 - Devour or be Devoured

The wind did not simply blow across the plateau anymore.

It howled.

Not as a natural force, but as if reality itself had begun to strain under pressure it was never meant to contain. The torches that lined the gathering grounds flickered violently, some extinguishing altogether, leaving sections of the plateau swallowed in unnatural darkness. What remained of the light bent strangely, curving toward a single point where Nyx stood.

And in front of him—

The second entity.

It did not rush.

It did not attack.

It advanced slowly, deliberately, as though it had all the time in the world.

"…You… are incomplete…"

The voice echoed again, not through the air, but directly within the minds of everyone present. It carried no emotion, no anger, no urgency—only a cold, undeniable truth.

Nyx's chest tightened.

Not from fear.

But from recognition.

The Eclipse energy within him stirred violently, responding to the entity as if it had found something it had been searching for. A pull formed deep within him, stronger than anything he had felt before. It was no longer just hunger.

It was instinct.

"…You're calling to me," Nyx said quietly.

The entity pulsed.

"…We… return… to whole…"

Kael stepped forward immediately, his voice sharp with urgency. "Nyx, don't even think about it. That thing isn't something you just 'take in' like before."

Nyx didn't look at him.

Because his focus was no longer fully his own.

The ground beneath his feet cracked further, dark fractures spreading outward as the Eclipse energy began to leak from his body. Shadows twisted unnaturally around him, rising and falling like a living tide.

"I don't have a choice," Nyx muttered.

Kael grabbed his arm. "There's always a choice."

Nyx finally turned his head slightly.

"…Not this time."

Across the plateau, the clans watched with growing alarm.

The Hiyori warriors, once eager to challenge Nyx, now held back completely, their confidence shattered by what they were witnessing. The Tsukiyomi leader's expression had darkened, her sharp eyes tracking every movement with precise calculation.

"If he absorbs that," she said quietly, "we may not be able to stop him."

The Raizen leader crossed his arms, his aura rising instinctively. "Then we don't let him."

But even as he said it—

He didn't move.

Because deep down, he understood.

This was beyond them now.

At the center, the Hoshin leader stepped forward again, his presence pressing outward like a barrier against the chaos.

"Nyx," he said firmly. "Step away from it."

Nyx didn't respond.

The Eclipse energy surged again, stronger this time, distorting the space around him. The air bent inward, as though being pulled toward a collapsing point.

"Nyx!" Kael shouted.

But Nyx's voice came out quieter.

"…It's too late."

The entity moved closer.

Step by step.

And with every step, the pressure on the plateau increased.

Warriors struggled to stand.

Guardians lowered their stances.

Even the strongest leaders felt it pressing against them.

Because this—

Was no longer just power.

It was something closer to existence itself being rewritten.

Nyx took a step forward.

Then another.

Each movement slow, controlled, yet inevitable.

His eyes, once clear, now carried a faint glow of black and silver, swirling like a storm trapped beneath the surface.

Inside him—

The voice returned.

"Consume…"

"Become whole…"

Nyx clenched his fist tightly, his breath uneven.

"…If I don't take it," he whispered, "it won't stop."

Kael shook his head. "Then we fight it. Together. That's what we've been doing."

Nyx gave a faint, almost broken smile.

"This… isn't something we can fight."

The moment came without warning.

The entity lunged.

Not with speed—

But with inevitability.

It collapsed inward, its entire form compressing into a dense mass of Eclipse energy before shooting directly toward Nyx.

The world seemed to slow.

Kael moved.

"NYX!"

But he was too far.

The impact—

Was silent.

For a single moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

Everything did.

A violent surge of energy exploded outward from Nyx, tearing across the plateau like a storm unleashed. The ground shattered, cracks splitting wide open as waves of force sent warriors flying backward. Torches were extinguished instantly, plunging the area into darkness broken only by the swirling black-and-silver light emanating from Nyx's body.

He screamed.

Not in pain—

But in resistance.

The energy poured into him, far greater than before, overwhelming, relentless. It forced its way through his veins, his core, his very existence, trying to reshape him from the inside out.

His body trembled violently.

Cracks of dark light spread across his skin like fractures in glass.

"Unite…"

"Complete…"

The voices overlapped now, louder, stronger, no longer whispers.

They demanded.

Nyx dropped to one knee.

His hands slammed into the ground as the pressure inside him surged beyond control.

"…No…" he growled.

The Eclipse energy erupted outward again, stronger than before, distorting everything around him. The air warped, gravity twisted, and for a brief moment—

The plateau itself seemed to bend.

Kael fought against the pressure, forcing himself forward step by step.

"Nyx! Fight it!" he shouted.

Nyx's head snapped up.

His eyes—

Were no longer stable.

One flickered with his normal clarity.

The other—

Swirled with endless darkness.

"…I am fighting," he said, his voice strained, layered with something else beneath it.

At the center, the Hoshin leader raised his hand.

"Everyone, fall back," he ordered.

No one argued.

Because they could feel it.

If this continued—

They wouldn't survive being this close.

Nyx's body convulsed slightly as the Eclipse energy surged again, trying to take full control.

"Let go…"

"Become…"

Nyx clenched his teeth, forcing himself to stand.

"…I am not… a vessel," he said through gritted teeth.

The energy reacted violently.

As if rejecting his defiance.

Then—

Something changed.

Instead of resisting blindly—

Nyx shifted.

His breathing steadied slightly.

His stance stabilized.

And his grip—

Tightened.

"…If you want to become whole…" he said slowly,

"…then you follow my will."

The Eclipse energy surged violently in response.

Rejecting.

Fighting.

Trying to overpower him.

But Nyx didn't break.

Instead—

He pushed back.

The shadows around him compressed inward, no longer spreading wildly, but being pulled under control. The chaotic distortion began to stabilize, not disappearing—but aligning.

The screaming voices—

Began to fade.

For the first time—

The power didn't feel like it was consuming him.

It felt like it was being forced into place.

Nyx stood fully now.

Breathing heavily.

But standing.

The plateau was silent.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Because what they were witnessing—

Should not have been possible.

Nyx lifted his head slowly.

His eyes now fully stabilized—

Black and silver.

Balanced.

Controlled.

"…I decide," he said quietly.

A faint pulse of Eclipse energy spread outward—

Not destructive.

Not chaotic.

But controlled.

And just like that—

The storm ended.

Kael stared at him for a long moment before letting out a breath.

"…Yeah," he muttered. "You're definitely not normal anymore."

Nyx didn't respond.

Because deep down—

He knew.

This wasn't the end.

It was only the beginning.
