The Rise of the Bound One
The chains were no longer holding.
Their glow flickered violently, no longer steady, no longer absolute. Cracks spread across their massive forms like fractures in glass, each one glowing with unstable energy.
The seal—
Was failing.
Heron's body remained suspended in the air, surrounded by spiraling light. The ancient symbols that once covered the ground now burned across his skin, glowing faintly like marks of power etched into his very being.
His breathing was no longer steady.
It came in sharp, uneven bursts.
"I… can't… control it…" he muttered.
The energy around him pulsed again.
Stronger.
Darker.
Below him—
Something moved.
Not slowly this time.
Violently.
A massive force slammed against the chains again.
BOOM!
The entire cavern shook, sending shockwaves through the ground. Stones shattered, fragments falling into the glowing abyss below.
Heron's eyes widened in terror.
"It's breaking free!"
The voice answered immediately.
"Not yet…"
A pause.
"…but soon."
The glowing eyes above burned brighter than ever before, watching everything unfold with growing intensity.
Heron shook his head.
"No… I won't let it happen!"
But even as he said those words—
The symbols on his body flared.
Reacting.
Not to his will—
But to the thing below.
Above the surface—
The gods felt it clearly now.
The land trembled violently, cracks spreading far beyond the village. The sky darkened unnaturally as a heavy pressure filled the air.
Kaelion stumbled slightly, bracing himself.
"This is getting worse!"
Ignivar stepped forward, flames roaring around him.
"We don't have time anymore. If we don't act now, we lose everything."
Veyra's voice trembled slightly. "The earth is breaking… I can't hold it together much longer."
All eyes turned to Aethrion.
He stood still.
Silent.
But his expression—
Had changed.
"We go in," he said.
Kaelion looked up immediately. "Finally."
Thalor stepped forward.
"If we enter now, we risk destroying what remains of the seal."
Aethrion didn't look at him.
"I know."
A pause.
"But if we don't…"
His eyes hardened.
"There will be nothing left to protect."
Back below—
Heron screamed as another surge of energy tore through his body.
It wasn't just pain anymore.
It was transformation.
The symbols spread further across his arms, his chest, even his neck, glowing brighter as if responding to something deep within him.
"No… stop!" he shouted.
But the power didn't listen.
It grew.
Expanded.
The chains below shook again—
And then—
CRACK!
Another one broke.
Heron's heart nearly stopped.
Two chains.
Gone.
The glow beneath intensified violently, bursting upward like a rising storm of energy.
And then—
For the first time—
Something emerged.
Not fully.
But enough.
A massive shape pushed upward from the darkness, forcing its way between the remaining chains. It wasn't clear, not fully visible—but its size alone was overwhelming.
Heron's entire body froze.
"What… is that…?" he whispered.
The voice answered.
"What was forgotten…"
The shape moved again.
Closer.
And for a brief moment—
Heron saw it.
A fragment.
A dark, massive form.
With glowing patterns across its surface.
And eyes—
Burning with ancient fury.
Heron's breath stopped.
"It's alive…"
The creature pushed harder.
The remaining chains strained violently, their light flickering as they struggled to hold.
Above—
The gods acted.
Aethrion raised his hand.
"Now."
Power erupted.
A massive beam of divine energy struck the ground, shattering the surface and forcing an opening into the depths below.
Kaelion didn't hesitate.
He jumped.
Ignivar followed, flames blazing.
Zephyros vanished into the wind.
Veyra and Thalor followed last.
Back below—
Heron felt it immediately.
New energy.
Different.
The gods were coming.
But it didn't feel like relief.
It felt like—
Acceleration.
The voice echoed again.
"Too late…"
Heron looked up sharply.
"What do you mean too late?!"
The chains trembled one final time.
The creature below—
Pulled.
With everything it had.
The ground shattered.
Energy exploded outward.
And suddenly—
Heron's body dropped.
He hit the ground hard, the glowing symbols flickering violently across his skin.
The power around him surged uncontrollably.
"I can't stop it!" he shouted.
The creature below roared—
A sound so deep, so powerful, it shook the entire world above.
And then—
Another chain broke.
Only a few remained.
The glowing eyes above Heron narrowed.
"Choose…"
Heron froze.
"Choose what?"
Silence.
Then—
"Seal… or release…"
Heron's heart pounded violently.
"I don't understand!"
But deep inside—
He did.
The power within him surged again.
Not random.
Not chaotic.
Waiting.
For his decision.
Above—
Aethrion and the others broke into the cavern.
Their eyes widened instantly at the sight.
Heron—
Covered in glowing symbols.
The chains—
Breaking.
And the massive presence below—
Rising.
"HERON!" Kaelion shouted.
Heron looked up.
His eyes—
Glowed.
Not just blue anymore.
Something darker mixed within.
"I… can't hold it…" he said.
The ground beneath him cracked again.
The creature surged upward once more.
And this time—
The chains began to shatter all at once.
