Chapter 7 - Handling The Problem

As I reach the bottom without making a noise my senses notice that one of them is hiding off on the side again. Two of them are about to approach where Lia is while the third is hiding.

I need to really focus if I want to find the third one without alerting the other two. Heartbeats, I can track them based off of how loud their heart is beating.

It'll just take me a moment to adjust to it since I haven't practiced much with it in a long time.

The sound of hearts beating begin to echo within my ears but one is a bit further away from the others. It is a couple of feet to my right, that's where the third one is.

I quietly make my way towards the person furthest away from the group and prepare to put them to sleep. Upon reaching them I notice that they have a crossbow on hand, a bit of silver slightly shining from the bolt.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

Silver. Must be a coincidence for them to be using a silver bolt like this since they didn't know a thing about me. At least it wasn't obvious if they did... Which would be great acting on their parts.

It takes a moment but I manage to move my attention away from the silver and to his neck. My fangs are instinctively coming out and I can feel myself wanting to feed.

Grab!!

Instead of digging my fangs into his throat I grab him and start to subdue him. It only takes a few moments before he finally passes out.

The urge to feed is getting stronger with my lack of food lately, a problem for another day.

My eyes dart back to the others who are now standing in front of Lia, observing what she is wearing now. It is hard to tell if they actually see her or not.

"The tracks end here," the other guy says calmly.

"They wouldn't just disappear here Hal," Aki replies with frustration immediately showing in his voice.

So they were tracking us after we left, how interesting is that. I wonder what reason he has for tracking us in the first place.

Unless it was never about me and it is actually about the elf that joined them, since she isn't human. It is possible that they wanted to use that little play as a way to get her killed.

Vampires might be hated, but elves could be worth money to someone.

I don't like the feeling I'm getting from these people anymore so I'll just handle the problem quickly. They won't be able to track us after this.

RUSH!!!

POW!!!!

Immediately I rush them and slam my foot into the back of the first guys head before sliding around to Aki.

"He-" I cut him off as my fist goes across his face.

THUD!!!

The first guy hits the ground before Aki can even fall back in the slightest. At the moment he is still standing but is a bit stunned, not that it'll matter much.

Drip. Drip.

Blood starts dripping down from his nose.

GRIP!!!

I grab onto my arm as tight as possible as the blood starts to hit the ground, trying to keep myself under control. My heart is racing like crazy and I can feel everything getting more intense by the second.

He won't just leave the two of them behind so I can quickly grab her and rush off. Yes, that is the proper plan for the time being until we get some distance.

I'm trying my best not to just kill them since I don't know what their intentions are with her or even what they might be for me.

I just know I don't want to kill unless it is necessary or they deserve it. Hunters definitely are on that list, but these guys? No.

Immediately I turn around and rush over to Lia.

Upon picking her up I push myself off of the ground, propelling us forward a few feet away from them. As my feet touch the ground I start to run with as much speed as possible.

Often I forget how fast I am, until I realize it with the trees; they are soaring past me as I run with her in my arms, but this speed will slow down when I hit my limit.

Hyup!!!

I start scaling up the side of a cliff and within a few moments I reach the top with a nice flat area before some trees.

"Your eyes are glowing," Lia says softly.

My gaze shifts down to her before sitting her down.

"Just what makes me special I guess," I reply before looking away.

My hand immediately grips my arm once again as the hunger starts to surge through my body. Ignoring it isn't going to do me any good but right now I need to make do.

GRIP!!!

My grip only tightens as the pain grows.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I look down to see that my arm is bleeding from how tight I've been gripping it but this is enough to stop me from doing something stupid.

"I'm realizing I don't know your name," Lia mentions while staring at me.

Well, I can feel her eyes on me.

"Dante," I manage to reply while holding back the pain in my voice.

"Dante. Hmm. I think I've figured out what you are after all," Lia says with a bit of confidence.

I just slightly tilt my head, just barely looking back at her.

"It is very rare but you are a vampire," She says with confidence.

I don't think speaking will do me any good right now since I know what will happen next... I'll have to kill her. Everyone sees us a threat and this is the only way to ensure that I can keep living till I reach my goal.

Mel was different and one of a kind. Lia probably won't be the same, especially since we hardly know each other.

But Mel didn't know me very well either... Not until we spent those two months together.
