Chapter 38
NIKOLAJ'S POV
As I climbed into my car for the morning commute, my mind was stuck on Georgia. I'd wanted to say something—anything—before leaving, but she had been so buried in her typing that she looked practically walled off. I also didn't want to interrupt the tense energy between her and Katsha; they were clearly under massive pressure trying to smooth over the mess Jaime left behind.
Even so, Georgia's refusal to be my friend only fueled my fire. It was a total ego check. Usually, people jump at the chance to be in my circle, but she hadn't even hesitated. The moment the offer left my lips, she looked at me like I was pulling a prank. It stung, sure, but it also made her the most interesting person in my life. From everything Jaime had ever complained about, I expected someone different, but the real Georgia was far more compelling.
When I walked into the office, Tray was already there, hunched over a laptop on the sofa.
"Morning," I said.
