Chapter 41
GEORGIA'S POV
It had been an eternity since I'd felt a laugh bubble up from somewhere real. Laughing with Natalia was different—it felt like stepping into a different timeline, a temporary escape from my current reality. But the second we hung up, the shadows always rushed back in.
Laughing at Nikolaj, however, was the first time light had actually broken through the gloom of my daily life.
It felt incredible to just crack up, but the realization hit me with a wave of guilt. The timing and the person were all wrong. Why was my ex-fiancé's uncle the one making me feel this way?
"Alright, you've had your fun. I'm glad you got all that frustration out, but I think we should head down now," Nikolaj said, gesturing toward the stairs. I glanced over the edge and felt a sudden chill. We were incredibly high up.
