Chapter 39 - Ripple in the Water

Eun-soo stepped out of the warm, steam-filled bathroom, her fatigue finally beginning to wash away as the water carried off the lingering tension of the day.

She moved through the master suite of the top-floor private wing, her reflection caught in the polished mirrors of the dressing area.

Her figure was slender and well-balanced, possessing soft, flowing lines rather than the sharp, rigid angles of her corporate persona.

There was a gentle harmony in her proportions; a narrow waist subtly defined her silhouette, leading into hips that gave her frame a natural, feminine curve.

Her legs were long and refined, lending her an elongated presence that was emphasized by her graceful posture, standing with one foot slightly forward as if in constant, light motion.

Her arms were delicate, resting with an ease that suggested a deep-seated confidence and a comfort in her own skin that required no athletic intensity to prove.

Her overall physique leaned toward an ethereal lightness, the kind of grace shaped by calm routines and a quiet, internal discipline.

Though her body felt heavy with a desire for sleep, the thought of Hajun's bright, curious eyes pulled at her heart, and she found herself wanting to see how he was settling in.

She moved to her wardrobe and selected a light, sky-blue sleeveless dress, its fabric soft against her skin and its cut both elegant and effortless.

After checking her reflection one last time, she stepped into the quiet hallway of the top floor and walked toward the suite where the Seo family was staying.

Standing before the massive double doors, she hesitated, her hand hovering inches away from the wood as she debated whether she was overstepping her role as a teacher.

Just as she decided to turn back and return to the solitude of her own room, the door suddenly swung open, catching her off guard.

Hajun stood there, already changed into tiny swimming trunks and a bright orange life vest, flanked by his grandparents who were prepared for an evening out.

The young boy's face lit up with a gap-toothed grin the moment he saw her. "Teacher! We are going to the swimming pool! Are you coming with us?"

Eun-soo felt a rush of warmth, her hesitation vanishing instantly. "I was just coming to check on you, Hajun. It looks like you're already enjoying your time here."

"Yes, Teacher!" Hajun shouted, pointing back toward the suite windows. "The room is very big, and the view outside is so beautiful! I even saw boats in the sea!"

Eun-soo smiled and turned to offer a polite bow to Jin-ho and Young-sook. "Good evening. I hope the suite is to your liking."

The grandparents greeted her warmly, though Eun-soo couldn't help but scan the area behind them, her heart sinking slightly when she realized Jin-woo was nowhere to be seen.

She quickly shook off the distracting thought, focusing back on the elder Seos. "Let me take you to the pool. I'd like to see it and enjoy the warm water myself."

Young-sook looked at Eun-soo's dress and then back at her husband. "Is it alright for you, Miss Eun-soo? We wouldn't want to take up your private time."

"Not at all, Auntie," Eun-soo replied with a genuine smile. "I have no more work today, and the infinity pool is one of our hotel's greatest specialties. I'd love to join you."

The group made their way to the private elevator, the descent silent and smooth until they reached the pool deck level.

As they walked through the lobby and toward the outdoor area, every member of the staff they passed stopped what they were doing to bow deeply.

"Good evening, Miss," they echoed in a rhythmic sequence that Eun-soo acknowledged with an effortless, practiced bow of her own.

They finally reached the Hidden Cliff's iconic infinity pool, a 47-meter stretch of heated water that seemed to spill directly into the dark forest below.

The steam rose off the surface of the water, catching the glow of the underwater lights and creating a dreamlike atmosphere against the Jeju night.

Since Eun-soo had already showered, she didn't submerge herself; instead, she sat gracefully on the tiled edge, letting her feet dangle into the silk-like warmth of the water.

She looked out over the cliffside, her blue dress catching the ambient light, her silhouette reflected in the shimmering surface of the pool.

If Jin-woo had been present, he would have been mesmerized by the sight of her sitting there, a vision of calm beauty amidst the grand architecture of her family's legacy.

Several guests nearby mostly men watched her with undisguised interest, a few even beginning to move toward her with the intent of starting a conversation.

However, as Hajun splashed nearby and ran over to show her a floating toy, and as Jin-ho and Young-sook settled into loungers beside her, the would-be suitors stopped in their tracks.

They watched the way Eun-soo laughed at Hajun's antics and the respectful, familial way she spoke to the older couple.

Assuming she was the mother of the child and a settled member of a high-society family, they kept their distance, leaving the group in peace.

Eun-soo noticed the shifting glances, but she didn't feel the need to correct the misunderstanding.

In fact, she found herself leaning into the feeling the strange, comforting sensation of being seen as Hajun's mother and as a daughter to the two people sitting beside her.

It was a life far removed from the cold VVIP lists and corporate mergers, and for a brief moment in the warm water of the pool, she let herself believe it was real.
