Aria's POV
I didn't know what to say. Part of me wanted to tell him it was too late, that he'd hurt me too much and I'd moved on.
But another part of me, the part that had loved him for four years, wanted to give him that chance.
"I don't know if I can trust you again," I said honestly.
"I know. And I'll spend however long it takes earning that trust back." He took a step closer. "Just don't shut me out completely. Please."
We stood there looking at each other and I felt so confused I could scream.
"I need time," I said finally. "To think about everything. The Council, my parents, Damon, you and Lucian. I can't make any big decisions right now."
"I understand," Mateo said. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here when you're ready."
He started to leave but paused at the door.
"For what it's worth," he said without turning around, "I think you should meet with Damon. Find out what he knows about your parents. You deserve those answers."
