Chapter 23 - New Power

David stood silently.

The night felt heavier than usual.

He turned to Noah and said,

"You should go back."

Noah frowned.

"What?"

"Tell Master I'll return in a week."

Noah looked at him carefully.

"…This is about your family, right?"

David nodded.

After a moment, Noah sighed.

"Fine. Don't die before I come back."

David smirked slightly.

"Same to you."

And just like that—

Noah left.

Now…

David was alone.

The next day—

David's entire family gathered at their ancestral house.

It was a large, old place.

Full of history.

Full of power.

Around him stood his cousins—

Six of them, almost his age.

Some confident.

Some calm.

Some… dangerous.

At the center stood the family head.

An old man.

Weak in body—

But his presence was overwhelming.

He spoke slowly,

"My time has come."

"I will pass my power…"

"To the one who wins."

David froze.

"…Wins?"

The old man continued,

"This is a fight."

"A fight to survive."

"Kill… or be killed."

Silence.

David's heart dropped.

His cousins didn't react.

They already knew.

But David—

Didn't.

His face turned pale.

"…No…"

Memories flashed—

Playing with them.

Laughing with them.

Growing up together.

"I… can't do this," he whispered.

"I can't kill them…"

His father stepped forward.

"You must."

"This is our family's rule."

"You will fight."

David clenched his fists.

"The rules are simple," the old man continued.

"You will run through the forest."

"You will hunt each other."

"The last one standing… will inherit my power."

"And if more than one survives…"

"They will fight."

"Until one remains."

The moment he finished—

Everyone ran.

David ran forward—

But suddenly—

Someone blocked his path.

His sister.

Magna.

She smiled slightly.

"So… big brother," she said,

"How have you been?"

"I trained a lot while you were away."

David shook his head.

"We don't have to fight."

"This will destroy our family."

Magna's expression changed.

"If you don't want the power…"

"Then die peacefully."

Her sword moved.

Fast.

The fight began.

David mostly defended.

He didn't want to hurt her.

But Magna kept attacking.

Again.

And again.

Cuts appeared on his body.

Small—

But painful.

Finally—

David had no choice.

With a small knife in his hand—

He made one move.

One fatal move.

Magna stopped.

Her body fell.

"…I'm sorry…" David whispered.

He walked forward.

Slowly.

Voices echoed—

Screams.

Pain.

His cousins…

Dying.

Tears filled his eyes.

But he kept walking.

Then—

He felt it.

That presence.

The same one from before.

Cold.

Heavy.

"…A ghost?" he whispered.

The Truth

David ran.

Searching for others.

But everywhere—

There was blood.

Bodies.

Silence.

Then—

He saw it.

A powerful ghost.

And in front of it—

Leo.

About to be killed.

"LEO!"

David rushed in—

And saved him.

They ran together.

Soon—

They found Jobs.

The three of them hid.

Breathing heavily.

"…Everyone else is gone," Jobs whispered.

David clenched his fists.

"We fight it."

Leo and Jobs looked at him.

"You're sure?"

"…No," David said.

"But we have to try."

The Battle

They attacked together.

Three directions.

Three blades.

But the ghost—

Was too strong.

Their weapons broke.

David was thrown back.

Jobs fell.

Leo stood alone.

"I'll handle it!" Leo shouted.

But he couldn't.

He was just human.

The ghost attacked—

And Leo fell.

Dead.

David's eyes widened.

"…No…"

He stood up.

Slowly.

And this time—

He didn't hold back.

His power awakened.

He attacked.

Again.

And again.

The ghost weakened.

And finally—

It was destroyed.

Jobs stared at him.

"…You're a Ghost Killer?"

David sighed.

"Long story."

The Final Fight

They returned.

Only two left.

The old man spoke,

"You both must fight."

David looked at Jobs.

"I don't want to do this."

But then—

He looked at his father.

And understood.

The fight began.

Jobs attacked again and again.

David only defended.

Until—

The final moment came.

David had no choice.

One strike.

Jobs fell.

Silence filled the place.

Everyone stared at David.

The weakest one—

Had become the strongest.

The old man raised his hand.

A golden light surrounded David.

His body lifted into the air.

Energy flowed through him.

His weapons floated beside him—

Four Fangs.

Glowing.

Beautiful.

Powerful.

Then—

The voice spoke,

"You now possess the power…"

"To read minds."

David's eyes opened slowly.

He landed on the ground.

Everything felt different.

Stronger.

He looked at his family.

And without a word—

He turned away.

This was not the end.

This was just—

The beginning.
