Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The anniversary celebration

The next morning, Nayeon st out to work again. She had prepared everything for the anniversary celebration for that day. Nayeon picked out the Valentino gown that Haerin had bought for her as an early birthday gift.

"My birthday is a month from now." Nayeon thought.

She stuffed the gown into a pink beach bag and put some of her worn out jewelry into it. "I really need new jewelry." Nayeon spoke. She would have borrowed from Haerin if she was still living with her, but now she had to manage what she had. Nayeon thought of how she would be the laughing stalk of the anniversary if she wore that kind of old jewelry to the celebration. She decided to stop by a small store on her way to work to buy jewelry for herself to wear.

On her way to work, she stopped by a store and bought a sufficient amount of jewellery for the anniversary. She ought to look her best as an employee at Amazing water.

She soon arrived at Amazing water and met Dohyun at the entrance with Leah clutching his arm. She decided to greet him formally instead of just ignoring him.

"Good day, Mr Dohyun." Her gaze shifted to Leah who was looking like she was also expecting a greeting. "Good day, Miss Leah."

Leah looked quite astonished, but held her pride and grined.

"Well, you seem quite different today, Nayeon." Dohyun spoke.

"Please, let us adress eachother formally, Mr Dohyun." Nayeon begged.

"I understand, Miss Nayeon. My parents are coming as honored guests this evening and I would love for you to meet them." Dohyun spoke.

"You want this filth to meet myself future in-laws? But why?" Leah asked annoyed.

Dohyun continued speaking to Nayeon as if she weren't there.

"Would you be interested?" He asked.

"Yes, i would." Nayeon replied. "Have a great day... you and your fiancée..."

Dohyun tried to reach out to Nayeon but Leah held him back abruptly. Nayeon sprinted away and Leah confronted Dohyun.

"What was that? Why are you always acting like you're begging for her forgiveness or something?" Leah said infuriated.

"You know that it's partly your fault that me and Nayeon aren't friends anymore. The least I can do is to be friendly towards her." Dohyun said in a sad manner.

"Your father did the right thing, cause that girl would have destroyed your whole career, Dohyun."

"She's better than you and has more capability. I was interested in her because I saw potential in her. Nayeon is special."

"Are you out of your mind? Nayeon is nothing but a weeb and a pain in the neck. I am your fiancée and you're getting married to me. If you continue this open act of being disloyal, then I will tell my father to cut the deal off. I know you have no other choice but to do as I say if you don't want your parents to be disappointed in you, Dohyun."

Dohyun was left speechless and turned his head away miserably.

"That is why I'm marrying you. I don't want to disappoint my parents... especially my father." Dohyun spoke. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to take care of."

Dohyun left Leah abruptly as he went into his office. Dohyun was very distressed and thought about how he could make things right with Nayeon.

"I don't want to let another person like that go in my life. If only I could tell her the reason behind all this. Nayeon, please forgive me." Dohyun buried his head into work throughout the day until evening approached.

Nayeon went to change in the female restrooms, and could not help but think about Dohyun and how Leah was clutching his arm that morning.

"I don't get it. Does he like Leah or Savannah? Or maybe he's just playing them. I had quite an amount of playboys in my former high school and I was one of their targets. I remember how I beat them up and got suspended for about four days after." Nayeon was making assumptions.

"Maybe Dohyun is a playboy too, and is just using Savannah and Leah for his own profit. But what did he want with me? It's not like I'm rich or come from an influential background. Was he really sincere about the whole friendship thing?" Nayeon didn't know what to believe and what not to believe.

She was suddenly interrupted of her thinking state by Vivian.

"Hello, Nayeon." Vivian walked up to her in a stunning orange sequential gown.

"Your gown is lovely, Vivian." Nayeon complimented.

"Thank you. Your gown is too. Is it from Valentino, perhaps?"

"Oh, yes. How did you know?"

"My cousins wife is the ambassador of Valentino. So they send me a lot of their new outfits from abroad."

"That's wonderful. I'm sure you have a full closet?"

"That's right."

Nayeon thought, "Damn, if only i had a rich relative. Then I would surely benefit from them."

"How is your aunt?" Nayeon asked.

"She is still working on the rent money." Vivian replied.

"You seem calmer than before. Did something happen?"

"No, i just think I have a way to raise money for my aunties shop rent. Anyway, see you in the hall."

Vivian walked off like a supermodel and Nayeon was left wondering. "What did she mean by that?" The celebration was about to begin soon. So Nayeon applied make up on her face and wore her jewelry along with her heels. She dashed out of the restroom just before the starting of the ceremony.

As Nayeon stepped into the hall, she was mesmerised by the interior and detailed decorations. She had never soon anything like it before. The chandeliers twinkle from above, there were musicians playing sweet soothing music, and a table prepared and designated for everyone.

One of the event staff guided her to her table and Nayeon saw her name written in gold cursive infront of her seat. She sat down and Heeseung soon joined her.

"So, we're on the same table?" Heeseung spoke. He looked very charming in his dark red tuxedo and red bow tie.

"How fortunate we are." Nayeon said. She found it very lucky that her and Heeseung were so close to eachother.

"Indeed."

"Have you gathered information on Leah?"

"Not yet, I hired a private investigator to do the job. I'll let you know when he is finished with it."

"A private investigator? How?"

"He is a friend of mine."

"Oh, I see."

Heeseung excused himself as he had more guests to greet. Nayeon did the same instead of just looking like someone that was out of place.

Nayeon encountered Dohyun as she wondered around. "Aw, out of all people, it just had to be him." Nayeon grumbled to herself.

"What are you saying?" Dohyun asked wuth a curious smile on his face.

Nayeon spotted Savannah speaking and laughing with a group of guests.

"I see that Savannah is around today." She said.

"Yes, she has recovered, and I told you that she would attend." Dohyun spoke.

"I remember you saying so."

"I said that I would introduce you to my parents. But it's quite unusual of them to not be here by now. I wonder what's up."

"They may be taking their time. Rich people have all the time in the world."

"What? Miss Nayeon?"

Nayeon coldly walked away from Dohyun. And even though he wanted to still speak with her, he saw Leah watching him from the corner of his eye. He decided to be mindful and left Nayeon alone.

A few minutes later, Mr and Mrs Lee arrived and Dohyun started off with giving a speech along with his parents. After their speeches, everyone broke out into an applause and they officially commenced the anniversary.

The hall was lively and filled with chatter and joy. Nayeon was walking around holding a glass of wine. She usually doesn't drink anything aside from smoothies and juice, but she decided to take wine to act well classed and wealthy.

Nayeon suddenly came to a stop as Savannah was right in front of her. They looked at eachother for a short moment until Savannah gave her one of her dashing smiles.

"Hey, we have met before, right? I'm Savannah Harpson." Savannah spoke in a kind manner.

"Yeah, we've met before. I'm Nayeon." She said in a confident tone.

"The anniversary hall is truly beautiful."

"Indeed, they put efforts into it."

Nayeon always sought an opportunity to ask about the relationship that Savannah had with Dohyun, and she felt like this was her opportunity.

"May I ask a question?" Nayeon asked eagerly.

"Go ahead." Savannah encouraged.

"What is your relationship with Mr Dohyun?"

Savannah's eyes actually widened in shock. She smirked and then replied, "My relationship with Mr Dohyun? We are just colleagues."

"That can't be. You both are incredibly close." Nayeon said in disbelief.

"Thats only because our fathers are best friends. But we don't consider eachother as friends to be honest." Savannah spoke.

"I-I don't understand...."

"I get that you guys may be close. That is why you're asking me about our relationship. But whenever we're together, Dohyun only speaks about-"

Savannah was cut short when a sudden scream echoed through the hall. It turned out to be Mrs Lee and Vivian was laughing maniacally infront of her.

It seemed that Vivian and Mrs Lee were having a drink with eachother but she suddenly fell on the floor.

Vivian was laughing like a psychopath and exclaimed, "That's what you get for what you did, you horrid woman!"

Security roughly dragged Vivian out of the hall and emergency aid came to help Mrs Lee immediately.
