Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Vivian's court case

The following day, it was discovered that Vivian was having a glass with Mrs Lee but she unknowingly put poison into her drink.

Mrs Lee was rushed to the hospital and thankfully, she didn't suffer any internal damages.

Vivian, however, was taken to the police station and they decided to give her a trial. Mr and Mrs Lee, being the powerful and influential people that they are hired a good lawyer for their case.

Since Nayeon a witness of what happened that evening, she would also be giving a testimony with or against her.

That morning, Nayeon met up with Heeseung at a local cafe nearby her house.

They were discussing about Vivian's case and what could have possibly happen.

"Do you think that i was Vivian that actually tried to poison Mrs Lee?" Heeseung questioned. "Or maybe she was framed."

"That may not be the case. Because when Mrs Lee collapsed onto the ground, Vivian was laughing and said something like, "that's what you get, you horrid woman?" Nayeon stated.

"That is right... but what could have led Vivian to do such an unwise act?"

"I don't know. But I will go and visit her before her court case starts to get the details. Then I'll see whether I'll defend her or not."

"I'll come with you."

"Best we leave now."

Nayeon and Heeseung immediately left the cafe and went to visit Vivian who was temporarily confined until her trail began.

They were allowed to see her in the visiting room, and they saw Vivian sitting across the glass window.

Vivian didn't look different at all. She almost looked glad to be confined. She immediately asked them, "Has Mrs Lee died yet?"

The question had Nayeon and Heeseung taken aback. They had no clue why Vivian would ask such a thing, despite being in temporary confinement.

"No, Mrs Lee is doing well. They doctors say that she suffered no internal damages." Nayeon spoke.

Vivian was enraged.

"What? After all my efforts into getting her to die from that poison. It was highly lethal!" Vivian said furiously.

"C-calm down, Vivian." Heeseung spoke softly. "I don't understand why you would try to poison Mrs Lee in the first place."

"Exactly. What did she do to you?" Nayeon asked eagerly.

"You really wanna know, do you?" Vivian spoke with her head down.

"Yes, you can tell us." Nayeon assured.

"Nayeon, you're remember how I told you that my aunt is owning rent?" Vivian asked.

"Oh, yes. I remember." Nayeon replied.

"Well, Mr and Mrs Lee own that little piece of land that my aunts shop is grounded on. And they have been pressuring her for years to pay rent, when they are rich enough to not worry about some small money that is being owed to them. I lived with my aunt before. When I was younger, I mistakenly murdered a customer at my aunts shop because he was being rude to her. I stabbed him with a knife... I didn't mean to kill him though. My aunt panicked and hid the body away, she then covered up my misdeed with an accomplice so that I wouldn't get into trouble. The money my aunt saved to pay that years rent is what she used to hire an accomplice for my murder. I owe her so much. And I despised the Lee's because they would always mock my family because they are rich." Vivian broke into tears as she said that.

Heeseung and Nayeon didn't know how to react. Her deeds were bad, but at the same time, with a purpose behind them. Vivian continued sobbing until Heeseung spoke up.

"Vivian, I never knew you were capable of such a vile act. No matter how bad they have hurt you or your family, no human has the right to judge situations on their own. It will lead to an unfortunate situation like this now." Heeseung spoke with conviction in his voice.

"Heeseung is very right, Vivian. I have no idea what you will do now, but I can't say that you will win the case. You did act very suspicious last night." Nayeon said in a worried tone.

"Nayeon... Heeseung.... Will you defend me in the trial or will you both be against me?" Vivian asked with tears in her eyes.

Heeseung and Nayeon looked away. They were both dumbfounded. Nayeon knew very well that Vivian is still at wrong, no matter the reason she did it for. Vivian was still waiting for their answer.

Heeseung suddenly spoke up first.

"I will not defend you, Vivian. What you did was terrible. Putting someone's life at stake because of what they did to you and your family?" Heeseung said promptly.

Vivian suddenly leaped in anger and stood up from her chair.

"I knew you wouldn't defend me! It's because you don't know how it's like to be someone like me! I suffered so much, it was completely unbearable. Now you're saying that I don't have the right to judge this or that?" Vivian said in an enraged voice.

Their time for visiting was up. Nayeon and Heeseung awkwardly left the station and werw on their way home. They were dead silent while walking. Nayeon suddenly broke the silence.

"Well, that went awfully well?" She said.

"Yeah, Vivian is crazy." Heeseung spoke.

They both laughed.

"So I'll see you at the trail?" Nayeon asked.

"Yup, have a great day ahead." Heeseung said.

They both departed ways and didn't meet until the case was at work.

It was time for the trial. The defendant, Vivian stood infront of the judge. Vivian looked upset now. She knew she was going to loose the case.

The judge proceeded the trial.

Unfortunately for Vivian, everybody testified against her. Including Nayeon.

Nayeon, after her testimony, felt very guilty about having to go against Vivian. Heeseung knew how she felt and comforted her. Nayeon thought, "Its not like we were close anyways." Nayeon sat down and was deep in thought. She couldn't shake off the guilt and the things that Vivian had said.
