Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 DAMN

As Ash climbed back up to Bill's Lighthouse, Bill, Misty, Brock, and Giselle were still standing there with their mouths hanging open. They couldn't wrap their heads around what they had just witnessed: Ash had actually used a Pikachu to take down a Dragonite—a feat that bordered on the impossible.

Ash, meanwhile, was busy cradling the exhausted Pikachu. He turned to Meowth. "How is it? Did you get the whole thing?"

Meowth adjusted his goggles and tapped a few buttons on his recording rig. "Got it all, Boss! Every spark and every scale, captured in high-definition!" He played back a snippet of the recording, and Ash nodded in satisfaction.

"Good. Pikachu looked great out there. Send the file to Professor Oak and the others. Also, ask the Professor to come down here if he's free. I want to make sure the Dragonite doesn't have any hidden injuries from the battle."

"Understood, Boss! Transmitting now. Should I loop in Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny too?"

"Yeah. And Giovanni. With their combined resources, we can give this Dragonite the best post-capture check-up possible."

"Ash!!!" Bill suddenly lunged forward, practically sobbing as he grabbed Ash's vest. "Let Professor Oak do the research here! Please! I'm begging you! I'll give you anything! Just don't take him away yet!"

"Uh... Bill, I like women. Can you not be so creepy?" Ash said, trying to pry the researcher off.

"I'm begging you! This is the request of a lifetime! Ash, please!!!"

Not long after, Professor Oak, Giovanni, the Head of the Joy family, and the Chief of the Jenny family all received the video file.

Professor Oak: "Oh, a video from Ash? I wonder what he's found this time... Sip tea."Giovanni: "Matori, let's see what kind of surprise my boy has for me today... Sip wine."

A few seconds into the video... PFFFFT!

All four of them spat out their drinks simultaneously. Then, the shouting began.

Professor Oak: "All research staff! Grab your partners! We are heading to Bill's Lighthouse immediately to protect Ash and the specimen!"Giovanni: "Mobilize the Elite Rocket squads and the research division! Move to the lighthouse! Now!"Joy/Jenny Chief: "Deploy the highest-level medical and security teams! Destination: Bill's Lighthouse!"

By the next morning, the lighthouse was surrounded by an impenetrable wall of high-level security. Elite Rocket members (in civilian clothes), High-Rank Officer Jennys, and Top-Tier Nurse Joys had formed a perimeter. Inside, a massive medical operation was underway, with Ash and Professor Oak leading the check-up on the Dragonite.

The Dragonite itself was still a bit dazed. Who am I? Where am I? Since when did a Pikachu have moves that terrifying? However, it was a good sport about the situation. It recognized Ash's strength as a trainer and patiently allowed the Joy and Ash to poke and prod its massive frame.

Bill was desperately trying to get close to the Dragonite to take measurements, but the Joy head kept swatting him away.

"You researchers are all the same—impatient! If you'd put the Pokémon's health first like Ash does, we wouldn't have to work so hard!" She turned around and snagged Ash by the collar as he tried to mix another batch of medicinal soup.

"And you! You haven't slept in twenty-four hours. Go to bed. Now! Samuel, get your grandson-in-law under control!"

Professor Oak looked up from his notes and signaled a girl standing nearby. "Daisy, go ahead and help Ash find some rest."

Daisy Oak, Ash's official fiancée, stepped forward with a bright, dangerous smile. She was spinning a heavy wrench in her hand. "No problem, Grandpa. Come on, Ash. It's time for a nap."

"Daisy! Put the wrench down! That's attempted murder!" Ash backed away, looking genuinely panicked. This was clearly a woman who knew how to handle him.

"You're going to sleep one way or another, Ashy-boy."

"I'm not tired! I have—"

THUD.

Ash didn't even see it coming. Daisy's Chansey had appeared behind him and applied a Physical Sleeping Move—otherwise known as a well-timed karate chop to the neck. Ash slumped forward, falling right into Daisy's arms.

"Honestly, what a stubborn idiot," Daisy sighed, her expression softening into one of pure affection as she cradled his head. She looked over at the shell-shocked Misty and Giselle. "Let's go. We should take this dummy somewhere quiet so he can actually sleep."

Misty was frozen. She had realized that Daisy wasn't just some researcher—she was one of Ash's main fiancées.

"Don't look so worried," Daisy said, seeing through Misty's panic. "I only get mad at him when he doesn't take care of himself. If I got angry every time he attracted a new girl, I'd have died of a heart attack years ago."

Misty blinked. "You... you knew?"

"Of course. This guy has a talent for attracting women that borders on a supernatural ability. Between the breeder girl, the girl from the Laramie, and that herbalist he's been talking to... his entanglements are a mess."

Misty and Giselle shared a look of utter defeat. Brock, however, had reached his limit.

"DAMN IT ALL! WHY?! WHY IS ASH THE PROTAGONIST OF A ROMANCE NOVEL AND I'M JUST THE COMIC RELIEF?! WAAAAAH!"

Brock sprinted off toward the horizon, sobbing. The guards didn't even stop him; they just watched him go with pitying eyes.
