Chapter 27 - 027 Like It'd Always Been Mine

Thank god for alcohol being a depressant. It allowed me to fall into sleep's loving arms the moment Kay and Xavier tucked me in, sharing worried glances as if they were my worried parents. I giggled at the thought. My parents were long past caring about my sleep quality. 

I dreamt I was on a stage. 

The world around me was dark and empty save the bright, circular light illuminating me. 

I stood alone, surveying the dark as my heart beat ever faster. 

A second light clicked on. Then a third. Then fourth then sixth. 

Six hollow shells of people stared me down. They wore expressionless masks but I knew what they felt. What they thought of me. 

The first of the figures to be illuminated stepped out of her light. She dissolved into the darkness. 

My breath caught in my throat and I whirled around, trying to find her. Find her before she found me. 

Her hand surged out from the darkness and ensnared my wrist in a bruising grip.
