Chapter 8 - chapter 8

Trevor was excited — finally, he would learn more about the creatures of this world — so right after lunch, he and his grandfather headed to a room equipped with a blackboard and a projector, and Trevor looked around in surprise, saying, "Wow… how have I never found this room before?" Lucius chuckled softly and replied, "Relax. It would still take you years to discover every corner of this mansion."

Trevor quickly took a seat at one of the desks while Lucius stopped in front of the board and wrote Supernatural Creatures, then turned toward him and began, "There are many supernatural beings. But we'll start with the most common ones: werewolves and vampires." Trevor nodded, then raised his hand and asked, "Why are they the most common?" Lucius answered calmly, "For many reasons. But the main one is that you don't have to be born a werewolf or a vampire." He crossed his arms and added, "Anyone can become one… if they're bitten."

Trevor frowned and asked, "So there's no way out? If you get bitten, that's it — you become one of them?" Lucius shook his head and said, "In the case of werewolves, not necessarily. You can be turned by a werewolf, and not just through a bite, but also through a deep wound caused by their claws." As he spoke, Lucius began pacing slowly across the room. "That happens because of a kind of 'venom' present in a werewolf's claws and fangs. This venom alters the human body and initiates the transformation." Trevor listened carefully as Lucius continued, "But there's a small chance the body resists."

Trevor raised an eyebrow and asked, "You mean… survive it?" Lucius nodded and replied, "Yes… but it's extremely rare," before adding something that made Trevor even more curious. "In some very rare cases, the person doesn't become a werewolf." Trevor tilted his head and asked, "And then what happens?" Lucius answered, "The body may awaken another supernatural bloodline," pausing briefly before adding, "But those cases are exceedingly rare."

Then Lucius wrote another word on the board: Aconite. "If you're fast enough, you can use aconite to try to counteract the venom," he said, and Trevor frowned. "So that saves the person?" Lucius shook his head. "Not exactly. That's a desperate measure. Aconite in high concentrations is poisonous to humans." He crossed his arms and went on, "In a few rare cases, someone has survived," then sighed, "but most of the time… they simply die." Trevor grimaced and said, "So the best method is not getting hit." Lucius nodded. "Exactly," he agreed, then added casually, "Or, depending on the injured body part… you can always amputate." Trevor's eyes widened, and he quickly replied, "Uh… I'd rather not amputate anything, thanks." Lucius laughed and said, "In desperate times, people are capable of anything, my boy."

Trevor then asked, "What about vampires?" and Lucius leaned back against the desk as he answered, "With vampires, the situation is different. Once someone is turned… there's no going back." Trevor remained silent, listening as Lucius continued, "However, it's harder to turn a hunter." Trevor tilted his head and asked, "Why?" and Lucius pointed to his own neck while explaining, "Because the transformation doesn't happen with just any bite. They must bite the neck and begin the blood-draining process. And even then, the vampire chooses." Trevor frowned. "Chooses?" Lucius nodded. "They decide whether to turn the person… or simply drink their blood," and Trevor nodded slowly, murmuring, "I see."

Lucius then turned on the projector, and an image appeared on the board — a hand-painted illustration of a werewolf. "Lycanthropy. Better known as werewolves," he said, pointing at the image. "They are creatures capable of transforming into a hybrid between human and wolf." He raised three fingers and announced, "They possess three primary forms." Pointing to the first slide, he said, "The first is partial transformation," and the image showed a man with claws and elongated fangs. "They transform only certain parts of their body."

Lucius changed the slide. "The second form is the partially lupine form," he continued, and now the image showed a more complete werewolf. "This is the initial stage of full transformation. In this form, they are already far stronger than ordinary humans." He pointed at the image and listed, "Enhanced senses. Regeneration. Superior speed." Then he switched the slide again, and the third form appeared, making Trevor feel his heart skip a beat because he recognized it — it looked exactly like the werewolves from that night.

"The third form is the most dangerous," Lucius spoke seriously. "When the werewolf manages to control their inner beast, during the full moon, they achieve a balance between man and wolf." The image showed a massive werewolf — humanoid body, wolf's head, covered in thick fur. "This form drastically increases their strength, senses, and regenerative abilities." Lucius sighed and added, "Fighting one of these is… complicated." Trevor stared at the image, trying to suppress the memories of that night, and then he noticed something. "Why are their eyes golden?" he asked.

Lucius answered immediately, "Werewolves are extremely territorial," and he returned to the board to write two words: Alpha and Beta. "They usually live in packs. Betas form the foundation of the pack. They have golden eyes." He then looked at Trevor and continued, "Alphas are the leaders. They have red eyes." That immediately stirred a memory in Trevor, and he frowned. "But… if they're territorial…" Lucius looked at him and said, "Yes?" and Trevor went on, "Why were there two of them that night?"

Lucius's expression darkened. He remained silent for a few seconds before admitting, "I don't know." He looked down, his voice grave as he continued, "There shouldn't be more than one Alpha in Boston. That territory was considered safe." His hands clenched slightly. "The pack there wasn't hostile." Lucius frowned, clearly debating whether he should go on, and after a few seconds, he sighed. "There is… a rumor." Trevor paid close attention as Lucius said, "A pack composed entirely of Alphas. Hunters always believed it was just a story invented by werewolves." He closed his eyes briefly and added, "But… I learned the hard way that it might not be."

A small spark lit up in Trevor's mind, but he said nothing, simply nodding. Lucius took a deep breath and announced, "That's enough for today. Mr. Hans is already waiting for you at the training grounds." He turned off the projector and said, "We'll continue tomorrow," before leaving the room.

Trevor remained seated for a few seconds, thinking, and muttered aloud, "I've seen this somewhere in my past life… but where?" He thought for a few moments longer, then suddenly lifted his head, his eyes widening as the realization struck him. "The Alpha Pack… from Teen Wolf!"
