Chapter 14 - chapter 14

Trevor was stunned by what stood before him, for ever since he was a child he had heard stories about the legendary weapon used to defeat Dracula, but seeing it with his own eyes was something else entirely, and when he reached out to take it, his grandfather gently pulled it back and said, "Easy. First, there are a few things you need to understand."

Trevor stopped immediately and listened as Lucius continued, "I know you're probably tired of hearing about the Vampire Killer, but there are important details. The whip changes form depending on its wielder. This is my form — yours may be different." He paused briefly before going on, "On top of that, it has hidden abilities. Some Belmonts were able to transform it into a morning star, but that depends on the user's spiritual strength. It hasn't happened in many years, so don't get your hopes up." Trevor nodded, absorbing every word, and Lucius added, his tone growing more serious, "One more thing: never let anyone but you use the whip. It's bound to Belmont blood. If someone else tries to wield it… their life will be drained. Take good care of it. And keep it close at all times. It can also detect the presence of supernatural creatures."

Trevor listened with absolute focus until finally Lucius extended the whip, and Trevor's heart felt like it was about to leap out of his chest because it was as if the Vampire Killer was calling to him — and the moment he grasped it, a strange sensation washed over him, as if something missing inside him had finally been filled, when suddenly the whip shone with an intense white light that forced him to shut his eyes, blinded. When he could see again, the whip had changed: it was now a dark brown, its handle adorned with gold, the Belmont crest engraved into it, and he felt it pulse in his hand as if it recognized him. Trevor smiled and looked at his grandfather, beginning to say, "Look at this—" but before he could finish, his eyelids grew heavy, his body lost strength, and he fell forward. Lucius caught him quickly, exclaiming, "Hey! Hey, what happened, boy?!" but Trevor could no longer hear him because he had already lost consciousness.

When he opened his eyes again, the first thing he noticed was that the Vampire Killer was still in his hand, and the second was that he was no longer in the mansion — he stood inside a vast throne room in an ancient castle, red curtains draping the walls and the room lit by blue-flamed candles that, strangely, didn't illuminate the space as they should have. And standing before him was a man, tall, with neck-length blond hair and piercing blue eyes, wearing a black shirt beneath a white vest with red details, and Trevor recognized him instantly: Leon Belmont, the founder of his lineage, but he had no time to react because Leon cracked his whip against the ground and said, "Prepare yourself," then charged.

Thanks to his training, Trevor managed to dodge the first strike and step back, demanding, "What are you doing here?!" but Leon only answered, "Prove your worth. Show me you are worthy," giving him no time for questions as he continued his assault. Trevor didn't hesitate — if this was a fight, then he would fight — and the battle grew intense as they fought on equal footing, giving each other no room to breathe, and Trevor quickly realized that fighting with the whip alone wouldn't be enough, so he made a decision and closed the distance, dashing forward to twist his hips and drive a punch straight into Leon's liver. But Leon reacted instantly, and taking advantage of the opening, he grabbed Trevor and slammed his head forward in a brutal headbutt that sent Trevor staggering back, dazed. Leon didn't waste a second and attacked with the whip, and this time Trevor couldn't fully dodge — the strike hit him clean — but even so, he raised his guard, remembering Mr. Hans's teachings, and charged again.

Leon prepared for another close-range exchange, but Trevor surprised him: instead of using his fists, he struck with the whip, the attack landing, and Trevor didn't give him space, advancing again to wrap the whip around Leon's leg and pull, making Leon lose his balance and fall. Trevor seized the opportunity, rushing in to unleash a barrage of blows, but Leon raised his guard, waiting for an opening, and he found one between attacks, countering with a powerful punch that shoved Trevor back before he got up immediately and attacked again. Crack. Crack. Crack. The whip tore through Trevor's clothes, and even wounded, he stood firm, advancing once more and trying to repeat the same maneuver with the whip, but Leon anticipated it, deflecting the attack and moving to start another sequence — only for Trevor to step back almost on instinct and, in a desperate and precise move, wrap the whip around Leon's hand. Leon couldn't react in time, and Trevor pulled with all his strength, throwing a left cross straight into Leon's face in the same instant, the impact solid as Leon was sent flying and the whip slipped from his hand.

And then everything changed, for in the blink of an eye Trevor was standing once again in the throne room — uninjured, no pain, his clothes intact — and learning from before, he immediately leapt back, guard raised, but Leon stood there with his arms crossed and a faint smile on his face, saying, "You've passed the test, Trevor. You can relax." Trevor kept his guard up for a few more seconds, but seeing no threat, he slowly lowered it, and Leon said, "Let's talk." Trevor nodded, and suddenly the scene shifted again: now they were inside a simple wooden cabin, seated across from each other at an old table, and Leon extended his hand, saying, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Trevor. I must say… you're an excellent fighter." Trevor, slightly awkward, shook his hand and replied, "Thank you… it's an honor to hear that from you." Leon smiled faintly and said, "Now… let's talk about what really matters."
