After the revelation that his friend Adrian was, in fact, Alucard, Trevor couldn't sleep properly, and as soon as morning came he went straight to speak with his grandfather during breakfast.
"Why didn't you tell me Adrian was Alucard?"
His grandfather raised an eyebrow, surprised, and calmly replied, "So, he decided to tell you. Well… it wasn't my secret to reveal." Noticing that this didn't satisfy Trevor, he continued, "Look, he's been helping our family for a long time. One of the few things he asked was that we wouldn't reveal his identity. He's lived for many years and simply wants to remain discreet. Don't be upset about it. In fact, be glad he trusts you enough to tell you who he is."
Trevor fell silent for a moment, reflecting, then nodded and said, "You're right… One more thing, Grandpa. He gave me this ring before he left," taking the ring off his finger and showing it to him. Lucius examined it briefly and said, "Hm… I don't recognize it, but if Alucard gave it to you, it's certainly not ordinary. Still, it shouldn't be dangerous." Trevor nodded and replied, "Alright, thanks, Grandpa," and from then on he kept wearing the ring, only taking it off during training with Mr. Hans or when taking a shower, and though he didn't feel anything different, he still liked the object — whether it was magical or not.
After that, everything went on as usual… until January 2011.
Trevor had the habit of checking the news from Beacon Hills every few months — usually at the beginning of each month — but this time he had delayed because of the year-end festivities at the mansion, and when he finally accessed the town's news website, two headlines immediately caught his attention: the first spoke of a deer found dead in the Beacon Hills preserve, marked with a strange spiral symbol on its body, and the second was even worse — the body of a woman, cut in half, had been found in the woods. That was when Trevor understood: the first season had begun, and he had no time left, so with a heavy heart he quickly came up with an excuse and headed to his grandfather's office.
Knock knock.
"Come in."
Trevor opened the door, walked in, and sat down in front of the desk, and Lucius asked, "Is everything alright, Trevor? Do you need something?"
"I… need to talk to you," Trevor began, and Lucius removed his glasses and looked at him attentively, saying, "Then speak. What happened?"
"I need to go back to the United States. I had a dream… and I need to go."
"What? What are you talking about? A dream? Are you alright?" Lucius stood up, clearly worried.
"I'm fine, Grandpa. But… I saw something. And I know I have to go."
"Go back where? Boston?" Lucius pressed, still confused.
"No… California. Beacon Hills. I need to get there as soon as possible," Trevor answered, and Lucius frowned. "Why? Did something happen there?"
"No. But I saw it… Beacon Hills is going to become the center of many events. A beacon for the supernatural," Trevor said, pausing before continuing, "I need to go. It's a Belmont's duty to protect those who can't protect themselves. And… it'll be good for me too. To have a normal school life… make friends. I miss that."
Lucius fell silent and began pacing back and forth before finally saying, "I need to think," and Trevor simply nodded and left, returning to his room where he began packing his things — and that was when he realized just how much he had accumulated over the years, making it hard to leave the mansion, though his decision was already made.
Hours later, Lucius entered the room and looked at the suitcases, remarking, "I see you've already made up your mind." Trevor met his grandfather's gaze and said, "I have," and Lucius sighed before speaking. "I won't say I understand… or that I like this crazy decision. But I trust you." Trevor felt immediate relief as Lucius continued, "I've already spoken to some friends. The Argents are living there. They'll keep an eye on you for me."
"Babysitters? Seriously?" Trevor protested, making a face.
"Don't make that face. I said I'd help you — but on my terms," Lucius countered.
"Alright…" Trevor relented.
"I also bought a house near theirs. It's not luxurious, but it has everything you need. And mind your manners when you have dinner there," Lucius added, and Trevor nodded before his grandfather went on, "Oh, and you're already enrolled in school. You start Monday. And I don't want to see your grades dropping just because you're away." Then Lucius paused, his voice lower as he said, "I also want to give you something," and he left the room only to return shortly after holding an object that made Trevor's eyes widen immediately.
"Wait… why do you have that?" Trevor asked, stunned.
"Because when you're far away, I won't be there to protect you," Lucius answered, taking a deep breath before continuing, "I won't fail you… like I failed your mother." Trevor remained silent as Lucius raised the object and said, "This is the Vampire Killer. The whip passed down through generations in our family. And now… it's your turn to carry that legacy," extending his hand toward his grandson.
