Chapter 31 - Unnamed

Chapter - 31

(Protest Within Silence)

Night had fallen over the city, but inside Aishi's mind, sitting by the window, a deeper darkness had gathered. The outside lights had dimmed, but the play of light and shadow within her soul refused to cease. Her father's face remained as stern as it was last night, his forehead creased with tension. Her mother remained silent—only saying with a frightened yet calm face, "Aishi, do not take a wrong step."

Aishi knew they didn't understand her. They had no idea about the pull she felt toward Ayush, or the profound trust she had built in him. It wasn't just love; she was dreaming of building a life, of fighting a war. At times, a suppressed cry would swell in her chest, but she kept herself composed. She was about to enter a battle where only one person stood by her side—Ayush.

A gentle breeze entered the room, ruffling the folds of the scarf on her shoulder, but she resolved to stand tall. She would not leave Ayush for anything. No matter the obstacles, she knew this love was not just an emotion; it was a responsibility, a vow.

Today at college, both Aishi and Ayush remained silent for a long time. There was a certain heaviness on their faces. Shreyosi realized that things were finally reaching a breaking point. Taking Aishi aside during the break, she asked, "Do you really want to run away?"

Aishi hesitated at first, but then, looking Shreyosi straight in the eye, she asked, "You tell me, Shreyosi—does a person live only for their family? Can't they make decisions for their own happiness?"

Aishi smiled faintly. "You don't know what kind of person he is, Shreyosi. Ayush can understand me just by looking at me. Even when he doesn't speak, I know how deeply he cares for me."

At that moment, Ayush approached and asked, "Aishi, can you leave a bit early today?"

Aishi looked up, startled. "Where are you taking me now?"

"There's a place I want to show you."

"If I go there, will you be able to stop my tears?"

Ayush smiled gently and said, "I might not be able to stop them, but I can certainly catch them."

After college, the two walked away from the city crowds toward the outskirts, near an old railway line. Aishi looked around curiously. "Why this place, Ayush?"

Ayush replied, "Because no one comes here. No one here knows our names. Only two people exist here—you and I. Just as these tracks have moved beyond time, we too need some time away from this society."

Aishi asked, "Will we really be able to live in a place one day where no one knows us?"

Ayush stared intensely into her eyes. "If you want to, we can. I want to take you to a city where no one will ask if you are Hindu or Muslim. Where no one will turn their face away upon seeing you."

Tears welled up in Aishi's eyes. She slowly rested her head on Ayush's shoulder. "You are my religion, Ayush. I want to live with you. I can't imagine anything without you."

Suddenly, Ayush pulled a small notebook from his pocket and handed it to Aishi. "Take this. I've written everything here—the route we'll take the day we escape, where we'll stay, and who to contact. You don't need to read it right now, but I trust you; one day, you will open this."

Aishi took the notebook and pressed it against her chest, as if their entire future was contained within those few pages.
