Chapter 30 - Unnamed

Chapter 30

(Facing the Questions)

Ayush stood at the entrance of the college today with a strange uneasiness. The thoughts piled up inside his chest felt like heavy stones. Everything seemed to be slowly moving toward an unknown future. Yet he had only one source of strength—Aishi. Because she was there, he could dare to think of "leaving" and dare to say "staying."

Aishi was a little late today. As she arrived outside the college gate, she looked around slowly. Spotting Ayush, she hesitated for a moment before walking toward him. There was a faint smile on her face, but her eyes held hidden.

In a soft voice, Ayush said, "You're a bit late today, aren't you?"

Aishi looked at him silently. Then, lowering her voice, she said,

"Ayush, my father found out last night that I talk closely with someone. My mother didn't say anything, but my father… he was very angry. He even checked my phone."

Ayush's face hardened instantly. "You didn't mention my name, did you?"

"No, I didn't. But he said he'll keep an eye on my movements from now on. And he also said my uncle will come tomorrow… to 'set me on the right path.'"

Ayush froze. Even the distant ringing of a rickshaw bell felt like a sharp interruption in their conversation.

He slowly asked, "Are you scared?"

Aishi looked straight at him and replied,

"Not for you, Ayush. I'm scared that someday this society will tear us apart."

Ayush closed his eyes for a moment, as if making a silent promise to himself. Then he extended his hand and said,

"Hold my hand. You can't be afraid now. If you step back at this moment, we'll never be together again. Time is not in our favor, but if you stay with me, I will fight."

Aishi slowly placed her hand in his. It was as if she knew that letting go of this hand would extinguish all the light in her world. With that little courage, they walked together toward the college once again.

Every staircase, every wall of the college seemed to bear witness to their love. But now, shadows of fear, pressure, and hidden anxiety had begun to fall over it.

Inside the classroom, they sat apart, as there were watchful eyes everywhere. Shreyasi sensed that something was wrong. Leaning closer, she whispered,

"Did something happen between you two?"

Aishi didn't answer. She simply lowered her head and sat quietly. Shreyasi said nothing more and opened her book, but her eyes kept returning to Aishi's face. The silent air of the classroom was heavy with unspoken words.

After college, Ayush didn't call Aishi to the park today. Instead, he walked with her to a quiet place—a shaded field beside an old temple.

"You know, I used to play here as a child. Now this field feels like the most sacred place to me. No barriers of religion here. Poor, rich, Hindu, Muslim—everyone sits here together in the sun. I wish our lives could be like this."

Aishi softly said, "Do you think we can do it, Ayush? After everything… can we really make it?"

Ayush replied, "If you say yes, I'll break mountains. If you say no, I won't move an inch. But the day you said yes, I found strength within myself."

Aishi spoke continuously this time,

"You know, I never wanted love to become this dangerous for me. But after you came into my life, I realized love isn't just a dream—it's also a struggle. And I want to fight that struggle with you."

The gentle breeze, the rustling leaves above, and the faded footprints on the ground—it all felt like a scene from a movie. In their eyes now, there were not just dreams of the future, but also responsibility, fear, courage, and determination.

"Your uncle is coming, right? If he checks your phone, will you stop messaging me?"

"Even if I die, I won't be able to leave you. If I don't have a phone, I'll keep your name in my heart. Even if I can't write with my fingers, I'll speak to you through my eyes."

"Aishi," Ayush paused, "can you really leave your home and come with me?"

Aishi stayed silent for a few moments. Her voice choked before she said,

"If I have nothing, I'll still go if I have your hand. I only have one fear—my father… what if he finds you?"

"Then I'll fight for you. I've never been proud of my religion, but I've always been proud of you. You are my identity."

The color of the sky slowly began to change. The shadows deepened. On the other side of the field, a few children were playing. Ayush and Aishi sat quietly. Neither spoke.

In their eyes, there was only one vision now—the unknown road of the future, where they would walk together, becoming light in the darkness.

They knew danger lay ahead, but they also knew they had each other. And together, their lives would become a story no one else could write—they would write it themselves, with their own blood.
