Chapter 32 - Unnamed

Chapter: 32

(Chasing Through the Shadows)

The night was agonizing for Aishi. Her father's surveillance had grown even tighter. Her phone now stayed outside her room and was subject to random checks at any moment. Even her commute from college—whether the rickshaw had arrived or not—was strictly monitored. Aishi realized that the trust she once had had now curdled into deep suspicion.

But she didn't break. She kept the small notebook Ayush had given her hidden close to her chest. It was her final hope, her last vow. She didn't open it to read, but occasionally pressed her hand against her heart to feel its presence—it held her future. Every day now felt like a battle, and she knew she had to win every single one of them.

Ayush, too, was no longer his carefree self. Even at college, he remained vigilant—were people looking at them with curious eyes? Even Shreyosi and their close circle seemed to view them differently now. Whispers drifted through the air: "Are they dating?" "A Hindu and a Muslim! How does that even work?" "They're bound to get caught one day."

Yet, these words didn't make Ayush tremble. He knew that despite everything, he loved Aishi. And for that love, he was prepared for every danger. However, a weight was slowly gathering in his chest day by day. He only forgot that burden when he looked at Aishi and saw the unconditional faith in her eyes.

One day, Ayush was waiting near the college gate after classes. Aishi was running a bit late. The atmosphere felt restless. Birds were descending, casting shadows with their wings, but there was a scent of fear in the breeze. Suddenly, a familiar face emerged through the crowd.

It was Aishi's younger maternal uncle (Choto Mama). His eyes were stern. He was accompanied by two other men whose expressions held an unfamiliar coldness. In an instant, Ayush realized that today was no longer about dreaming of love. Today, the war had begun.

Aishi arrived just then. Her uncle's eyes were blazing. "You're with this boy here again! What have you been doing all this time? Have you become completely shameless?"

Aishi's face turned pale. She couldn't find the words to answer. Ayush stepped forward. "Sir, please, let's talk calmly."

"Don't call me 'Sir.' Who do you think you are to me?" His voice was cold yet terrifying.

"I am her friend. And I'm here to stand by her because she isn't alone."

"Do you realize you two belong to different religions? Do your parents know what you're up to?"

"Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Does it matter? I know what I'm doing," Ayush's voice was calm but resolute.

Aishi finally spoke up, her voice trembling, "Mama, please! I'm not a little child anymore. I understand my actions. I love him. He hasn't taken anything from me; instead, he has given me courage, respect, and love."

Her uncle's face contorted with rage. "You're coming with me, right now!"

"I won't go. You can't take me by force," Aishi's voice shook, but her resolve didn't break.

Standing in front of Ayush, she said, "Don't be afraid, Ayush. We were together, we are together, and we will remain together."

The two men stepped forward to grab Aishi. Ayush rushed in, standing right in their way. There wasn't a flicker of fear in his eyes. It was as if the boy was standing in the middle of a fire, looking at the sky.

"If you touch her, there will be trouble. There is still law in this country; no one can take a girl away against her will."

The men hesitated. A crowd of students began to gather. The situation was reaching a boiling point. Veins stood out in her uncle's reddened eyes. He realized he couldn't do anything here today.

He hissed through gritted teeth, "I'm letting it go today. But this game won't last long. Your family and society will destroy you. Stop dreaming about this girl."

Aishi replied solemnly, "If love died because of threats, then Radha-Krishna, Laila-Majnu, and Heer-Ranjha wouldn't have survived through the centuries. Your threats only increase our love; they don't diminish it."

They left. Behind them remained two silent lovers—but today, they were stronger and more determined than ever.

Aishi gripped Ayush's hand. "Ayush, the time has come. We can't delay any longer."

Ayush bowed his head slightly and simply said, "I know. We either have to run, or we lose. And I don't know how to lose."

A new fire burned in their eyes today. A new courage. It was as if a path was visible even in the dark. They hadn't walked that path yet, but they had decided they would—very soon. Their love was no longer just a teenage romance; it was a battle for existence.

And on that very path, the biggest decision of their lives was about to begin...
