(Third Person POV)
The assassin crouched low, rearing his left hand back while holding the blade. As he did this, Samuel aimed the gun at him and feinted a trigger pull. This caused the assassin to dart away with blinding speed, circling around Samuel.
He rushed Samuel from his right side, swinging his blade down at his arm. Samuel's reflexes allowed him to step back and avoid the swing. He tried to aim the gun at him point-blank, but the assassin spun around and kicked him hard in the stomach.
"Guhh!" Samuel grunted as he reeled back
The assassin then followed up by stabbing at Samuel's face, trying to skewer his skull with his blade. Samuel managed to move his head to the side just in time, only being grazed by the blade. With his left hand, he shoved the assassin in the chest, pushing him back. He then fired his gun by the hip, hitting him in the stomach. The magic shield defended the assassin from the bullet, only causing a light shockwave.
Samuel then stepped to the side, avoiding another wind projectile that was sent flying at him. Within a single second, the two of them jumped away from each other, gaining some distance. Samuel held his gun low, pointing down as he narrowed his eyes, staring right at the assassin.
"Interesting." He said, "That shield of yours. What's with it?"
"Why would I tell you?" The assassin said
"The first one's shattered easily." Samuel said, adjusting his hat, "But it recharged pretty easily. I'm assuming yours is of higher quality, recharging slowly to reset its threshold. Am I correct to assume that?"
"Perhaps you are correct," the assassin said, "Perhaps you are not. It doesn't matter, at the very end. Because I will stand over your corpse, completing my mission."
"So you were sent by this Kurv." Samuel said, "Interesting."
Samuel raised his hand over the bullet holders in his gunbelt and within a second, more appeared out of nowhere.
"Conjure Bullets"
The assassin tilted his head, "You are able to conjure projectiles for your weapon." He said, "You are a mage that utilizes runepowder firearms? Perhaps you are not as weak as you let out to be."
"Come and experience that for yourself, punk." Samuel aimed at him and immediately fired a bullet, "Fucker."
The bullet missed, the assassin having already rushed around the area, trying to circle Samuel. Samuel saw this coming and immediately aimed at the man, only for the assassin to jump into the air, firing off multiple wind projectiles.
"That all you got?" Samuel dodged them with ease, "Your wind attacks aren't faster than my bullets, you're going to have to try harder than that-"
He saw that the assassin had already appeared in front of him, swinging his blade at his throat. Samuel bend over backwards, his hat flying out of his head, and nearly hit the ground trying to avoid the knife.
He then fired a bullet at the man's face, hitting the shield right away. The bullet shattered and created another shockwave. This told Samuel that it would be pointless to keep firing at him since he didn't know the full threshold of the shield.
Samuel stepped to the side, trying to compose himself but the assassin followed up with a kick to the head. Samuel took the hit and staggered back, avoiding another stab. Despite being hit by some of the man's blows, Samuel was avoiding the blade, which was all that mattered to him.
"Guess I have to use that skill. How do I pull it off? Do I just dash at him?" Samuel thought to himself, "This is quite the moment to test it out!"
As the assassin tried to rush him, Samuel immediately dashed towards him, smacking him in the chest.
"Gunslinger's Mark"
The moment the Skill was activated, Samuel's hand had glowed blue. When the smack struck the assassin, taking him by surprise, a glowing mark appeared on his chest. The mark resembled a pulsating cross-hair, which confused the man.
"What?" He said, "This did no damage to the shield."
He turned around to see that Samuel had aimed his gun at him. The moment he did this, the assassin jumped to the side to avoid the bullet, but Samuel had anticipated this and shot where he was jumping. The bullet flew right towards the man was but the moment in came within half a foot of the mark, it immediately curved in and struck him.
The shield protected the assassin, but the blow was able to stagger him back. Samuel fired another shot at him, hitting the mark dead on. The shield was able to stand strong, but the impact of the blow still staggered the man. The moment the second bullet hit the mark, there was a bright pulse of light, signifying that it needed one more for the Critical Damage.
"This...!" the assassin swung his blade at Samuel, firing off a wind projectile at him, "Curses!"
Samuel dodged the attack and aimed the gun at him yet again, firing a single bullet. The bullet flew right at the man, striking the mark. The moment it landed, there was a loud sound cue, like a metallic clank, followed by the sound of shattering glass.
Samuel watched as the blue barrier around the assassin had shattered completely, causing the man to stagger and drop his blade.
"You're wide open." Samuel said as he aimed at the man's chest
He fired the final bullet, shooting him in the chest. The bullet pierced through the man, putting a wide hole through the man. Blood and guts splattered everywhere as the man fell to the ground, letting out a pained howl.
"A-Ahhhhh..." He managed as he coughed repeatedly
Samuel walked over to his hat, picking it up and placing it on his head. He then walked over to the assassin, emptying the chamber of casings. He reached the man, standing right outside the pool of blood that was forming.
"Hm." Samuel said, looking at the man as he gasped for air, "Seems a single proc of Critical Damage was enough to break your shield, leaving you open. No matter how good your shield is, you are not as tough as a demon. You can't handle a single one of my rounds."
The man's mask was still on, "Y-You...." He managed as it was sliding off slowly, "You will die....aaaghh.....Kurv will skin you alive..."
Samuel reloaded his revolver, "Is that so?" he said, "Let him come then, I'll put a bullet between his eyes."
"You.....are a dead man walking." the man said before his body went limp
"Dead man walking?" Samuel holstered his gun, "Hm, I have heard that one before."
As he stood there, the System appeared next to him:
[Task Completed: Defeat Two Mages]
- Rewards: Necklace of The High Noon
A bright white light orb appeared in front of him, a small leather necklace dropping from it into Samuel's hand. There was a circular metal tag on the necklace, which was a plain grey in color with no designs on it.
"Huh...." Samuel said, "Interesting."
"I wonder what that is."
